the thrill of the reload! I'd be lying if i said Metal Gear Solid didn't heavily influence which guns i like, especially MGS3. I never gave much thought to wheel guns and i really didn't give any thought to the Colt SAA until i played that game for the first time. It made me go back and take a closer look at the real M1911A1 that my great grandpa used during WWII and the wheel guns he left behind. He hated single actions with gate loading though, so he only ever got more modern double actions that you can load with a speed loader. i don't think he ever used a moon clip, but i have shot wheel guns that were set up for moon clips before, and its pretty awesome. Part of the reason why cowboy action shooting is so amazing is that you are forced to be so fast and accurate with these handicapped guns. its like watching the world's fastest sprinter cover himself in weights before running at the olympics, and he still wins
@reliantncc18642 жыл бұрын
@Blonde Viper A sense of urgency caused by using an inferior and obsolete gun? I'm gonna pass on that. I also do not want to be holding back a potential fight-ending shot in the hopes of getting a better shot because I'm worried about running out of ammunition. A modern handgun is in every significant way superior to a revolver. That is a fact. I like revolvers. I own two. But if I am picking a practical gun, I will never choose a revolver over a modern handgun. Would you? Oh, and I practice plenty.

I have a Colt SAA with 5 1/2" barrel chambered in .38-40, make in 1904. I learned to shoot a handgun with that gun at age 11 and carried it for many years. In Jan 1973 it saved my life! In the early '90s I semi retired it and bought a new generation Colt SAA with 4 3/4" barrel in .45 colt! That has been my primary carry gun ever since. These guns are what I feel the most competent and proficient with. For me they they have a "pointability" I have never been able to duplicate with any other handgun. At any distance under 20 feet I don't have to use the sights. Came in handy in near darkness that Jan night.

I wonder if there are any records left that would show who that cavalry Colt was issued to? It might be interesting to know more about the history of that gun and how it got from being an army issue in 1883 to Hickok45's collection in 2022.
@anthonyiocca56832 жыл бұрын
Those records are called a “hand receipt”. The armorer maintains the “hand receipt”when the weapon is issued. Once the weapon is turned back into the armorer the “hand receipt” is given to the soldier filled out and dated as turned in. The armorer has the weapon, the soldier has the hand receipt proof he turned in the weapon. So unless the soldier kept that hand receipt as a keep sake is where it could be. Even today the U S Army doesn’t maintain a by name record of who was issued what and when. Since that weapon was in very good condition it may of not been issued much…

That was my choice too...That 45 Colt. Loved the whole look but especially the grips. Love your videos by the way!

My first and only Colt SAA, purchased earlier this year, is a … 2nd Gen, 1969, 5 1/2” barrel, .45. It does not have stag grips - yet.

No argument on your choice! I have single actions from Ruger, Freedom Arms, Magnum Research BFRs, and a '59 Colt .45 SAA bought new for $125! It is the one I'd keep - if only one were possible. Thank goodness I can keep all of mine, as shooting big bore SA revolvers is my favorite pastime.

I really like the Colt Cowboy revolver of the wild old west. Thanks for your interested clip.

If I were you, I’d keep your dads. It’s beautiful and the sentimental value is priceless

This man is a Craftsman, I have a double action, nickel plated Lightning, in pieces in a box, pearl handles and everything. Tore it apart to replace a spring and I will be Darned if I can figure out how it goes back together, love the gun, though.

Great choice Hickok! I Really enjoyed this episode. I’d pick the long branch.
