I also love this one! It's a perfect movie in some ways, not the most spectacular space opera ever made, but it knows what kind of tone it's going for, striking a near perfect balance between humor, camp, and genuine character deve and storytelling. I came across this movie for the first time in art college while applying to all sorts of internships, events, and film festivals, and it genuinely gave me the confidence to put my work out there. As Centauri put it, "If that's all you think you are, then that's all you'll ever be."

Watched this so many times as a kid. My dad was a part owner of a gas station convenience store in the 80s, and like so many of the day there were vhs rentals in one corner. We got free rentals and this one was on regular rotation.

So many places had rentals in a corner lol. We had a grocery store that sold hiking gear, guns, sears dillards, macy’s clothing, of course movie rentals, somehow also made trophies for kids baseball, basketball lol. Place had like a pawn shop section with used guns too. I think the owner was in the mob. Dude had his hand into all kinds of gear. The 80’s were so wonderful.

@RxYouth well tbf if they were watching the movie then it wasn't available for rent, assuming they were watching during store hours so it did potentially cost money to loan them out if that follows. Plus they were extremely expensive and had a limited lifespan.

Every time I read about rebooting this movie I always think they should spend real money on just redoing the cgi for modern audiences and carefully insert them in the movie that already exists. The live action is just perfect and the aliens still look perfect as well. Just the special effects, keep the rest. Release it. Perfect script. Perfect cast.

I had a similar problem where I conflated Jason and the Argonauts with Army of Darkness. I thought they were the same movie because I must’ve watched them back to back on the same day when I was very, very young. It wasn’t until I found RLM and that got me to rewatch Army of Darkness that I realized they were separate movies.
