@@Cheezy_Bunz agreed 100%. Just saying those people become acclimatised to the conditions they live in. What we would think is cold and harsh, to them is normal. Remember in the west and more developed parts of Russia and Ukraine were really pampered with 24/7 electricity, heating, air conditioning, ultra soft beds and clean linen and clothes everyday. I’ve been to many ex Soviet nations through work, and the older generation are made of tougher stuff than us. Even the Polish who had their nation raided so many times, remain tough, strong people. They build everything themselves their own homes, repair their own trucks and cars that includes electrics, plumbing irrigation and sewage works, amazing to watch them work. In a apocalypse they would outlive us in a heartbeat, they are the most resourceful people you’ll ever come across. If there’s one good thing that came out of communism it was to teach people how to be resourceful. They can happily survive on food scraps we Chuck out as garbage. No part of the animal goes to waste, tongue, brain, hoof’s you name it sir, they’ll make something of it, big pot of Goulash that’ll last a week and kept cold storage outside in the snow. She’s fine .. most of the older generation in Ukraine speak Russian and are sympathetic to the Soviet days

Fascinating. I remember the accident happening as a child. I was only almost 5 years old too. I’d love to visit one day.

That church was amazing! How far is that lady from the fire station and how does she get there? Also did you ask her if she has a radio at least?

Oh my goodness! That church! If that church is in danger of being burnt down, someone needs to rescue those icons and give them to another, functioning church.
@lynnhauenstein41363 жыл бұрын
Yes, it appears to me there has been a mission of folks, believers who have clean church. But I agree before a fire or roof leak, the Icons, need to be salvaged, placed in a museum. Maybe use dome for centerpiece. With cover, But all of this costs money. If you have ever been to Russian stores, often in West this stuff is for sale to westerners. I don't like it but if it's going to ruin or burned, let folks enjoy it. I don't know if funds can be raised via online, GO FUND ME is possible to save this history or not. Prob is so many churches need same help as I've been told. Seems Russia has too much history to preserve all.

Must get very boring for her at times,She said she has a TV but broken one, is there any way we could organize to get someone to bring he an tv and install it for her? I would be willing to pay for it if it can be arranged
@moonafarms16213 жыл бұрын
A TV does not resolve boredom. The woman does not have TV as a priority... there are many like her! TV subscriptions are not constructive! Can I get a -- p r o p a g a n d a?

She can be given a radio for example, its a better way to connect older people.

Better help her by giving her equipment for potatoes. She has more important things to worry baout than boredom. Like food!

Just to let you know, this isn’t the last resident. There are a few hidden villages within Chernobyl that hold a few people in each village.
@Darwinsmom3 жыл бұрын
Apparently more than a few of the older generation snuck back to their farms. I couldn't begin to imagine how hard it must have been for the oldest residents to face forced relocation. Got to admit I would love to visit the Exclusion Zone myself. It would be fascinating to speak with the rare resident still there.

I have so many questions. If she's been there alone for 30+ years, where did she get the cat and dog? Were they strays, or did someone bring them to her? Perhaps the military checkpoint men? Does she grow wheat to make the bread? Who fixes the downed power lines? I can't imagine a utility company would bother to keep fixing them in an abandoned area.
2 жыл бұрын
they have to fix it as the powerplant needs energy
