That moment between tommy and Joel when Joel explains his fear is so good. Pedro pascal has really been crushing it in everything and it’s such a heartfelt moment that shows how much he loves Ellie. Cool Stuff About This Episode (NO SPOILERS): 1. Joel knowing that Ellie's favorite astronaut is Sally Ride shows how close they've become after traveling for three months. 2. All of Joel's panic attacks are related to feeling like he's failing people he's responsible for. The first one is when he's scared Tommy is dead, second one is when he thinks Ellie is about to be killed by the dog, and the third one was when he thought about Sarah. The last one is doubly sad cause he's reminded that if Sarah had lived she'd be an adult who could be a mother herself. Joel could be a grandfather if the world were different. 3. The fight between Joel and Ellie is a pretty interesting conflict. Joel feels he can't continue to travel with her cause he's getting old and terrified that he'll watch her die because he's getting weak. Ellie can't travel with anyone else cause she has terrible abandonment issues, and Joel leaving her would just make her feel even more vulnerable. The flashback Joel has of Sarah after their fight, to me at least, are Joel considering, "If I had the ability to spend one more day with Sarah I would take it. So why am I going to willingly give up spending time with Ellie? Would fear really stop me from from spending one more day with Sarah?" And of course, he has his answer. So the next day he asks Ellie if she wants to stay with him. 4. Joel refuses throughout the episode to teach Ellie things, like how to hunt rabbits or to let Tommy teach her to shoot, and then when he decides to stay with her he immediately teaches her how to shoot. Joel teaching her things is a very "dad" thing to do. 5. When Ellie is asking Joel about what he used to do, he jokingly says, "Yeah, everyone loved contractors", which is a reference to earlier when Ellie asked about the dam and said, "You know you could have just made something up. I would have believed you." 6. Also the brief moment when Ellie leans her head against Joel's back while riding is pretty big considering it's one of the first moments of physical affection they show between the two. 7. At the end of the episode when Ellie is begging Joel to get up and saying she "can't do this without him" is also huge. Throughout the show she constantly goes against what he says, but the second there's a chance she may lose him and his guidance she admits, "I need you to tell me what to do." Which is just a reminder that she's a child and still needs an adult to help her, even if she pushes for independence.
@R0L0s Жыл бұрын
About point 4, i also think joel refused to teach her cus at the start he didnt want to be responsible for her, and then i think he didnt want to imagine a possibility where ellie would be in extreme danger, so by not teaching her he gets to stay in denial about her dying or something. But after he decides to show her how to fend for herself cus he knows he has to accept the reality that this isnt his daughter but still a girl whose alive (and eventually will feel like his own daughter). So i think this epsiode rly opens joel up to what his reality is, and whats worth fighting for

The song at the end that played is a cover of Depeche mode’s “Never Let Me Down Again”. The original song played over the radio at the end of episode one, signalling that 80s means trouble. The song ended up foreshadowing the fact that Bill and Frank were already dead. So for them to bring it back at the end of this episode is quite meaningful. Also, the lyrics fit Bill and Frank’s situation, but this slower version I think is great for Ellie at the end there. “I’m taking a ride with my best friend, I hope he never lets me down again.” I just wanted to point all this out cause I thought it was such a cool detail and shows how much thought went into making this show! Also the university in this episode was actually two different places in real life! It started of at our SAIT school, then switched to MRU (Mount Royal University)! SAIT was especially recognizable my friends that studied there were super happy to see it on tv haha. Anyways, another great reaction!

Pedro Pascal’s delivery of Joel’s monologue about how he’s so scared of failing Ellie (and Sarah) was so powerful. He’s such an amazing actor. He and Bella’s on-screen dynamic is so palpable and I love them. Moments that really showed how Joel feels about her is when he asks Tommy to exclude Maria from a conversation “just for family” and didn’t tell Ellie to go, as well as how quickly Joel said “Of Course I do!” to when Ellie asked if he gave a shit about her. I really love how this show takes the time to show the PTSD and trauma related to suppressed grief. Through Ellie and Joel finding each other, she gets the father figure she always wanted and he gets a second chance at being a father, and they both help each other heal. The story is just so good! ❤

I think that what makes this show so much more emotionally intense then other "zombie" shows is that the focus of the show is just the two main characters. All of the other characters play a purpose but it is all about just the two of them reaching a goal and forming a father daughter bond in a post apocalyptic world... just like Bill and Frank finding love in the world that they are all living in.

No you’re right about the diva cup being a stretch. They began in 2003 and didn’t really kick off until the 2010s. For a commune to have not only found a surplus of diva cups brand new presumably considering the inclusion of pristine instructions, and have enough to be giving them out to every person who’d need one, they’d literally have to have been located near where they were being produced and raided a factory that specifically made diva cups.
@syra1541 Жыл бұрын
right? I was thinking the same, they would be so, so useful but the odds of having a surplus of them on hand, or even just enough for all the women is super unlikely

Something I really like about this episode is most apocalypse shows will have a nice community have a horrible secret, like having them be cannibals. So it’s honestly refreshing to see a nice community with no horrible dark side, showing that humanity has a chance and that it’s possible to live a good life like Bill and Frank. It actually makes things interesting because when people talk about morality, you actually can believe they have a choice to live a better life. Also just wanted to say, you guys feel free to call the infected zombies, I know I call them zombies and plenty of other people do too☺️ Spoilers for the game if you’re planning to play it. I’m just gonna do some scene comparisons. So the show has been able to make things ether just as intense or more intense than the game, but this was the first time they toned it down. Instead of Joel just getting stabbed outside, while still in the building Joel gets jumped on a indoor balcony and falls off, landing on a piece of metal sticking out and impaled right through from the back. Unlike with show Joel who’s had vulnerable moments and shown his soft side more and shown his weaknesses, making him feel human and making it easier to understand him, but game Joel feels like a tank of a man who’s very rough around the edges. So when you see this man in the game who’s went through so much, to see him hurt like this was terrifying. Ellie had to pull him off the piece of metal and be the one to protect you as you limp your way out. It’s kinda the few times you feel completely helpless in the game because despite wanting to help Ellie, you can barely get him to pull out his gun and aim properly. I’m not gonna say the game was better on that scene, but I’ll admit it was more intense, but fortunately the show kept all of the emotional weight and more.

Thanks for the great reaction, guys! I definitely reacted very similarly, feeling that something was going to happen to Tommy, feeling bad for Joel and Ellie, and feeling sad about Sarah. I was really glad that this episode was not quite as emotionally taxing as the last few, though it was still a little rough at times. This Episode: While I'm happy that Joel finally knows that his brother is safe, there are many things that I'm upset with Tommy for, including not contacting his brother, but that did not mean that I wanted Tommy to die. I spent so much of this episode worried that something was going to happen to him, especially once he agreed to take Ellie, because of the pattern that we've seen in the first five episodes so far. So Tommy surviving and staying with his wife, kid, and their community made me really happy for them. But then, we still have way too much time left in the episode, so I'm left imagining anything could happen because they're way too happy with way too much time for things to go wrong, and what do you know, Joel gets stabbed. So I loved it because of Joel and Tommy finally getting to reunite, and for Joel and Ellie finally getting to choose to travel together with the promise of a safe place, but I hated it a little because I was so stressed and worried for the characters the entire episode (which I guess is a good thing because it means I'm connecting with the characters and the show is doing a good job portraying the situations). I also think that song at the end was completely perfect, but it definitely hurt my heart a little bit, and I know that Joel is going to be in the other episodes.

Don't know if you take recommendations, but I think you should consider doing a commentary on Catherine, Called Birdy. Found it wildly entertaining due to its absurdist sarcastic nature. And it has Bella Ramsy in it, they kill it as always. Andrew Scott (famously THE hot priest from fleabag) also performs his ass off. Its weird and it's funny and its abject in places . All things that align with teenage girlhood in medieval Britain.

I (Benji) watched Birdy and really enjoyed it ☺️

Joel can’t be dead. I think they might be doing the thing where you think he’s dead but he’s actually not. But now saying that I’m now thinking maybe that’s what they want everyone to think so then they do the opposite. Idk I’m thinking way to much into it/going down a rabbit hole. 😂 love the videos! You two do an amazing job!

I like how you're both immediately like "Don't let him do it. He's gonna die. He's gonna die." and I couldn't stop laughing cause all I heard is "He's not Pedro Pascal. You are on the posters. Anybody elsr can die, easily! You have to do it!"😅❤😂

❤❤❤ NGL when Rizzo and Benji knew what a diva cup was I became extremely attracted to Rizzo and am BFFs with Benji in my head. Literally the ONLY males I've ever seen that knew what it was 😘😘😘

After you finish this season, it be really cool for you guys to react to some of the gaming scenes compared to the tv series.

Considering how the story goes, I would love for you guys to at least watch TLOU Part ll on your own if not for a video. It would be really cool to see a reaction to what happens with our characters as the story goes beyond the show.

You are only the second reactor males that I've seen know what the Diva Cup is 👏 Props to you. The anxiety of this show! The way you get attached to characters so quickly and they die is so stressful but also a testament to how well written and acted this show is 🤌 I'm always impressed how much movie/pop culture knowledge you guys have combined 💞 Benji shushing the dog and Rizzo thinking he was being shushed was hilarious 😂

I don't know how but they need to have Florence and Marlon return in season 2 even if it's just one episode. They were so freaking hilarious with not even 10 minutes of screen time and they stole the show. I laughed so hard watching Joel and Ellie scarf down the food. You don't realize how feral they are until they get around civilized people 😂

9:54 Maria is at least in her late 40’s so her pregnancy is risk as heck. I don’t blame Tommy for wanting to stay out.
@winterfire1097 Жыл бұрын
when you order Rick and Michonne then get this:7:16 Jokes aside why did they make Tommy look like a less intense Rick Grimes? And while I'm on that kick, Ruitina Wesley aka Tara actually tried out for the role of Michonne on TWD only to end up her pyscho best friend who tried to kill Michonne, Daryl, and all the kids of the community. Also the line about it being *communism* is so cringe. Post apocalyptic communities are usually run by dictators, if you're lucky there are fair leaders, especially ones that will allow you to leave without hunting you down.
