Horrible casting IMO. Kaitlyn is 5 foot 1 or (1.51m) and petite. There is no way that they couldn't find another actress that was 5 foot 8 (1.72m) to 6 foot (1.82m) that could show the physical dominance that Abby processes. Edit: Bella Ramsey is 5 foot 1 as well. There is supposed to be a 3 - 4 inch height difference between Ellie and Abby. Shake my head.

I know they wouldn’t want a dude playing Abby, but the designers/animators made Abby appear quite masculine. I’m sure Kaitlyn Dever will do a good job, she is a professional actor after all, but if you look up Shannon Berry, she is MUCH more fitting - she’s bigger, stronger, and has a certain “look”.

Nobody's talking about how's Bella going to be a badass killing machine like Ellie is in TLOU 2 yet, who takes on everyone and everything and she's skinny as a rake due to not eating or sleeping properly. Kaitlyn has been linked to Naughty Dog and Neil Druckmann for years. She was a character in Uncharted 4. She followed ND on Instagram or Twitter or whatever before season 1 of the show came out and had people speculating she was going to be Ellie. So it makes sense she's made it to the show. I suspect she'll either just play the younger Abby with her Dad (if you know, you know), and that would TOTALLY work as Kaitly has always looked way, way, way younger than she is. Hell, Bella turned 18 during the filming and she's supposed to be like 14. In the second game Ellie's closer to her 20s or early 20s and taller but Bella isn't tall. So Kaitlyn could be young Abby and then they use someone else for older Abby, I mean there's talks of the 2nd game being split over 2 seasons for HBO given the first one's sheer utter success. Or she'll bulk up a bit with roids and personal celeb trainers before filming starts this year, OR they'll bulk her up a bit and make her more grounded and take away the "woke" backlash Abby got from the game and make Abby a more "normal looking" woman who still has military training etc.

Im actually glad it worked out this way as ive wanted Kaitlyn dever in a last of us adaptation since I saw her portrayal of Loretta McCready in Justified season 2. I obviously had my heart set on her playing Ellie, and was hugely disappointed finding out it wasn't to be. But the narrative of the second game with her as Abby! Holy Shit!! She’s a great actress and looks like Abby in the face, the only nitpick I have is that Abby’s tall, muscular structure is a big part of her character. It’s the visualization of her obsession with Joel (Her muscles grow slowly as she trains for years, they’re at their peak when she kills Joel, Santa Barbara they fade away). It also would be a little odd to see her fight Ellie (Bella Ramsey) given they are basically the same height, and I just don’t think I could see her taking on Joel, Tommy, Jessie, etc. That being said, there’s a good chance this next season might be all that happened between the first and the second game, as well as encompassing the second game’s flashbacks. Then they save the revenge for season 3. This would make Kaitlyn Dever’s small frame understandable because Abby would have just started out training. She can hit the gym after they finish filming and will be bulked up by the time season 3 comes around, which would be present time in Part II.

Guys, it’s TV Television and film production has so many little roundabout ways of doing thing and camera tricks and prosthetics So what she’s the same height as Bella Ramsay and so what she looks petite right now Celebrities go through more intensive training than bodybuilders all the time, Henry cavil spent most of the filming for the justice league movie only being allowed water every 4 days because when your dehydrated the skin is thinner and rests on muscles tighter, creating a more toned look As long as she has the biceps, the braid, and the height it’s fine She could get good enough biceps with enough training, and we don’t even know when she actually STARTED training for this, just because they only now revealed the role doesn’t mean she wasn’t already cast beforehand And on top of that, fake heels exist. You can get special made boots that look like regular shoes/shoes with a under 2 inch heel, that in reality have a over 5 inch boost And because it’s a platform not a skinny heel that the actor is standing on, while the strain is still there it isn’t as bad, this easy fix would mean Abby would wear boots that go above the ankle the whole time and there is absolutely zero problem with that And if she doesn’t wear anything to boost her height So what The size of Abby is one of her many intimidating factors but it’s not like she’s HUGE, she’s likely only around 5,6-7 because the female brutes in game TOWER over her, she’s a brawler not a brute

Kaitlyn Dever is a much more experienced actor when it comes to subtle emotions and trauma, which will contrast beautifully with Bella's rendition of Ellie having already shown us her innate tendencies toward violence as her first response in most situations, and her being generally disagreeable to most people as a whole. In other words, in this version of the last of us, because the writers have the advantage of knowing the part 2 arch, they've taken into account where this is all headed for ellie, and what this means for her as a character, expanding on the murderous teen angst that will fuel her actions down the line, giving the audience a much clearer picture of who she become right from the outset, and losing a little of her videogame counterparts charm and innocence in the process. This is going to enable a more even playing field for the viewer to decide which character they ultimately identify with more from episode to episode, and giving Dever's portrayal of abby a chance to be seen as an equal and opposite to Ellie, rather than her just being hated on for killing joel, which I don't think they realised was going to be as intense a reaction as they got from the fans after the second game launched!

Never go after the actor playing the role ( unless they go after the fans then it’s on them ) However an easier solution would be to simply not watch if you hate what was done in the las of us part 2 and save yourself the BS

How is this brilliant casting? Abbey is neither short, skinny or cute. Im sure Kaitlyn is a great actress. But Abby and her physique plays a large role in character building and storytelling. She is a violent, bulky woman who has been shaped by trauma. She has a very hard, tough exterior as if trying to build a wall against pain and vulnerability. Sorry. But no amount of training will make Kaitlyn fit that role. I think she is a cowardly choice for a controversial and interesting character.

She says she is a huge fan of storyline so I think she will absolutely put on the mass for it! She sees the commentary about it and would know it's a big part of the character's identity. Muscle CAN be attained and lost as needed, actors do it all the time. Look at what Christain Bail did for some his roles.

"...whose black-and-white view of the world is challenged as she seeks vengeance for those she loved.” Straight off the bat, this description of Abby is very telling by HBO. In the original game she isn't challenged at all as she seeks vengeance - she just turns up and gets it, then she's hunted by Ellie, etc. You could argue her previous actions are challenged late on in the game's story, but that's not what this statement implies at all. I just find the wording very interesting. Those who want the show to mirror the game might be very disappointed with season 2 I think...

I'm not a big fan of this game series, but the show could have been incomparably better if HBO had picked a decent writer and director, like Gareth Evans or Kim Jee-woon for example. They would take this show to a whole other level

Hi Dom! I can't wait to see what HBO does with The Last Of Us in Season 2 and how they'll adapt The Last Of Us Part 2 to tv! However they do it I have a lot of confidence that they will be able to pull it off so that the second Season does well too! I hope that they give Joel more screen time like they did with Sarah in the first episode of Last Of Us HBO Season 1.
