I'm 50% French and 50% Brazilian and I was born in Santo Domingo. I fluently speak French and English, and i speak Spanish (but still make a few mistakes), and I speak a bit Portuguese. I'm proud of being Latina, and its so annoying because people always think I'm lying about my nationality because I'm white and I have blonde hair. Anyway I think you're awesome and really pretty:)

In the video I said I technically consider myself 100% Dominican because My mother and father are both Dominican. My Grandmother from my mother side is Puerto Rican and Dominican. Honestly was just guessing the percentage, I'm sure I was off a bit

This tag made me want to learn more about my culture. You can say my family is more americanized? I guess. My mom is Dominican, Puerto Rican and black if you want to get literal. My grandfather is from the Dominican Republic he's from Santo Domingo and my grandmother is puerto rican and black her father is puerto rican and mother is black and Irish. I speak absolutely no Spanish lmbo I understand it a little as some of my family members chose to learn and speak it as others like my mom chose not to. Most of the men speak it fluently not the women so much maybe a couple at least the ones that are in the U.S. I have family in DR as well as Puerto Rico but never chose to visit when other family goes because I felt embarrassed and felt as although I never really embraced it as much as I should besides when it comes to the food! Lol I no bad. Although not all of us speak Spanish they still embrace the culture of course but let someone ask me what am I and I just say black all hell breaks lose because there's some people in my family thinks its a slap in the face as if I'm hiding it. I just identify with the african american culture idk. But I never deny it it's just people expect you to speak read write Spanish and breathe it being sarcastic but thats how it feels. It think I sound terrible speaking Spanish so the little I can say I chose not to because I sound I think I sound weird. But watching your tag made me understand how important is to learn and understand where you come from even if your mixed you shouldn't feel like you're more than the other. Maybe I'll actually take my uncle up on the offer for learning Spanish and visiting more. Anyways loved the video very inspirational.
@KayraAmore9 жыл бұрын
+Love MyKhael Such a beautiful mix! I understand where your coming from. Growing up I moved to a predominantly white community and started to neglect and not want to speak spanish when I was younger so I stopped speaking spanish completely for a few years. Only spoke it with my grandmother and father. I look back at it and find it completely sad and foolish. I think you would love the Dominican culture and the food like you said lol! Don't be scared to speak spanish and talk to your uncle as much as you can!! Embrace it baby girl
@jasminepearls10475 жыл бұрын
When you say you are just black you are implying that your family has been in the U.S. since the 1700 or 1800s. If your parents or grandparents came from somewhere else you shouldnt say you are just black because you are making people think you are of another ethnicity.

If you have not been born in the Dominican Republic, I cannot see why you would consider your nationality to be “Dominican”. You sound gringa to me, so I’m assuming you were born in the US, and therefore your nationality is American = US citizen. Nationality is tied to one’s country of citizenship. You could consider yourself to be Dominican culturally or ethnically, but I cannot see why you would be Dominican if only your parents are from there. Cool painting, though. :)
