You have demonstrated that Japanese-style gardens can be luxuriant as well as the austere ones we see more often. Thank you.

Thank you for pointing this out. I'm not sure how to characterize my Japanese style garden. It is what it is, and it's me. The area in which I have to work is very small and compact, and thus it's intensively gardened. If I had more space in which to work, the garden would likely be more spread out and less cluttered looking. But then, if it were too large, then it would be overwhelming to me and I'd probably not have the time to properly care for it or manicure it. When I look at the gardens in Kyoto and elsewhere I see all types of gardens depending on the spacial constraints or lack thereof as well as the purposeful intent and vicissitudes of the gardens' designers. Bottom line: go for it and be inspired by the Japanese style, but then create your own garden that pleases you and is a reflection of your own tastes. What fun this can be!!!
