The Last of Us is an upcoming American post-apocalyptic drama television series created by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann for HBO. Based on the 2013 video game of the same name developed by Naughty Dog, the series will follow Joel (Pedro Pascal), a smuggler tasked with escorting the teenage Ellie (Bella Ramsey) across a post-apocalyptic United States. It will feature Gabriel Luna as Joel's younger brother Tommy, Merle Dandridge as resistance leader Marlene, and Anna Torv as Joel's smuggler partner Tess.

As someone who played both games I absolutely love this episode gave me the same adrenaline rush as the game also showed the growing relationship between Joel and Ellie

The jokebook and the porno mag are from the game. They were such good character bonding moments. Love that they included them in the game. All throughout the game Ellie will bring out the joke book as you are traversing the world and it makes you want to stop to hear the next dad joke 😂 I love em. That diarrhea joke leading to Joel and Ellie laughing together was a great finish after all of the setup. The guy who plays Perry, the lieutenant, played Tommy in the games. So great seeing him in the show. He has such a great voice and he looks way different than he did back when he did the games.

It's unfortunately quite timely. The recent police brutality case had the victim also scream for his mother as he was being beaten, so it was extra brutal to hear this in the show. It's realistic and heartbreaking to call out for your mother, and I love that the show is humanizing the antagonists more than the game.

The core of The Last of Us was never about the infected, it's about the journey and the bonds you form with the characters. You'll see them again, but keep in mind that they're not the focal point of this story.

So to answer some stuff without answering too much, yes you could organize well enough to kill all the infected in an area to make living outside a QZ viable, but there's always the risk of them just travelling in. In the game, stray infected are pretty common, but dangerous humans are more common. And yes Henry and Sam are characters straight from the game.

To answer your questions, Henry and Sam are in the game, but it looks like they are taking a little bit of a different approach with them in the show. Kathleen is not a character in the game, so that whole story with her is new. In the game, this happened in Pittsburgh instead of Kansas City, but if Kansas City was a quarantine zone, that would mean that the infected would have been mostly cleared out.

I believe that so long as a can of food isn't swollen, dented, or showing rust on the outside... They are good to eat indefinitely. But ofc, in our modern, pre-apocalyptic world, probably best not to test this lol

They’re there. They just didn’t focus on them this episode. This show is more about the people than the infected. This episode was very much needed for the Joel and Ellie connection. And this episode had more action than the last so I don’t understand that complaint. Just wait until next episode.

The next episode is definitely going to be a longer one and likely with more action so this was more build-up for that, and some much needed fleshing out of J&E’s relationship, both going into the second half of the series and for something that’s going to come into play either next time or episode 6.

It was the shortest ep so far so I felt like it left me wanting more as well but the next ep is out on friday instead of sunday! so dont have to wait as long. This part of the game you are only fighting against hunters, you bounce between fighting infected and humans so it just kind of drives home that other humans are just as much of a threat in this world. Love your reactions! Nice hearing what people who haven't played the game think.

The reason why we didn't see too many infected around the Kansas City QZ is a simple one. All the survivors are moving in and around the QZ. Makes sense that they'd make an effort to clear out as many infected as they could. Expand their boundaries, search for supplies etc

Just because it wasn't shown doesn't mean they don't have a problem with the infected in this city. However, the episode was focusing on character and relationship development between Joel and Ellie and to show the new obstacle they will have to face, which is the new faction. There is really no place to put an infected encounter anywhere in this episode. This seems to be a two part arc, in which they will face the infected and faction in the next episode.

@Fan Pops, 20:06 FEDRA in Boston didn't have an infected problem either, right? They were constantly patrolling their perimeter for trouble on foot and land. Kansas City QZ likely did the same thing--we saw a pile of burnt bodies as Joel drove through the city. This new crew led by Kathleen is a mix of FEDRA and others in the QZ who overthrew the FEDRA. They disagreed with how they were being treated, but not how they were being protected, so they likely kept up with FEDRA's means of dealing with infected. I'd be surprised if this city was crawling with Infected given all the supplies they have on hand. Next episode is this Friday! I can't wait. Oh! The guy with the long white hair and beard following Kathleen is Jeffery Pierce, the video game actor for Tommy =) He sounds exactly the same. EDIT: 22:29 As a video game, it's important to keep the action up while teaching the player how to navigate through areas, so yes gamers come across a lot of runners first and the game slowly slips in more difficult infected characters as your progress. They also slip in other groups of humans like raiders, hunters, etc. And the people were always the worse groups to have after you because they have strategies and coordination. Kathleen isn't from the game. Henry and Sam are. At this episode felt a lot like the game. The bathroom scene at the beginning and them sleeping in the woods wasn't in the game but the rest of it felt very much like the game--the Ambush was pretty spot on, save for the part with Bryan. They really humanized Bryan, and though I do think he feared for his life, he was also trying to stall for his backup to arrive--that doesn't happen in the game. Those ambushing you fight until they can't fight anymore. Henry (older brother) and Sam (younger brother) are on the run in the game and Joel and Ellie come across them. I don't recall how they met--was a long time ago, but I don't think it was like. I think you get in trouble and you meet up that way, but I'll stop there as we should let HBO tell that story. Get ready! This Friday should be a nail biter. 24:33 building have basements. They likely locked all the doors leading to the basement. This particular floor with Kathleen and her armed guard is just the floor above that. I wonder if we're going to see more than one or just one. In the game ONE was enough to scare the $#!+ out of you.

The Fungus needs living human bodies. It can prolong the life of the body but eventually, if there's no new body to spread to, it will die out like the one on the wall in Episode 1. Those people were locked down in the QZ for years. The infected on the outside had nothing to feed on so they died out. Most of them... It looks like some of them found their way underground... maybe some homeless or refugees were down there at the beginning.

Well, we don't need to use logic, the scientific base for the outbreak is mostly fictional (as basically any type of "zombie" or simillar infection outbreak media). You can give any explanation for things in the series without many thought to it cause if we keep digging further in logical explanations eventually it will not be "sustainable".

Underground indeed. Kansas City has 55 million square feet of underground caves for plenty of creatures to simmer for about 20 years before they need to break to the surface. Just my guess.

Funnily enough this is the episode so far that has a lot of things in the game, also like in the game when you are in towns like this that’s been taken over by the hunters and you are fighting them off there is little to no infected. They do exist but there’s that many people there that they clear off most infected so they aren’t in their little area. They wouldn’t all live there and keep stray infected around. It’s like how you don’t see any infected when Joel is in the qz in the first episode. For me I prefer stuff that’s about characters but I notice people tend to love action, I think if you like more action I suggest also playing the game, that has way more action than the show does so far. Sam and Henry are characters in the game but Kathleen isn’t, I think the show is humanising the hunters more and giving them a name and a face and a backstory.

So since this city was already an established quarantine zone before it was overthrown by whatever resistance, probably the area was free of infected for a while (probably bombed or cleared by FEDRA). Other places like the museum in ep 2 are smaller areas/buildings that maybe were easier for FEDRA to seal off/avoid instead of clear and we only see Ellie, Joel and Tess go through because they absolutely need to get past.

In this part of the show in the game, they didn't run into any infected at the time until they met up with Henry & Sam, I don't want to spoil it but they suppose to run into more infected later on when they travel in the tunnels of the sewer, that's if they go by the game because they did skip a lot of parts that were in the game that wasn't in the show.

It was already shown in the second episode that infected people tend to avoid daylight. Furthermore, there are enough people (hunter) in this city to keep them infected-free. It is a QZ The right hand of the leader of the hunter is the voice actor of Tommy in the game. The endcredits song comes from part 2 and is sung by Ashley Johnson (Ellie from the game).

I guess episodes 4 and 5 are meant to be like one big episode( they even have the same director), they just were divided into chapters because of timing. I also got this feeling like it wasn't enough for me, like I'm not that much satisfied as it was with all previous episodes, and I reckon it's because we need the second part, meaning the next episode. There we will know who exactly are these people in the city, what happend there, why there is no fedra and no infected, the story of Henry and Sam. I can't wait for it!

TLOU is a story of love in the middle of the end of the world. Of the end of humanity and how love affects us and what would you do for love. So even tho there's infected there's a lot of ppl you connect with and have to deal with. For me this episode was pure perfection it was just like the game in many aspects, the game has areas where humans are the problem there's little to none infected but there's humans which is as dangerous. Kathleen wasn't on the game this is adding and expanding the story so it makes more sense since the mission on the game is a different one this gives more depth. And this is as much as I can say without spoiling. 😅❤️

I don't know if y'all played the game and not but Henry and Sam are brothers and Henry was a part of a group in the game but he got separated but the TV show is expanding on what happened because the game didn't show that part

10:48 I don't think it was a trap per se. While trade was obviously no longer an option, I think the kid was just panicking and trying to come up with a peaceful solution. The group didn't realise that Joel had a child with him. This might not have phased the older attackers, but considering the last one left looks to be between the ages of 17-21, he might feel more guilt killing another kid. It may have also been his first time as part of an ambush). It's sad to me that in the panic of his dying moments he calls out to his mother, likely feeling fear or remorse.

and also, the group is way too big to let the infection spread, so they managed to leave it only in places they don't usually go to. in the game is the same thing... and YES, when there's a QZ, they keep all the infected outside and don't mind much abt it, but since the group took over the whole city, they keep the infected outside

This show/game IS NOT ABOUT THE INFECTED. It's about the people. That's why The Last of Us stands out amongst all the other 'zombie' works. It's not about them... It's about US. The infected are just a dangerous McGuffin. If you want more zombies, there are about 15 The Walking Dead spinoffs coming out.
