So he turned around so he couldn’t see her and he knew he with his deafness he wouldn’t hear her. And kids are much smarter than you think

Also the HOPE of her BLOOD working to heal (her purpose on why she's going to firefly to make vaccines)... She truly HOPED with all her being that she fell Asleep while waiting. She truly believed it would work that she let her guard down to sleep next to a possible infected.

The Big one is called a Bloater. They're infected that have lasted multiple years (Clickers are only a year or so old). They're very rare because of that, but they're also incredibly hard to kill because the fungus covers their entire body, acting as organic armour.

If, for some reason, someone wasn't sold on Bella Ramsey's performance as Ellie before, this episode should make those doubts go away. The last moments with Sam and Joel and Ellie burying the bodies were absolutely heartwrenching and relied on Bella's performance heavily, and she absolutely delivered.

This episode was the worst for me. It hit me in my gut. My roommate found be sobbing and I told her I don't know why I am watching this series. It just breaks me. This one hitter harder than the rest for me. I think it's being an older sibling to 8 year old's and knowing I could also not have lived with what I did.

It adds a bit if you remember that Henry said that he had never shot and killed anyone before so that was not only his first time killing someone which is traumatic enough but it was a child and his brother/son.

This is easily the best episode of the season for me so far (imo). There's a slight change in dynamic and character with Henry and Sam from the game and I think it works a lot better! I'd even say I prefer this to the game, they somehow made their deaths more agonizing. But to answer questions/ give fun facts! 17:26 That right there is what is called a "Bloater" and is the 4th stage of infected! to go through the stages quickly: Stage 1: Runners - These are newly infected who still have some sense of consciousness which is why in the game you can hear them cry and scream because they can no longer control themselves. This stage lasts about 2 weeks. Stage 2: Stalkers - This stage occurs between 2 weeks to a year after being infected and their consciousness is almost fully lost, however they still cry. Stage 3: Clickers - It takes roughly a year to reach this stage and by now whatever was left of their humanity is gone. Stage 4: Bloaters - It takes anywhere from 10 - 15 years to reach this stage of infected but it should be noted that not all infected eventually reach this stage, most die off naturally several years after reaching the "Clicker" stage. This is why Bloaters are considered "rare" but they aren't the rarest! That title belongs to Stage 5! But that's a bit of a spoiler for Season 2 so I won't go into that. The way Perry dies (getting his head torn off) is known as the "Bloater treatment" among fans. Basically if you get too close to a Bloater it's an insta-death, as the Bloater grabs you and rips your head apart. (One hand on the lower jaw the other grabbing the eye sockets.)

Aren't Shamblers different to Bloaters? Shamblers only form in high moisture areas and they're a bit bigger I think? Similar looking though. Also, I'd argue that the implied Stage 5 isn't so much an extra stage but the result of really specific and fairly unique conditions.

This one physically affected me. Sam completely crawled into my heart. And I believe especially Ellie and even Joel's too as well. I cannot imagine how much Sam was toiling after he realized he was infected. How even though everyone was relieved to be safe, he knew. The agony he must have felt. For him to ask Ellie about being scared and also being a monster inside. How much thoughts must have raced through his mind thinking of who he will become. For Henry, I can deeply resonate with him. I could understand all his decisions. And Henry was in shock. Absolute shock. From when he saw Sam turned, to when he shot at Joel, then when he killed Sam. It was like he shot AN INFECTED, then realized he realized he killed his brother. I am 27 years old with 8 year old twin brother and this episode killed me. I couldn't stop sobbing. My heart broke for everyone Sam, Henry, Ellie and Joel.

To be fair to Kathleen, from her perspective and that of all the rebels, Henry put the life of one already sick child above the leader trying to free them all from the tyranny of 20 years of being raped, beaten, and murdered by FEDRA so to her, yeah, Sam's life was probably not equal to the weight of Michael's. Michael was her Henry, after all, and she had decades longer to love and depend on her brother. And Henry himself said Michael was a great man, one who wouldn't have let the rebels turn into what they did under Kathleen. He'd have been able to govern fairly, loved rather than feared, most likely. Henry saving Sam was at the cost of...pretty much everyone. Is saving his life worth that cost? No real answer there. Everything is grey area.

I knew what was coming the whole time and I still wasn't prepared; it felt just as big of a gut-punch as the first time I played the game, not knowing what would happen until it was hitting me in the face. It was one of those put the controller down and take a break to process moments and they translated it to the screen so well. A small fun fact: the bloater (big infected) ripping Perry's head off is an exact recreation of the death animation in the game if he gets close enough to grab you. And someone's probably already mentioned it, but Perry was played by the actor who voiced and did the motion capture for Tommy in the games. Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson, who did the voice acting and motion capture for Joel and Ellie in the games, will be playing characters in later episodes, as well.
