Upon leaving Bill’s (Nick Offerman) home, in both the game and series, Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) hit the road for Wyoming with hopes of finding Joel’s brother Tommy. In the source material, their trip is soon derailed in Pittsburgh, where they’re ambushed by Hunters and their truck is totaled. In the show, however, they journey nearly another thousand miles west - before things go south - to Kansas City.

I always forget Ellie is 14!! Killing people can’t be easy especially her first or second time! She grew up in this world and it’s so dark she still tries to find humor and sarcasm through everything it’s admirable. Other kids who grow up differently might just be animalistic killers trained for it.

Yeah a lot of people (I don’t mean you) assume that Joel doesn’t want Ellie to have a gun because he doesn’t trust her or thinks that she can’t handle herself, but you can see here that even if he doesn’t act like that he wants to protect her innocence as much as he can. It genuinely upsets him that a kid would have to do something like that. Even though Joel acts like he’s desensitised to this stuff, the fact Ellie had to do that really shook him up. Plus right after they crashed that car Joel was frantically making sure Ellie was okay… I wonder if it reminds Joel of Sarah when they crashed and she hurt her ankle which led up to her being killed

I actually love that Mazin and Druckmann sort-of put down their marker in this episode with the Bryan scene. It's like they were saying -- *unmistakably* -- "Hey guys... this isn't a video game, where you kill 200 people without even thinking about it, and then put in a different game and kill a bunch more. Because that's not how killing people works."

Yes! I see people complaining ther isn’t enough fighting scenes but it isn’t a game. You don’t shoot everyone you see in real life. And if they did it like the game, like if they were killing so many people, it the last episode wouldn’t be as violent.

"I can't even see the CG" -- VFX artist here that follows all the VFX social media stuff - they've posted some breakdowns of The Last of Us visual effects. What they did for a lot of these shots is filmed with real views of the actual cities & roads, and then tracked CG destruction/decay on top of that. So the reason it looks so good is that a lot of it is *partially* real. Pretty clever!

As soon as I saw her pull out *THE* joke book I actually threw my fists sky high. And I’m so glad that they added the diarrhea joke because I was afraid they would *run* out of ideas. But seriously, this show is so insanely faithful to the game that it doesn’t feel like a show but almost like and expansion pass/extended cut of the game. Even though I do miss the scene of Joel teaching Ellie how to use a rifle and then saying “No matter what happens, you make every show count” I still love him teaching her how to use the pistol because a) it shows the bond between these two growing and b) it tells the audience that Ellie had some training from FEDRA so her learning quickly feels natural. And now we are getting to see the more human side of the people who were trying to kill Joel and Ellie in Kansas City (instead of Pittsburgh like in the game). Neil Druckman and Craig Mazin said their inspiration came from how throughout history there have been cases where the revolution that usurps a repressive regime becomes just as bad if not worse than the previous regime. Also loved that we got to see Jeffery Pierce (aka Tommy from the games) finally show up in the show!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Btw, knowing from experience as someone with a spinal cord disability (spina bifida), its not even the not being able to walk that would make his survival hard. They can find a wheelchair. Its the inability to manage his now damaged bladder and bowel control. He may need to catheterize to urinate, and where is he gonna get catheters? In addition, even if he finds some at a hospital, reusing will lead to bladder and kidney infection. Then he will die from that.

Infected thrive better in damp, dark, humid places with less sunlight just like fungi. That is why you didn't encounter them much in the daylight in the game if I can remember right. They don't live long either if they have no host to spread the fungi too and just wither and die off. So them running around underground in sewers and stuff would make sense.

That part where they drove past the train bridge. That is Lethbridge, Alberta. I live there. The bridge is actually fully intact and used every single day. It's the longest and tallest bridge of it's kind in the world. I pass it every day too and from work and now I will never be able to look at it the same way again.

the first reactorts that have 100% understood what the writers wanted you to feel in that scene with Bryan. There's no glory, there's no heroics, thes no justice or "good guys winning", its just cold, brutal savage kill or be killed. It shows the difference between a protagonist and a hero, Joel is our protagonist....

It's tactically better to sleep outside to detect intruders easier. Besides, there are also a lot of supplies in the back seat of the truck, they were surrounding Ellie. The front seat(s) may not recline far enough to sleep comfortably. Joel didn't sleep at all previous night anyway, which is why after that fight and climbing a thousand floors up lol, caused him to sleep so soundly, and not hear the glass crunching.

One of my favorite scenes in the game came true. I love Ellies humor in the magazine scene and with her joke book. 6:43 Same here. I hate the sound of a fork or spoon against a tooth. Even if I accidentally hit my teeth with a fork. Terrible noise!

The last episode had more to do with Joel's character than many realize. Even if you haven't seen him. Bill and Joel are both bitter and alone. However, the development of Bill clearly showed the differences, as one of them was willing to let a person into his life. As a result, despite the almost similar mindsets at the beginning, Bill got a long full and happy life. Joel, on the other hand, is stuck. So yes, the episode was important and not just because of the farewell letter at the end. It showed that there is hope, even if Joel doesn't have one yet. This episode showed that people are important to be happy. We are usually herd animals. Kathleen's bearded right-hand is Tommy's voice actor in the game. As I understand it, Henry is responsible for Kathleen's brother death by betrayal. I guess he betrayed them because Fedra threatened Sam. I think Kathleen's brother was the leader of the resistance movement and she was probably the mom of the troops. That's the only reason I can imagine why the group follows her at all, so insecure and focused on revenge she seems. The bottom line is that she has absolutely understandable reasons. Just as good reasons as anyone else on the show and Joel wouldn't do anything else. Shows again that no group is good or bad. Tess, Joel and Tommy also attacked people. I'm sure if Tess had been killed in such a robbery, it wouldn't have gone down well with Tommy and Joel. But nobody would have said "well you started it you bad bad people". 😉 No, here the whole thing is also talked about as mercy kill what Joel has done. It had nothing to do with mercy. And Joel didn't regret it either. He only felt sorry for Ellie. The guy was there and he had to die. No witnesses. And he was still a teenager. Joel's poor hearing has been shown throughout the episode. He always sleeps on the right side and Ellie often had to repeat when she called Joel. Of course, Joel didn't hear how the two sneak up at the end, because he turned in his sleep and lay in his good ear. The only criticism so far is really the lack of brutality shown by Joel, because that is very important. Firstly, Joel was brutal and ruthless and secondly it's important in the second season. I think it is a mistake not to show this in all its brutality. The show still has to improve and I hope it will be later. It just has to. Btw... I still believe that Ellie pocketed the two grenades that fell at her feet when Tess had her heroic death. I think the bloater will get to eat them. Btw. You don't sleep in the car so you can hear when someone comes and is able to act.

I don't get why people are so mad about them being called Zombies.... That's what they are. There are different kinds of Zombies different Zombie mythologies. Just like with all creatures. "Infected" is what's happened to them, Zombie is what they are. Whether it's a Virus, Fungi, Curse, etc, they're Zombies. When the Fungus takes over the body it kills the person turning them into a host body being controlled by the fungus, it's the fungus that's alive not the person. When we call Zombies the Undead it's because they're bodies are still animated being controlled by some other force. In this show that force is the Fungi. They're not drinking blood like Vampires or shapeshifting like Werewolves... They are Undead humans eating other humans and turning others into what they are... What does that? Oh right a Zombie lol. I agree this show is better than the Walking Dead. The writing is more interesting, and the characters are great. Plus, Pedro Pascal need I say more... :) I know the WD has a huge following so not throwing hate, but I just feel like that show gets carried away with itself.

My take is that I couldn't care less about the side story of that woman. They could've shown more of Henry and Sam but they showed that ridiculous backstory. Also wish we could've seen more of Ellie and Joel bonding and we've barely seen any infected. I loved episode 3, but the other ones are kinda lacking.

Episode 3 did nothing to move the story and completely abandoned the games story which bills town was amazing so to me this episode was pointless. Ellie and Joel could of found a house with guns and a car and it still achieved the same effect. Nothing to do with the gayness but frank was dead and hated bill so this should of been for a different show.

If you want it to be just like the game, go play the damn game. As a matter of fact, it DID move the story along. It served to push Joel's arc forward, both in the show and the game. - In the game, Bill was the type of person Joel would become if he continued to *shut people out*. - In the show, Bill and Frank's story serves to show Joel what can happen if he *lets people in*. *"I used to hate the world and I was happy when everyone died, but I was wrong because there was one person worth saving and that's what I did. I saved him and I protected him. That's why men like me and you are here. We have a job to do. And God help any motherfuckers who stand in our way. I leave you all of my weapons and equipment. Use them to keep Tess [Ellie] safe..."* Adaptations are ADAPTED from one medium to another and must ADAPT to the change in medium. Book adaptations and the source material are nearly ALWAYS different. Many things are changed, cut, or altered. For better or worse. Speaking of, Neil said himself at the start of Ep. 3's Inside The Episode: "My philosophy on this show has always been 'when should we deviate and when should we come back'? If it's kinda the same or worse, we stay where the game is. **If it's better, we deviate.**" Anyway, it's not gonna be the only major deviation. Just sit back and enjoy the ride.

We already got a gay love story coming in Ellie’s story, no need to take a character who in the game said he can’t stand living another day with bill in his note. So this episode was more about identify politics and romanticizing suicidal which I don’t think that is something to make light of. More importantly for those who love the game one of the highlights was bill and Ellie bitching at one another the whole time, if they wanted to add a gay love story then fine but keep bill alive and have the 3 of them go through the epic mission through the hordes of runners and the school bloater to get it. The starting the car scene would of been great on the show but nope we get a controversial episode that did nothing. This could of been another show and had this story and wouldn’t of changed a thing

No, of course not. Fireflies glow in the dark. The dark is the FEDRA regime. The Fireflies see themselves as the light that pushes out the dark.
