Valve's refund policy is fairly generous. 2 hours of solid gameplay is enough time to make a verdict on whether you want to keep a game or not, but when it can take half of that time sitting and waiting for the game to finish loading and the other half is spent probably messing around with settings to get it into a playable experience for your rig...yeah.

Really good review. I was one of the lucky ones who haven't had any issues, but I really hope it's fixed for everyone else soon. This is a massively popular game, and all of the negative reviews are almost exclusively because of performance issues. The game, it's story and its mechanics is still really really good. The port is by the time of writing really poor. My best advice would be to wait a little. The game and the remake is worth the cost, but only when it works.

I have a laptop rtx 3070 140W with i7 11th gen and 32 GB RAM. I am getting almost 60 fps at 1440p DLSS Quality with high settings (high for all the textures too! I am going over the 8GB VRAM limit) But still, there are barely any issues on my system. I DIDN'T SKIP THE SHADER COMPILATION. It took almost 45 mins for me. People have really lost it. They are trying to hit ultra with 3060 at 1440 which is not possible. The specs have clearly mentioned the demands too. It's hard to believe how stupid this thing has become.

There have on day 3 been 2 updates that have definitely helped with a lot of the issues. On release day I was running it on medium and low settings while streaming it on OBs and only just hitting 60fps. Now I am running it at 80-100fps with all my settings on High, using a Ryzen 7 5800X, 3060ti and 32GB RAM It's been updated enough to a point where most people aren't having issues anymore and it's back to its breath-taking glory

I've broke my rule of wait 6 months or more before buying a game...Cyberpunk. I've learned my lesson. We just live in a reality where buying any software it is a good idea to wait until they get the bugs worked out. And this comes from a 15 year software designer. My experience makes me a little more understanding with developers but there comes a point when it is just ridiculous.

While their are instances were I do hold the devs accountable, I have a hard time believing they like the state of the projects they work on (when they release) often the suits have a deadline and they have zero choice in the matter. Smaller studios obviously have a lot more wiggle room, but the mega studios have dates and deadlines. Those need to go out the window. It needs to be AS LONG as it takes to get the project SOLID.

Unless Naughty Dog take it back in-house and fix it themselves, it won't get fixed. Iron Galaxy did this port, and they are contracted. Their contract will be to add limited post release support just like every other game they port, and every other game they port follows the same pattern of around 4 updates that claim to fix things, people complaining that the update changes nothing, subsequent updates get less and less features, and then they just stop. This is because the contract has ended and they are working on their next game. Virtuos are the same sort of company and I think the Outer Worlds recent release will not get fixed. They also did Horizon Zero Dawn which was a mess on PC and Guerilla Games had to take it back in-house to fix it. Iron Galaxy did Unchartered collection on PC... 4 updates, all progressively got smaller and support just stopped. It still has problems which could be fixed with another update, buuuuuut their contract finished so that update never came! They did the PC port of Batman: Arkham Knight which we all know was horrific on release, and Rocksteady had to assign a team to work with Iron Galaxy to fix it. There's a pattern here... EDIT: Aaaaaaaaaannnnddd... Naughty Dog have assigned a team to work with Iron Galaxy to fix the game. There it is.

accurate review. A tip for some people. The lighting is what makes the game look up to date as far as graphics. So, for lower end systems you can turn the lighting up while keeping the other options down and the games looks great and runs smooth. And wait 20 minutes for those shaders of course. I have ryzen 5- 6 cores and nvidia GTX 1650 4GRAM, 32 Gb ram and this game eats every resource.

I had to wait an hour and half for the shaders to compile, but once I finished, my 3090 ran it 70-90 FPS 1440p, though I did reach areas of stuttering but not often. I am not having the same issues I am seeing people complain about. Load times are an issue though

5950x + rtx 3090 + 64 gb ram running at 1440p, I turned off motion blur and max out the FOV and all the other settings, and I get around 70-110 fps, sometimes hitting around 120 fps. So I capped my fps to 120. It only crashed on me once so far. The loading time is painfully long (I stored the game on a 1 tb 980 pro ssd), especially the first time.

I’ve been waiting years for this to come out on PC so I’m still playing it. A little stutters here and there but really not that bad. No crashes or anything but I just messed with all the settings till it got the best I could do.

Compiling shaders is key. Problem is that it can take 15min to an hour to compile them, depending on GPU. Then, loading or creating a save file on first launch always takes at least 10 min. Otherwise, I've had no issues except for some occasional stutter. One time it got the audio out of sync during a cutscene.

I have no problem waiting an hour, even 2 for shader compilation. The problem comes up when the shader complication forces me to hard restart my computer after it runs for about 10 minutes. At least it saves it’s progress. Then after it’s all compiled, I try to start a game up, but it freezes in the loading screen. So, I can’t even tell if it runs well in game because I can’t GET IN GAME. Btw, Ryzen 7 3800X, 3080, 16GB RAM. Yeah, ik my cpu is a little outdated, and 16GB RAM is starting to struggle, but come on… this is unacceptable when I’m able to run the likes of cyberpunk and RDR2.

Shader compilation is done by the CPU.

@@Peh84 you are incorrect. It's primarily done by the GPU, with help from the CPU. You will see your GPY usage shoot to 90 to 100 % and CPU usage will be higher than idle, but a lot lower. It's equivalent to running a game. The CPU has to process the sahder information generated by the GPU. The key bit of info here is that *CPUs do not have shader cores* and therefore cannot generate shaders on their own. Your CPU will impact your compilation time way less than your GPU.

I have heard Nvidia cards struggle to be as stable as AMD for this game (crazy, I know). What are your ram and SSD specs? Any Overclocks? Even the mildest, most-stable GPU overclock causes this game (and HW:L) to crash after a few minutes.

I guess if we're real lucky there could be a first person mod (even though the game is 100% designed for 3rd person, Id def wanna try out 1st person just for the sake of it), but thats somewhat doubtful, and apart from that idk what anyone could really mod in.

I’m close to the end of the game, and it’s been smooth for the most part. It crashed earlier, and it’s had frames drops that don’t go below 40 usually. But sometimes it drops to 2 fps and stutters horribly for a little bit. I hit don’t recommend for those having worse issues, but so far I’ve been mostly lucky. Only 1 crash for me so far. They have put out a hot fix, so far doing okay. It’s a great game but they need to make this right. And future game releases NEED to stop releasing broken games for a full price. It’s just ridiculous.

@@thebleaki my cpu is a ryzen 9. Not sure exactly which one, not at my computer right now. I think it’s the 3900x. My gpu is a 3080. I also have a 49 inch monitor so my resolution is more. I’m playing on high settings, I think I turned down a few settings. And since the patch it is running better. Hope this helps. I’d say get it and deal with the problems tho, but I just can’t recommend it to someone if they’re expecting a smooth experience. No matter what pc specs you’ve got

Besides stop releasing broken games, maybe before they release a game at least before a month, they should have tried the game for themselves on different PC rigs, from low-spec to top-spec. And see what's the ultimate minimum and recommended requirements to run this game. I know presumably PS5 is equivalent to a 2080 Super or a 3080 but what gives PC ports are always broken. I'm happy that Resident Evil is optimized enough that it still supports the PS4 which is the equivalent to a 1660.

And still developers manage to put games on the market that are not finished yet (and they know it) or are full of bugs. Ruining or damaging their own reputation as a developer. It's amazing. what do you mean still? I think this is a pretty recent phenomenon. With everyone having access to the internet and OTA patches, I think companies started focusing on releasing the game ASAP and fixing it later. Whereas in the yesteryears, the launch product is the final product. They can't tinker around with it.

K to make a looooooong story short I was having the same issues that are stated here. The one thing I noticed was some of the voice audio was dropping out during cut scenes. I have a creative labs USB X4 sound box. So I decided to to shut off the software for that and run my boom 3D sound software with it and all the issues went away. Now I do a lot of audio work so that's why I have a variety of audio software. So it looks like at least some of the issue maybe sound related, maybe. I hope this might help someone, so good luck out there and this is a very good game when it runs right.

Yep, I read a reddit post where someone noticed that switching from 3d audio to stereo solves most of the issues. I tried it for myself, and the game actually runs without stuttering. Apparently this works for most people

This is how I felt playing High on Life. There was just so much stuttering, assets not loading, dialogue that plays when you’re not nearby, I even had a level where enemies spawn in wave but they literally didn’t stop spawning for like an hour and I just kept killing them before I realized the level wasn’t supposed to be that long lol. I just gave up and then one day I tried to play again and suddenly it ran fine. I gaslit myself into thinking my pc was the problem until I read the patch notes

Steam reviews aren't a good way to measure if the game is good or bad. It's mostly biased people or entitled people with 5k rigs who are expecting 300fps on 4k and ultra settings. Personally i only had 1 crash and im getting stable 60fps on ultra settings with a RTX 3060

If you enable the debug menu and look at the build date it says that the build was completed on March 25th, just three days prior to the game launching. The other three days is the time it takes for the game to publish on steam so there probably was no testing phase..

Altering some of the performance settings in Nvidia control panel removes pretty much all stuttering for me and runs buttery smooth at 4k 120hz but thats on a high end 13600k/4090 system, however I need to try this and see how it performs on my lower end 11400/6600XT rig so I can compare. I think they may already have added quite a few fixes, but lots of variables when it comes to PC games :/

A tip, if you launch the game for the first time let it build shaders. If you start playing while building shaders it is most likely to crash. I have 10 hours on this game so far and it's running smooth for me

The game has crashed for me before they left the house in the prologue waiting for the shaders to load and when they were in the town during the prologue. I have yet to make it through the prologue this is painful.

12/4/2023 As of now, the game runs fine-ish. The biggest issue I have is the unnaturally high CPU usage like, I have an i7 with a 2080 super and this thing eats like 80% of my CPU on lowest-settings-possible, with nothing else running in the background and barely taps my GPU on any settings. So, if you just wanna play the game, you should be fine but if you wanna do ANYTHING else like, streaming and gaming on the same PC, you're gonna have issues. (Side gripe of mine: They took out the difficulty-based achievements. Everything comes from collectables and playing the game but, it doesn't matter what difficulty you pick.)

Bought this game and the only problem is frame rate drops occasionally, my first time ever playing The Last of Us and let me tell you, it is amazing! The fun and joy I have while playing this game reminds me of what gaming used to feel like when I was a kid. Really great games so far, 5 out of 5.

Maybe I was one of the lucky ones. The game took around 25 minutes for building shaders. Also, I didn't encounter any kind of stuttering considering my build isn't one of the best. I did see people commenting that the game runs better on pci gen4 instead of gen3 and I can confirm that as well. I get around 90 fps on 1080p high resolution and 115 fps with dlss ON. i5-12400f and rtx 4060. This game is one of the best and I am a fan of the story driven single game genre. Tomb Raider and Uncharted lovers will love this game

I had a shit ton of crashes during the compiling shaders process. Starting the game in safe mode stopped the crashes, though. I rebooted the game like normal, once the compiling process was done, and I haven't had a single crash since. The process was really freaking slow for me as well. It took perhaps 60-90 minutes to get up to 35%, but then it reached 100% within 5 minutes for some reason.

steams refund policy is going to have change hugely if all games are going to compile shaders before you can play them. you cant even refund tlou part 1 after trying it since it wasted 3/4s of your two hours just doing the shaders. Hogwarts Legacy was similar, that first shader compilation was 45 minutes for me and it still takes 3-5 minutes every launch to do the same process.

@@mrbobgamingmemes9558 i mean the general rule of thumb for me is to always wait a few months. there have been exceptions, but pc ports have been shit at launch for at least a decade now so why people are still so surprised and angry when performance is poor is beyond me. PCs have too wide a variety in terms of hardware users could be using, that its no wonder a game made for two or three specific hardware configurations (the consoles) doesnt work well at launch. not to mention the unoptimized code that results when 100-plus people code on the same project. errors and mistakes are inherent.

It's excellent, in 8 hours, I haven't had a single problem. No crashes, no glitches, no bugs, no stuttering. Max graphics, buttery smooth. It is well worth buying. On the bright side, this is the 1st PC game where Dualsense's Adaptive triggers and haptics work wirelessly! If your Dualsense is not connected with a cable, in the menu options - it says haptics and trigger effects are disabled but in the game it's working.

you have to use cryoutilities to fix the issue on steam deck. and set it to whatever default is for it on the desktop side. then restart and profit. and as far as the playing it crappy on desktop.. you have to let the shaders finish, period. dont skip at all. it will complete. it completed for me in 15mins. on ssd, with 32gb ram and a i9-9900kf, 2080ti, prebuilt msi desktop. and it runs at 4k resolution, with dlss on quality, and all settings on high at solid 60fps. but everyones mileage and setups may vary.

How is it that gaming companies can still give us broken games like this? I don’t remember having any trouble with games from my childhood not working right out of the box, plug the game into the system and it ran nice and smooth. Had the crashing issue every 20 minutes or so of gameplay and my 3080 crashed several times as well. Set the frame rate to a max of 60 and played the entire game from start to finish with all settings to max with zero issues!

So, on my Ryzen 5 3600x, 24GB Ram, and RTX 2060s powered rig, I managed to play Uncharted: The last legacy, a game from 2017 by Naughty Dog as well, and God of War (2018) using ultra settings at 1080p, and getting 70+ fps average. The Last of Us, a game from 2013 that does not show any jaw-dropping graphical improvements over it's 2013 ancestor, and the aforementioned games, needs 7780mb graphics at medium settings and still manages to blow my mind with constant shader loading pauses. Even RDR2 did not need so much graphics at high settings. I don't understand why they really must make the remake so power hungry where the original was more than good enough. Just because it's 2023 and the GPU dictators need more cash?

When I tried to play and got put in the game it gave me the basic "What settings do you wanna play on?" and I tried to adjust some settings and then I realize my mouse is moving 5 seconds in game after I move less than a second in real time so I just refunded for pending funds before 2 hours hit if you wanna get this and lags HARD then just refund and get a better game or just get your money back because it is not worth it, get the remastered ps4 version honestly.

It’s so weird to me that people are having performance issues with this game, the shaders took 2 minutes, I’m having no stutters, crashes or fps drops while running on all ultra setting at 1440p with a smooth 140 fps.
