I'm not sure why anyone would say skip this episode. I'm a 35 year old straight dude and this was some of the best episodes of television I've seen in a minute. There's a lot of emotion and acting in the eyes that's fantastic. I really hope they get some kind of award for it

I'm not sure either. This episode was beautiful and I cried like a baby. True love is true love. For Bill to have spent most of his life alone and to not even see our speak to a soul in 4 yrs, then he finally meets "his person" is just beautiful. Despite the apocalyptic circumstances those were still the best years of his life

@@kurtrivero368 Because for some people it's beyond believability why anyone would hate this episode, simply because it involves two men in a romantic relationship. The fact this episode got so much hate because it had a gay couple in it, shows how bad our discourse is in this country (and around the world frankly) and how utterly broken some people's worldview is/will be based on their religious or political ideals. It's not naive to not understand why hate is wrong and shouldn't be accepted or normalized. Also I typed this up at like 6 am, sick as a dog after not sleeping for 3 days. So it may not even make sense lol

I’ll be honest, when I first watched this episode, I was a little uncomfortable. I’ve been completely good with LGBTQ friends, family, and associates my whole life. I’ve attended Pride events. What I realized is that I have honesty never seen a gay relationship so deeply and intimately portrayed as this show just delivered. That’s the importance of making this kind of art. It shouldn’t feel foreign, it shouldn’t feel out of place, and it sure as hell shouldn’t be hidden or muted. Great episode and even better reaction. Your powerful reflections at the end was the easiest sub I ever clicked. Thanks, Sir.

The more representation I see, the more I see how important representation is. When things that are unfamiliar to white, hetero, cis folks like me are finally in the spotlight, yeah, the unfamiliarity is uncomfortable at first. But that's all it is for most of us - unfamiliarity. It's because it's all *anyone's* gotten to see in media - white, hetero, cis people. So I hear you. But now, we finally get to see something as beautiful as this. Seeing Bill finally get to be who he was the whole time, but couldn't until a flippin' apocalypse - can you imagine? I keep thinking, did Bill ever giggle his entire life, until he was as loved as he was by Frank? It's a love story for the ages. We just never got to see it, and we've ALL been robbed because of that.
@shirowoh5850

The people that say this episode didn't add anything are missing the point completely, surviving and living are two different things. Bill was surviving until he met frank, then he had a reason to live, to protect Frank. The last of us, isn't really about zombie's, it's about human relationships. That letter is what made joel continue taking care of Ellie.
@nevaladder
@nevaladder Жыл бұрын
I get why people might say that. In terms of the plot, it doesn't really move it forward. But it's not unwelcome imo. It adds color to the world and reveals a lot about how the government handled the infection (horribly). But rather than exposition or the same old montage of civilians being mowed down by soldiers, they managed to tell the same story and add a very human layer on top by focusing on just two people. That's what made it great to me.
@shirowoh5850
@shirowoh5850 Жыл бұрын
@@nevaladder it’s funny because they actually reference the change in tone in the episode, when bill watches the zombie get shot in the face he says “that never gets old.” But a zombie show about just killing zombie does in fact get old rather quickly….

The showrunner said the Frank had either MS or ALS, some sort of neurodegenerative disease. Frank wanted to die because he didn't want to continue getting weaker, losing his dignity and being an ever bigger burden on Bill. Bill wanted to die because he didn't want to go back to being the lonely man with nobody to share his life with and no purpose other than surviving. His purpose was gone so he was content going out with it.

Who told you to skip this episode? This one's beautiful! This episode does take some liberties from the game. In the game, we only meet Bill. Bill and Frank were together for a time, but at some point Bill realized Frank might become a burden, so he kicked Frank out. Frank tried to fix up a truck, but got bit right before he finished, so he killed himself. Joel, Ellie and Bill find Frank's corpse and the truck, as well as a suicide note Frank left for Bill. You can give the note to Bill who upon reading it, will crumple it up and throw it away. Some were disappointed because in the game, Bill and Ellie have some great back-and-forth insult dialogue, but I like the direction the show went. I think they both work well in their own rights.

My only two complaints about this episode: 1: Bill is too smart to stand in the open in gunfire. He would be in a hidden sniper point. 2: Anyone who's done landscaping knows there's _no way_ the roads Joel and Ellie walk on would still be, not only intact, but completely weed-less, in 5 years of neglect let alone 20. I am the most unromantic woman alive. One of my ex told me once "I would give you the moon if you asked for it" and the only thing I thought to answer was "What the hell would I do with a moon?" and yet, when Bill said "I was never afraid until you showed up" it nearly destroyed me. And 21:00 it's not about not wanting to be here no more. I've lived with chronic pain and severe health issues since an accident I had 8 years ago. I have access to doctors, tests machines, medications, you name it. And there are still days where I wish I could just give up. I can't IMAGINE living with what I live with through an apocalypse and force my partner, who's getting old to have to feed me, and bathe me, and move me around, and lift me up and put me in my chair every time I wanted to take a shit. I firmly believe he's doing it for Bill as much as he's doing it for himself.

Thank you for speaking up about not tolerating gay slander. Whenever bigots and homophobes cry about "the woke gay agenda" it instantly becomes clear that it's not about some "agenda being forced down their throats", since this so-called "gay agenda" doesn't even exist, and more about the fact that they've managed to find a way to express their hatred for gay people while still making it seem like •they're• the ones being wronged. I loved this episode. You could interchange the two leads for a man and a woman with the exact same script and it would still be as beautiful. That’s why I loved this episode. It wasn’t about a gay relationship at the core. It was simply about a couple in love. The fact that they were two men changed nothing about the tenderness and the purity of their love and story. It was wonderful.

except that when the apocalypse happened in that world, straight marriage wasn't illegal, but gay marriage was. So a straight couple might not wait until their literal last day to get married, because it was always an option for them but it wasn't for bill and frank.

I’m not gonna lie, when you said that some people had told you to skip this episode I got scared that I was going to find out something about you that would ruin your channel for me. I couldn’t be more happy to find out that wasn’t the case!! Mad respect for the sentiments you shared at the end of the episodes. I’m sorry you have experienced prejudice and hate in your life as well. No one should ever be treated that way. This was a really, really beautiful episode. I hope Rom enjoyed his birthday steak!

If you are interested without spoilers, this was the first big change from the games story. Bill is different in the game and is alive when Joel and Ellie reach the town, Frank is in the game but only kind of. Bill and Ellie had some great interactions in the game that obvisly we didn't get in this version. In the game it's Joels first visit to Bill's town he knew him through smuggling. I was looking forward to seeing what Joel did for Bill that they mentioned in the game, as Joel mentions in the game he owes him some big favours. But this is a different t version of Bill so those Favours don't exist in this one I guess. If I had one thing I didn't like about this episode is the rate Bill and Frank aged it was so quick in the end lol the lads aged about 40 years in 20 lol Oh and where was Frank's shirt? After all he's the only idiot that would wear a shirt like that! (Bill's line in the game) lol

Hey brother, I really enjoyed your reactions to this episode. Your dogs are lovely!! You spoke about your experiences in West Virginia dealing with racist shitheads. I gotta tell you that I had similar experiences growing up in Boston in the late 70s-early 80s. That's right: "educated," "cultured" Boston, Massachusetts!!! When I was in 8th grade, I liked a white girl. One day, I walked her home after school. When we got to her house, I stayed on the sidewalk, and made sure she got in the house, then I went on my way. There was no hug, no kiss, no touching of any kind. Just a "see you tomorrow." What I didn't know at the time was that her disabled grandfather was living with the family, and he was watching from the front window. The next day, she told me what happened. Grandpa waited until the family was sitting down to dinner to ask my girfriend, "so...who's the n*gger??" Her older sister said, "that's her boyfriend." Their parents were just as racist as grandpa, and grounded her for a week!!! She and I still spoke after that, but nothing was the same. Fast forward to 12th grade. I started dating a white exchange student from Germany that year. One night we went downtown to see the Metropolitan Opera on tour. On our way to dinner prior to the opera, I met her at a train station in town. It was a Friday night in the spring, and there were lots of people out. As we were walking from the train station to the restaurant, a car full of young white boys started yelling at us. They yelled, "ditch the n*gger," "stick to your own kind," and various other things that I can't remember or didn't hear. When we sat down to dinner, she aked me what that was all about. Because she was German and had never experienced this kind of racism, I had to explain it all to her as best as I could. Not exactly the romantic dinner I had planned. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. I wish you well.

Interesting story about where they shot "Bill's Town". This is actually an entire ABANDONED community in the town of High River, Alberta. Appropriately named, because just as they were completing it this project, the 2013 "flood of the century" swept through southern Alberta and caused billions of dollars of damage, and proved that this housing development was at too low an elevation to be commercially viable. So they just abandoned it. That's why it looks so pristine - it's just a few years old and there's no "wear and tear" on anything :)

As a constant viewer and a fan of your channel... and as a openly gay man i was really touched by what you said after the episode. I grew up in a small town where I tried hiding it, but it eventually it came out and I went through similar things you did, like constant harassment and torment for being who I am. Which is something I really didn't have choice in. I just wanted to say you are even cooler in my book now and I appreciated everything you said.

I appreciate that The Last of Us takes time to show how people still try to find a niche for humanity, despite the chaos reigning down around them. Even when your fellow man turns feral, if you’re gonna fight to survive, you have to find a reason to live.

Unfortunately this episode did it in such a way that is completely antithetical to the rest of the world building, by painting a ‘picture perfect” fantasy in a world where it couldn’t happen… For fans of the Original Story, the Retcons and rewriting of this adaptation really feels like a cheap way to cram a fantasy romance story into a world where it just doesn’t make sense, and rewriting the characters to behave completely outside of their original portrayal to have the storybook Romeo and Juliet ending.

Sorry this is such a late comment and probably no one will see it, but I still want to say, I'm so happy about your comments at the end of the episode (and that during the episode, you weren't even phased by Bill and Frank). So well said and I'm so sorry you were mugged and harassed and more because you dated white women in West Virginia - that's so wrong (but unfortunately, not surprising). I happen to be a straight, white (and much older) woman and have been enjoying your reactions for a while now. It cracks me up so much when you get jump scared and then say "shut up" to the camera! Anyway, thank you for your great reactions and for your words of support for the gay community. I have a number of friends who happen to be gay and I'm just like, man, if we could just love each other and accept each other more in this world, wouldn't that be great? So thank you and I will keep watching your always fun reactions. ❤

This was a sad episode. Everyone should be loved like that at least once in their life. In the game, Frank was already dead when we meet Bill and they hinted Bill was gay but never mentioned it. I loved this episode because us gamers got to go in the past to see how Bill and Frank first met.
