Jakarta is so big, and connected to 4 cities around it, no borderwall, no gap, you can only see the border from map. You walk on some street in Jakarta and won't realize you already in another city. The reason people keep telling you they're not zombies is because there seems to be confusion over reanimations etc. They don't need to be shot in the head, they can't reanimate the dead. They're just people that turn to monsters, and the majority die off in a short period of time.
@Elessar0wind Жыл бұрын
That's actually pretty close to what an actual zombie use to be considered. Someone who was brain dead and at the beck and call of someone else.

@@mattb7479 I was talking about before all these undead movies. Like in voodoo stuff. Minus the magical myth stuff, there are real accounts of people who were allegedly raised from the dead to do someone else's bidding. But they weren't really dead, just brain dead. @@Elessar0windI think there was a movie about this. The name escapes me right now. It was about a doctor trying to find the drug used to make zombies so that it could be used as medication. The actress who plays Marlene was her voice actress in the game. Tess was played by Annie Wersching. The voice actress of Ellie (Ashley Johnson) and the voice Actor of Joel (Troy Baker) in the games are in the series as different characters. They were going to do a movie few years back but fell apart due to Neil wanting to be faithful to the game and Hollywood wanted to do it their way. In a podcast Neil said Tess had a husband and son. During the outbreak they got infected, Tess killed her husband but couldn't kill her son and locked him in the basement. Shows how she ended up taking a liking to Ellie for her brief time
@thedarkknight2221 Жыл бұрын
The show runners said that there were scenes with Tess that were cut that showed that Tess had a husband and a son and that both were infected. She was forced to kill her husband but she couldn’t do the same to her son so she locked him up in the basement, were presumably he turned into a clicker. Also, even though I played the game and knew how it would go down I was somehow even MORE terrified in the museum scene than when I played the game! The fact that Neil Druckman himself directed this episode makes it even more perfect. And from the cold open showing how cordyceps originated in Jakarta it proves the Bread Theory was right. Which makes rewatching the pilot even MORE tense because you see how lucky Joel, Tommy and Sarah were that they didn’t get infected from eating any flour based foods. As for Tess’ ending, I think it was actually done better than the game. The scene of the mycelium (the fungal threads) going into her mouth was incredibly disgusting but the look in her eye when it happened showed that even though she was about to turn into one of them she managed used that iron will of hers to force herself through those last seconds before turning to burn them all. Stand and applaud for Anna Torv everyone!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Fun Fact: So Neil Druckman and Craig Mazin did more research on fungus and found out that if spores were as much of a threat as they are in the game that humanity would be completely wiped out. So they changed it to another scary fact about fungus which is that there are some species that grow so big that they can cover entire acres of rainforest in Brazil. So they added that instead of spores.

The entire point of this episodes opening, as well as last episodes opening, on top of how Tess' death went down at the end, is to make it clear that this is not zombies or zombie like tropes. If you wanna be real technical, zombies originally referred to raising the dead or transferring someone's sole into another body using Voodoo magic. Since then the term has expanded to refer to many different types of “walking dead,” including versions that have nothing to do with Voodoo. I think it's perfectly fine to refer to The Last of Us as a zombie game or a zombie show. If anyone disagrees, I'll also say Child's Play is more of a zombie movie than anything George Romero made. It's one or the other. Either it's all zombie movies, or zombies only refers to risen dead from Voodoo.

So we saw the newly infected in the first episode. Those were called Runners. In this episode, the hundreds that came running into the State House are Stalkers. They are half way between Runners and Clickers. The ones after the Clickers, that have been alive for 20 years, are going to be Bloaters. They extremely hard to kill because their fungus skin is like armor. Takes a very large caliber gun or grenade. Not sure we will see what's after the Bloaters in this season. After Bloaters there are the Shamblers and finally the Rat King Stalker.

Fun fact: humans are capable of a limited echo location. I’m sure it takes lots of practice. Probably no where near as good as these clickers. So I’m wondering how long it took for them to learn how to do it. Or did the fungus learn it once and pass on the knowledge when they’re connected.

They're not zombies. The creator of the game wanted that to be made very clear. A zombie is someone that dies and comes back from the dead. These infected in The Last of Us are people that got infected with a fungus that takes over their body and they can't control what they're doing, so they're still alive. Overtime the longer they last, it evolves and it gets worse and more advanced. That's why the infected change/evolve the longer they live.

The difference between the infected and zombies is an important distinction. Zombies are mindless dead bodies that are reanimated and can do things after death. The infected are hosts to a parasite that has taken over their bodies and uses them to procreate. The host is still alive but cannot control their bodies but are still aware up until a certain point in the trajectory of the infection. They are aware of what their body is doing but cannot control themselves. You can hear some of the newly infected making crying sounds before their humanity completely drains away. It's a far worse fate than zombies and doesn't have any of the supernatural beyond death features of the walking dead or traditional zombies. When the infected are killed they are permanently dead, they don't reanimate.
@izumolee6714 Жыл бұрын
Actually the infected aren't considered 'zombies' cause technically the infected are just really sick people. If you remember from the 1st episode with the professor explaining the fungi keeps the host alive cause if it is dead its of no use to them anymore. Even in the game the infected are often seen in the corner sobbing in a way, there is still some essence of humanity in these people but since the fungi is the 'puppeteer' they have no control over their actions. Zombies on the other hand are just reanimated mindless beings.

I think people are on the right track with the flour but something doesn't add up, they missed another clue in the opening episode which I'll get to This is not fact but speculation so please go easy on me : Flour in the U.S is a commodity they have an abundance of and it can be sourced locally easily without the need to import from a country on the other side of the world so the imported flour theory seems flimsy. What I do remember from my time in Indonesia was how massive and busy Jakarta Airport is, its one of the most important hubs in the world with flights to nearly every destination you can think of. The clue that stuck in my head that maybe most people dismissed because of how spectacular it was why were planes crashing? Don't forget this was 2003 post 9/11. There would have been no way even if an infected person was on the plane that the cockpit door would have been breached, if airports were instructing them that they couldn't land or had already been overrun then the pilots would have attempted an emergency landing somewhere a little bit safer than falling to earth like a lawn dart in the middle of a downtown area. The ONLY thing getting through a cockpit door in those days would be airline food. If multiple flights left Jakarta with locally sourced and mass produced food that gets sold to multiple airlines containing the fungus then that's potentially everyone on the flight infected including the pilots. We also only know how quickly BITES take to completely infect you, we have no idea how long the original strain took to infect a human but it's plausible to assume it would take longer as it's only just made the evolutional jump to humans and is adapting to it's new host, infections get stronger the more time goes on so when it evolves enough to spread by a bite the process is even faster as it uses a human to create more potent spores. It just makes more sense to me Indonesian flour imports
