“Watching your vicious bastard die gave me more relief than a thousand lying whores.” One of my favorite lines. And Tywin - do you think he was using the situation to get all that he wanted? Jaime - out of the kings guard and lord of Casterly Rock? Tyrion hidden at the wall? Definitely one of my favorite episodes. Get ready for Ep 7-10. What a great season!

The moment you realize that Tywin and Tyrion are by far the best and most goated actors in the entire show. For women it has to be Cersei. Impeccable acting. Not even some of the best movies out there, reach this level in acting.

George R.R. Martin says he writes like a gardener. He basically let´s his characters grow, with the characteristics he has given said house or character and allows them to navigate the story, rather than writing the story around the character.

You're exactly right Kev, Peter Dinklage blew us all away with this performance. I want to respond to your question about the book direction and GRRM's intentions. The books are obviously different to the show, so there are plenty of things that don't line up entirely. One of them is Jaime's character. That's not to say the show is wrong, only that the 'change' in Jaime seems much more sudden. In the text, we don't get Jaime's point of view until he's with Brienne, so all we have to go on are his actions. BUT. When we get inside Jaime's head - which the show *can't* do, we learn a great deal about him. Up until being captured in the Whispering Woods by Robb, Jaime has been utterly dominated by his father Tywin, and twin Cersei. He's been defined by the way they see him - the dutiful son, the controllable brother, but his roles as both a knight and a Kings Guard, roles that contradicted each other, brought him a great deal of inner conflict resolved only when he killed the insane and sadistic King Aerys II. When we get that insight, we know that while he considers his act a 'good' one, people hate him for it, name him Kingslayer, oathbreaker, and generally despise him, he basically gives up trying to be seen as a good man. A long time away from Tywin and Cersei where he's locked in isolation, means that when Catelyn releases him, for the first time in his adult life not doing as his family demand - he can literally make his own decisions. Then he spends time with Brienne, a woman, unable to ever be knighted, but living life as a knight OUGHT to. Brienne is the person he tells about why and how he killed Aerys II. Brienne is the person he asks to call him by his given name, to *see* him beyond his reputation, and Brienne is the one he gives the Valyrian steel sword named Oathkeeper. Jaime's show character in general is pretty book accurate, and book readers begin by hating him too (he *does* push a child out of a window!), only the fact that you don't get Jaime's inner conflict, shame, or anger about his reputation is what makes the shift so sudden. I look forward to the day you start the books Kev - I think you'll get so much enjoyment from them!

The thing that gets me most about Shae’s testimony… if I try to understand how hurt she was (even tho we all know Tyrion was just trying to protect her & she wouldn’t listen) I can “understand” why and how she could be persuaded to betray Tyrion. But Sansa?! Talking about “they planned it together”?! She was *fiercely* protective of Sansa. Then to betray her like that, knowing damn well she’s lying just kills me. 😭
@allensteph1112 күн бұрын
I always think people are way too harsh on Shae. I truly think it’s as simple as this: tywin was going to kill her if she didn’t testify like this. Tyrion does not deserve this at all…but I believe if Shae didn’t “betray” Tyrion she would have been killed. So she did this to survive. my take at least.
@rachelMB12 күн бұрын
@ I absolutely agree, which is why I can get to the point of understanding the betrayal of Tyrion. It’s just the betrayal of Sansa that gets me. But you’re right, if her life is being threatened she likely had to say exactly what Tywin instructed her to.

1. This here, right here is when you start liking Jamie if it hasn't happened yet, the way he talks up to his father, you can feel the love for Tyrion, the outrage. Such a special character, loves 2 characters that want to kill eachother: his siblings. Although Tyrion never wanted to kill Cercei, nor hated her as she hates him, far from it. 2. Tyrion's brilliant outburst. Legend. He won awards for it, nothing undeserved. Nothing else needs said.

@18.02 - Pycelle holds up the necklace that Sansa was wearing at the wedding - but Sansa had the necklace around her neck when she fled King’s Landing; in fact, Little Finger crushed a piece of the necklace when Sansa boarded his ship. So Pycelle is lying and we should ask where the second fake necklace came from.

So there are generally two types of writers. Those who plan and those who write by the seat of their pants. George RR Martin falls into the latter, a hundred percent. He calls himself a "gardener" rather than an "architect." He plants lots of story seeds and then decides later which ones to cultivate. There's a loose idea of where the story is supposed to end, but how it'll get there, even George doesn't know.

George Martin has said that he's the type of writer who has a good idea of their themes, some vague idea of where the characters may go, but mostly is finding out what happens as they write it (paraphrasing).

@@lucasdolding6924 There are two general types of writers: architect and gardener. The architect plots everything out very carefully beforehand and then writes to those specifications, whereas the gardner strategically plants seeds and then watches them grow. Neither is better or worse, just the two main approaches for writers. Martin is a gardener 🙂
@lucasdolding69246 ай бұрын
@@ellaphx Yeah though I feel like most are probably gardeners, create great characters and set the scene and themes and just go with what feels naturally. It's good to be a bit of both; have some kind of plan but make sure it still feels natural as it develops and if something new develops that was unplanned, see where you can take it.

I could listen to that trial speech on a loop. So amazing! I hope Dinklage gets a role one day that just approaches Tyrion again. This to me points out a reason I'm not 100% on board with the prequel series. There's no character on that show that makes me think "Yes, it's another scene with him!" like Tyrion.
