Lots of people in the show have had bad things happen, but they still have some humanity, empathy etc. Kathleen has 0 empathy and only cares about herself. That’s a character flaw that is deep and usually not something you can change. There is no cure for narcissism. Dozens of her men are being murdered and her only priority is to get what she wants. She’s manipulative etc. it’s easy to imagine those qualities toned down in a Karen that become much darker in a disaster situation. She lies easily, even to her own people. She was thrust into this position because of her brothers death; and she’s using it for her own personal benefit. It’s a Karen to the extreme. I don’t think you need to see who she was before. You see the sociopathy in her character. That’s not something that just happens to you. I didn’t like her as a villain or that actress in the role at the beginning, but after watching ep 4 and 5 several times, I now find her fascinating and such an interesting choice as a villain. A narcissist Karen thrown into a leadership position during an apocalypse. I think it’s really good.

PHILOSOPHICAL IN-UNIVERSE QUESTION: Since infected are still alive and remain living, do you think the child clicker will continue to grow physically into adulthood? 🤔
@josiahgraham5634 Жыл бұрын
I love your question. TL; DR “No.” Reasoning: We hear that the fungal infection prevents entropy in the first episode, so while it’s true that they remain living, it’s my belief that the fungal infection gives its host just enough nutrients to survive but not to thrive. A child that’s infected likely doesn’t receive enough nutrients to develop and mature, and since they cannot die, they would likely just stay in a childlike form forever until killed. The fungal infection could mutate (like what happens to clickers and bloaters) but the child’s frame might not. My reasoning for this again is based on how much nutrients the infection is stealing from its host, it looks like most of it, so I highly doubt that hormonal changes would kick in causing the child clicker go to from the prepubescent to adolescent stage of life.

I think that this is one of the things that they changed a bit in the series, but still it will probably be an improvement. Joel and Tess DID a lot of horrible stuff to survive in the first 10-15 years of the apocalypse, but by the way they talk about it it seems like in the meantime they found ways of surviving that surely included some immoral shit but not something like luring innocent people by faking an injury and then killing them and looting their stuff. When Joel didn't respond to Ellie's question "did you kill innocent people?" Pedro Pascal's face was full of remorse imo, and a very short sequence of tommy talking to Joel in ep6 trailer has tommy talking about how they DID horrible stuff. Sooooo all things considered I think they made a Joel that already has started to question himself a bit, but still shushing down that part of him, and I see this an improvement in the story because (PART 2 SPOILERS) it sets up a better """""redemption-arc""""" for his character, adding to the cognitive dissonance he feels for loving Ellie as a daughter more and more but having to keep the secret of what happened to the firelights (i am bad at english man i dunno how to say it but having to keep an hurtful secret to a person you love during the first time in years in wich you are trying to be a better person creates a fucking dissonance in your brain that is literally physically hurtful trust me i know for experience) AND justifies his trusting of an unknown group of people that will ultimately bash his head. It also adds a bit to the realism of a broken but still kinda brutal man that open his hearts not only to a father-daughter relationship with Ellie, but also to the one he had once: opening to ellie forces him to confront with his emotions about Sarah's death, and work on ourselves like that takes a toll that a person that hasn't already started to question his behaviour can't possibly take

It's a different medium. The video game's gameplay elements require you to explore and do things to advance the story in which it mostly plays out through brute violence. Being this is a condensed adaptation of a much longer adventure, they are forced to make alterations with Joel but at the same time not make him seem so one note. Joel is not necessarily ruthless but will do whatever it takes to survive. In the game Joel could have easily shot Henry for abandoning him and Ellie but he understood Henry was just trying to protect Sam. The humanizing elements to Joel's character in the game are somewhat understated but they are there. The hints toward the deeds that are talked about but not shown are probably for the best because it would change the entire perception of how the audience views Joel as a person.

If the hardcore gamers were receptive to emotions, they wouldn't spend so much time playing video games.

If Hardcore gamers WEREN'T receptive to emotions, this show wouldn't exist because the games wouldn't have been nearly as popular.

Yeah, the game will always be better. I guess this is pretty good for those who will never get into video games.
