The Last of Us Part II Joel Plays Guitar For Ellie. Joel plays guitar and then gifts the guitar to her in The Last of US 2. I thought this was a really nice scene and a good way to open up the game. This is also captured in 4K.

I love that you can literally see ellies eyes look like they're starting to water overtime as she listens on to Joel's lyrics, she knew it came straight from his heart and that it was his way of describing what she means to him through a song.
@Ivbo
@Ivbo 3 жыл бұрын
You know what’s sad, Ellie doesn’t forgive Joel until the very end of the game, thats when she finally understands why he did what he did, and that she would also do the same for him, not until he’s dead does she truly realize just how much she loved him and that she would have done anything for him, even if it meant dooming the entire world in the process...that’s why she breaks down when letting Abby go, because the whole thing runs much deeper than Abby, the thought that she never got to tell Joel she forgives him, that she loves him...that he never knew, that knowledge is what has its hooks in her throughout the entire game, and she thinks killing Abby is the only way to make it right, not until she has Abby at her mercy does she realize that killing her won’t fix anything.

plus, i sort of interpreted that what drove Ellie was not only the anger of having Joel brutally killed, but also the guilty she felt by not giving him a chance of forgiveness before. She can stand the fact she mistreated him his last two years before he was killed in front of him, and I took her almost everything she had to realise what drove Joel was love

BuT aBbY kIlL jOeL sO eLlIe ShOuLd KiLl HeR! AbBy BaD jOeL gOoD! But no, it's actually much deeper than that and so many people just refuse to look at it under the surface level. @@PayondeAwsome That's Drunkman's explanation for the game. And i understand what you saying. But, Joel wasn't killed for any of those mercenary days wronged people, but for Abby's hate consumed hands. While Ellie's "Father" was killed by Hate, Abby's father was killed by Joel's Love. That's Drunkman's Huge Mistake. Remember Abby's father couldn't answer when he was asked about killing her own daughter to save the world. Trough the whole travel (The Last of Us 2013), Joel didn't saw a world wich worth to be saved. Also, first moments of the first game back then 2013, didn't show a Joel killing for fun or money, but for justice under mercenary codes. Maybe if they had made a game where Abby infiltrate Joels camp, looking for the best moment to kill him, but insted getting to know the man to finally undesrtand why Joels choosed Ellie... but too late for that... There is so much going in this scene, not just the fact that we got to see how Joel finally sang to Ellie, but the awkard "dad" interaction with the joke at first, Ellie listening music in the walkman she had in her backpack and wanted to fix in the first game, the robot Ellie tried to give Henry in the back shelf, her arm with the bandage not hiding the bite but probably because at this point she already burned her arm with the chemical she tells Dina later on and of course the moth on the guitar that it's probably where she got the idea for her tattoo.

No, it wasn't darker. It was foolishly darker like always in entertainment product to feel that like it make any sense. In the second they was so afraid to make you stop liking characters, so they cut almost all brutal scenes in the game. They could show as all the way how Abby killed Joel. But then it would be much harder to make us like her. So they go easy way. They could really show us how Ellie tortured Nora but again they are cowards. They could make truly dark ending where Ellie kills both Lev and Abby(and build sympathy towards them so we could feel pit inside us) and loses everyone on the way of vengeance. But again someone could not like it. Second part is stupid. Not dark. Just useless and stupid.

The first line of the song says so much about Ellie and Joel. Ellie loses herself because of Joel's death, but this reminds us that Joel's ending isn't truly tragic because he never had to go through losing Ellie. We know he would have much preferred to die than to lose Ellie. Joel redeems himself by caring for Ellie in the first game, even if it's selfish. He is, of course, selfish for saving Ellie from the Fireflies and Abby's father: to fill a void created when Sarah died. Though he is a mere shadow in the second game compared to being a protagonist in the first, we see he becomes a better man. We see he saves Abby, a stranger, from all those runners, which contrasts with what he said to Tommy at the beginning of the first game when Sarah was in the car: to keep on driving and leave the family. Unfortunately, it's him being a better man that gets him killed--a harsh reminder that a coldness to everything and everyone around you, just was Bill enacts in every facet of his existence, has some advantages. But in the end, it would have been far worse for Joel to lose himself as a result of Ellie's death than to face Abby's golf club.

It bothered me so much how distant and unenthusiastic Ellie is in this scene compared to the first game. And I know it's because she doesn't fully know if joel was telling the truth about the hospital, or that she feels like her life lost some of it's purpose since the "cure didn't work". I get that, but it killed me watching a lot of the flashbacks cause Joel is more open and loving than he ever was in the first game, and suddenly Ellie isn't at all excited about things she couldn't wait for Joel to show her, and she's so distant. I mean the birthday flashback isn't like that, Ellie is just as curious and excitable as she was in the first game, but most of the other scenes had her being really distant and quiet, as good as those flashbacks still were. I mean Ellie from the first game would've lost her shit if Joel sang to her, and in this, she's just awkward around him and kind of bored almost.

I think its extremely realistic. Thats what makes this game good to me. Its dark and upsetting because it isn’t predictable. Joels actions had consequences. She acted this way for good reason. Sure it sucks, but I think thats why Ellie made the decision she made in the end. Forgiveness. Forgives herself for how she was towards Joel. And actually forgiving Joel and Abby. Ellie from the first game is a child. She has been through so much hell since then.

Fun detail: This is a Pearl Jam song called Future Days that released in 2013, the year the outbreak happens in the game. People think that Joel practiced this for Ellie but I personally think he practiced this for his daughter. His performance doesn't seem rehearsed, more like a song he's revisiting. It adds a whole lot more depth to the song choice here.

It sucks thay because this song came out in 2013 they obviously can't play it in the show

Wow this game really knew how to rip out your heartstrings and play a nice little tune with them. Less an emotional rollercoaster and moreso a perpetually plummeting drop.

I know this is a fictional story and these are fictional characters that don't exist in real life but for some reason it feels like they do, I can't help to feel sad and I can't stop thinking about Ellie and Joel as if they were real people, Joel's death feels like I lost someone close to me and I feel so bad for Ellie because he loved him even though she didn't tell him that at the end..... This is so weird, somebody help!

It was this part that my dad before he passed away brought him into this game and he didn't really play he would watch me play so he could understand the story more and he loved this game I had to show him part 1 but sadly didn't get the chance.

I believe that what Ellie was going to ask Joel when she said "Did" and made a pause before asking about the joke was, Did you ever taught Sarah how to play the guitar? Or something like that.

You know what, that sequel worth it just because of that scene. After TLOU1 coming there was something like closed show where you can't film anything that happens on the stage. And that scene was a part of this show. And honestly, I'm just so happy I can see and hear something that I thought was missed opportunity

Damn all the feelings I have for this game. I beat it last night and it's all I've thought about all day. Literally. I loved the game. The whole game. Even when I thought I was gonna dislike certain parts, I ended up loving them once it was all over with. It was a no holds barred experience and honestly I wouldn't change anything about it. Except that it left me just feeling down afterwards. But I guess Naughty Dog achieved what they set out to do.

I know there's alot of people unhappy with the plot.. Im not all for it myself.. But man did they capture the emotion and tension.. Just Joel playing this song for ellie.. Sort of telling her how much she means to him in what he cant put in to words was so emotional.. And ellie sort of brings that on in her songs in her journal

This is actually one of the most emotional scenes in the game. It’s just so downplayed because it’s at the beginning. If only Joel had come clean right away and acknowledged what he did at the hospital... I think that Ellie would have forgiven him much sooner. To me, her face at 6:18 says it all. 5:33 6:17
