I know the T Od is a Timmy, Rioter is the Suhr Riot, O.C. Drive is OCD, Sweety is the Sweet Baby, OverDrive one is maybe the first Boss or another yellow OD, Crunchy is a Marshall in a box, the 808 is self explanatory and the Boost I haven’t seen any comparison yet. I think these are all based on the Joyo clones of each of those circuits. It’s definitely a killer pedal at that price, and I think it’s perfect for anyone trying to decide what type of OD they like.

Very interested video Shane, and actually this was a question going through my mind lately. I started guitar not too long ago and I have a Katana mk2. Do you think it makes sense for me to start looking for some pedals? There are some sounds or effects that I can't get out of it as a particular fuzz or an octaver but these overdrives you are demoing here are in the Katana. Do you think the amps included in the Katana are not enough and I should start looking for some external help?
@ravenslaves4 жыл бұрын
I'm almost to the point where I'm starting to think that all overdrives are exactly the same...depending on the color of the box. I mostly know they're not. But after 6 or 7 _hundred_ different overdrive pedals on the market...they all just sort of blur into their different colors. ...mostly green.
@joshmuz90184 жыл бұрын
Depends if you go for differing circuit designs they are based off. You get a klon a TS a bluesvreaker a fuzz a timmy transparent type and and then say a Marshall amp in a box pedal and they will all yield very different results. Maybe you just got a whole bunch of ts style based overdrives
@CorbCorbin4 жыл бұрын
There are big differences, especially when clipping diodes are added, or it’s an LED, Mosfet, or Asymmetrical no diode which is the basic Tubescreamer. This is where some Boost pedals can sound much more like OD or even Fuzz pedals when cranked, and then a Rat will get a crunchy tone to Fuzz, using the Op Amp method. As one gets better at dialing in pedals, I can see someone not hearing much difference watching videos, because the best demoers can dial in any OD to sound good, or at least usable.

*The Ibanez Tube Screamer seems to be a good pedal. So good, a friend of mine seemed to have Conveniently MisPlaced it after I did a demo in his studio. It show, Egos can get in the way of friendship. Honestly, how can a disabled and homeless man, be such a Threat?*

@@joshmuz9018 It's not that...mostly...I have a ton of OD's of all different types...supposedly.. But the one that I keep going back to because I've never found a "better" one, is the first OD pedal I ever owned. Which is a Chandler Tube Driver with a 12AU7. I've picked up several variations over the years from the Butler to the TubeWorks made in Tiawan, 5 knob. Even the rackmount dual channel. That one particular style just seems to do it all....and yet I know I'll just accumulate more OD pedals....

I think I know how you feel. There are hundreds of different overdrive varieties out there but ultimately they seem to be applied in the same handful of ways and played in very similar styles (tailored to be effective in demos). This seems like a nice pedal, the sounds are actually quite good. Interesting that I have a preset saved on my Kat 100 MK2 that sounds just like the mudmaker, I use it for a particular song with a particular guitar, It's kinda that heavy indistinct ripped speaker tone. If however you decrease the bass on the amp the mud goes away and the sound becomes a really nice tone. This makes me believe Joyo should have included a full tone stack on this pedal. It would have been unbeatable! I guess it would have been too good to be true. However, 8 tones from one pedal is nothing to complain about and I believe it beats paying 200 bucks for one of the one trick ponies the market has been flooded with now for years.

I think a lot of your sample licks are in the vein of blues and classic rock, so if you don't like the 'mud' sound (the last selector knob setting / O.C. Drive) it might sound better for like sludge or doom metal or something. Different tones naturally would be better for certain genres/sounds def not 'one sound fits all' (which is why a pedal like this is cool for all the options). I did notice when you played the single note lick though it was pretty good, like it could thicken up a thin sounding lead...

My only question on this type of 8 in one pedal is wiuld you want different tone and gain settings depending on the chosen OD? If so, this might not be as versatile in a live gig setting as you would need to adjust all the knobs each time you switch modes. That said, in a gig situation one OD is close enough to another OD that you should be able to use your tone and gain to dial in a sound clise enough to what you want to get by. Though I can see the benefit more for home or studio recording use where the little differences in nuance between the modes would be more important.

Great review man! Love Joyo effects! I’m always on the fence as to whether I like multi-pedals. I find myself only dialing in one or maybe two sounds I really like (unless there is a memory function controllable by the foot switch) because it’s a hassle to bend down to adjust it. That said, what could be cool here is if it only cloned two classic drives (like a Klon and tube screamer), had two foot switches and a “blend” knob. This would allow you to use the sounds separately or stack them. 🤙🏻🤔🎸
