2:20 - Hey Bells and Alicia. It is true that they are used as trailmarkers. They're known as cairns. They are also made as memorials to honor the dead (in this case, Joel did it for Tess).

The 80s song in the first episode is Depeche Mode - Never Let Me Down Again. Listen to it in the context of Bill and Frank. "I'm taking a ride with my best friend I hope he never lets me down again He knows where he's taking me Taking me where I want to be I'm taking a ride with my best friend"

The whole episode was so well done. The only issue I had was the super-prepper Bill's plan for repelling raiders being taking potshots with a rifle while fully exposed on an illuminated open street. Can't even tell me that guy wouldn't have a network of pillboxes with overlapping fields of fire all set up.

The fires around the fence would have rendered him almost invisible to the raiders. Have you ever tried looking out of a window in a room, with its light on, at night? Or stood next to a campfire at night and tried to see beyond the camp fires light? Exact same principle. He had an improved vantage to take shots and the raiders would have been unable to see him due to them being next to the fires.

Me too, guys. Me fucking, too.. I've seen a lot of great tv in my life and this is definitely one of the best episodes of anything ever. I love this show so far and I am confident the rest will be great, but this episode stands out just so much. Thanks for crying with me.

The episode is about the main theme of The Last of Us. Surviving vs Living. Bill taught Frank how to survive, and Frank taught Bill how to live.s That argument in the street is where the game Bill and the show Bill's timeline diverge. In the game Bill says absolutely not, Frank starts resenting him because he’s an extrovert. Eventually Frank leaves, gets bitten, hangs himself to not turn. And leaves an angry letter to Bill, to which Bill swallows his tears and feelings and goes, “Well then fuck you too”. Bill will die bitter and angry having never lived at all. In the show Bill compromised a bit, and let Frank love him how he wanted to love him. Let him make a friend, Tess and Joel. Spruce up the neighborhood. Frank in turn compromised and settled for just that. It’s still an apocalypse, he can’t invite too many people or do too much. So they both died satisfied, in each other’s arms, after a full life. In either case their plot purpose is to teach Joel that surviving isn’t enough. In the game Bill shows Joel how bad and purposeless his life can be if he doesn’t open up. In the show Bill shows Joel how good it can be if he opens up. Bill lets the "danger" song play so that Joel and Tess would come, and get all the weapons and things they needed to have a happy ending like he did. If you read the rest of the letter Bill tells Joel which wine to use in order for Joel to woo Tess and start doing more than just surviving. But it's too late for Tess. Joel reads the letter and realizes that Frank died happy. And Tess died never having that chance. He looks at the key in his hand, and he could part ways with Ellie, but now Tess told him to save who he could save. Bill told him to protect others are what they're for. And he decides to open up a bit, the first time since the time stuck on his broken watch. Both Bill and Franks from the game and show are sides of the same coin. The bad ending. And the good ending.

This was the episode that that broke me. Two middle aged men growing old, finding purpose again in a world so divided and ill-advised on tearing itself apart and actually being able to die in peace as everything crumbles around them. A tsunami of tears left me by then.

It’s so funny that you said “the ice storm a couple of years ago” and didn’t realize that a lot of east coasters have generators, and I instantly thought “oh hey, fellow Oregonians!” It’s my first time stumbling across your channel but I loved the reaction. Cheers!

the best or worst part depending on how you look at it is that the same sex marriage legislation wasn't passed when the outbreak happened, and these two men were alive when the aids epidemic was blamed essentially on the homosexuals. So they never knew that they would ever get married let alone have a relationship or even get old after the world came apart.

I am, as I'm writing this, 10 miles west of Boston. I am in Milford MA and there is not only a forest there is a river. It's called the Charles River. Where ever you are in Massachusetts there is forest and then there are towns and then there is more forest. Where the Cumberland Farms is, isn't accurate however the rest is.

It took me three rewatches to realis3 that bill was drawing fire away from the house. As in being out in the open was the only e ay he could be positive frank would not catch a story bullet. If he shot from the house they would open fire on it. If he fired somewhere hidden ad from cover they might shoot the house just assuming that's where he was. He made himself the target on purpose. Rave bastard
