Jerry new it would kill "the host" but never told Ellie and Joel and Marlene agues about the ethics with him. She was the one that later (reluctantly) tells Joel about the situation even though she was more against it than him. You have to remember that Ellie didn't know she was going to die on that table. Joel told her that years later. Had Jerry had told Ellie what was going to happen to her and Joel decided to save Ellie anyway then Joel would be the sole bad guy here. However, Ellie only consented after the fact which isn't how consent works. Imagine Marlene and Jerry never notified Joel about the circumstances and he finds out that Ellie died on the table. Not a good look for the Fireflies.

That’s part of what the “morally gray” aspect of it SO COMPELLING because EVERYONE will have their OWN VIEWPOINT of how things should’ve went. Ultimately, I kinda find Abbie’s dad to be “in the wrong” MOSTLY for ONE SPECIFIC REASON: it was NOT GUARANTEED that the “sample” he would’ve extracted from Ellie’s brain-killing her in the process-would’ve 100% unquestionably RESULTED in a CURE (and for that reason ALONE, I’m like, “dude, eff that doctor”).

In the TV show they actually show how Ellie got immune and that process is like a 1 in a million so Ellie truly is the only one of her kind. Joel took the only real chance of the world going back to normal away. But then again on a human level I'm 100% on Joel's side. If I was with Ellie and went through what they went through there was no way I was gonna let them cut her up. But that's it isn't it? It's one man's selfish reasons vs the possibility of humanity fighting its own extinction.

I honestly have no issues with the casting for Abby. If there is anything I learned is that I should withhold judgment of whether or not an actor is the right pick for an adaptation based solely on whether or not, they look like the character. Hot take- before the first season of the last of us came out on HBO, I did not think Bella Ramsey looked anything like Ellie. I didn’t fully understand that choice. But when you watch the show, they ARE Ellie in her mannerisms spirit attitude, every aspect that makes her count. so, we will just wait and see what the final product is. Besides, the last of us part two game to this day has very mixed opinions from the fan base, so I am honestly not even sure if fans of the game necessarily want a faithful retelling of that story like they did for part one, and may be open to some more creative liberties and choices being made.

I’m REALLY captivated to see how Season 2 is going to play out since there’s multiple ways they can handle the “inciting incident” that ends up putting the rest of Part II’s story into motion: - they could do a like weird “flash-forward” time jump that SHOWS IT RIGHT OUT THE GATE, before spending the REST OF THE SEASON’S episodes showing the events that led up to AND follow that event - since I BELIEVE they said that TLOU: Part II was gonna be split BETWEEN Seasons 2 AND 3, they COULD mess with the TV audience (whom doesn’t yet know what’s going to happen) by doing STRATEGICALLY PLACED time skips FORWARD and BACKWARD until finally revealing to the audience what the “inciting incident” (for all the VIOLENCE and TRAGEDY that then unfolded) IS in the season finale I’m SUPER anxious to find out and may God have mercy on the poor actors and actresses (mostly Kaitlyn, in particular) who are about to receive a metric CRAP-TON of unmitigated HATE.

I have faith in the showrunners, they've proven to have the creative ability to surprise us even within the restrictions of the IP. Size isn't the only way the writers can show that Abby's a menacing threat to Elle and Joel. What's important is Katlyn Dever has the acting chops, _No One Will Save You_ shows she can also be physical, she's a professional she'll get fit enough and movie magic will do the rest. It's kind of rare but this time Martin is being a bit of the gatekeeper he normally opposes. Remember lots of gamers hated on Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey's casting too.

I've defended Abby before, and I guess I'll have to dust off those reasonings again. This whole "got man arms, chicks can't be that buff" is wack. First, Abby's buffed up look is from a real person. Some pro cross fit athlete. Second, I've seen less men with arms like that than with. Strength belongs to those willing to work for it, not just men. Three, skinnier people who get buff can look pretty big without veering into heavy-heavy sets and weight. The most unrealistic thing i do consider is getting big requires more nurishment, and food is scarce in that world, but it's possible.

Nobody's talking about how's Bella going to be a badass killing machine like Ellie is in TLOU 2 yet, who takes on everyone and everything and she's skinny as a rake due to not eating or sleeping properly. Kaitlyn has been linked to Naughty Dog and Neil Druckmann for years. She was a character in Uncharted 4. She followed ND on Instagram or Twitter or whatever before season 1 of the show came out and had people speculating she was going to be Ellie. So it makes sense she's made it to the show. I suspect she'll either just play the younger Abby with her Dad (if you know, you know), and that would TOTALLY work as Kaitly has always looked way, way, way younger than she is. Hell, Bella turned 18 during the filming and she's supposed to be like 14. In the second game Ellie's closer to her 20s or early 20s and taller but Bella isn't tall. So Kaitlyn could be young Abby and then they use someone else for older Abby, I mean there's talks of the 2nd game being split over 2 seasons for HBO given the first one's sheer utter success. Or she'll bulk up a bit with roids and personal celeb trainers before filming starts this year, OR they'll bulk her up a bit and make her more grounded and take away the "woke" backlash Abby got from the game and make Abby a more "normal looking" woman who still has military training etc.

The way i would do S2 is the way they did S1 is mainly focus on Abby first cause the main criticism of the sequel was Joel was killed by a stranger and then later on play as her. In the show, we need to establish who she is and her motivations. Honestly, i wish joel died of old age and Ellie went on a rampage and killed someone abby loved. They said there's going to be more than two seasons. If I were to make an educated guess it would be that the following seasons will take place between parts 1 and 2 and they will use them to help build up Abbys character and show more of her past relationship with her father. That was a big problem people had with part 2 is that they replaced Joel, a beloved character we all got to know in the first one with not only tge person who killed him, but a character we had no connection to. Same goes for her father, they tried to establish the close, loving bond the two had through some flashbacks but to a lot of us he was still just the NPC we popped in the head in the first one without hesitation. Adding some seasons to flesh those characters out more would remedy that problem

Im really upset because Abby's muscles are as Integral to her character as Joel's watch is to him. They can change her race, her ethnicity- i do not care. Taking away her muscles takes away a huge partnof her character- why she has those muscles is a huge part of her character, and the loss of that muscle is symbolic as well. You cannot change the character. Idk. Bless her heart for even taking the role though- because people are going to destroy her.

It's unrealistic in a post-apocalyptic setting. To get that big you would need to consume a shit ton of protein, not capable of finding that in a world were food is scarce

In the completely true to life video game about a zombie outbreak that's definitely factual- it's absolutely outside the realm of possibility that the fictional character would have muscles. Because that's the thing that is outside the realm of possibility in The Last Of Us.

Just for a bit of clarity. The vast majority of controversy surrounding Abby has to do with what she does in the game and the level of focus she gets in comparison to Ellie, and not so much about the way she looks. I'm sure there are people who complained about that, but that isn't the biggest thing. It also has to do with Naughty Dog, Neil Druckmann specifically, trying to hid the information surrounding her involvement in the story and how his company intentionally lied about several details in the game's advertisement. He even forcibly took down several videos of people talking about the leaked story. That being said, I hope they go a different route with Abby in this story. Make her more likable and come to some understanding with Ellie.
