General Adisa was my father's friend and he was an honourable man in his dealings with people. He is not the kind of person to take unfair advantage nor allowed whatever position he held get to his head unlike many of his peers at the time. He could have reported what he knew but perhaps his greatest miscalculation was that he didn't think the coup planners would set it in motion and did not want to put them in an embarrasing position by reporting what Diya and co could easily deny. Throughout the testimony he did not contradict himself. Remember he said that he had no need to lie since Abacha had died and no longer in power but he had to come clean for posterity sake. He disagreed with Diya who said there was never a coup. On hindsight, it is apparent that Diya was lured into a carefully designed loyalty trap by Bamiyi. Being 2nd in command and with Abiola in custody Diya must have been dreaming of creating history in a post Abacha government with the support of the western diplomats seeing how isolated Nigeria was becoming from the rest of the world with Abacha's human rights record and his refusal to dance to the econonic tune of the west unlike IBB.

Major mustapha was a dangerous man, so much evidence against him. Its amazing the Nigerian courts found him not guilty of all the crimes levelled against him. The guy was a brutal murderer but also cunny, he knew how to play the role of the victim. His sentence to death should have stayed.
@ibenzawla10 жыл бұрын
Some valid points actually but if we go by your logic a lot of people of power deserve death in Nigeria. At the end of the day your chance of survival depended on your ability to navigate the very dangerous political situation in Nigeria at that time. You even have to make friends with your enemies at times if necessary as the general portrays on this video. Kudos to him for bringing himself down and do the obvious and as he says "live to fight another day".

This is not cowardice I am ex military n I can tell from the discussion Its a coup trial major Mustapha saying why don't they come to talk to me tells that it's a coup plot and even heating about a coup plot in the military makes you a part of the coup planners n the punishment for a coup is death.

How many Northern coup plotters have they exposed so disrespectfully, begging and kneeling, I am sure it is not only Adisa or Diya, that have done so in private🤔🤔🤔🤔. This was another ignoble way of diminishing those guys. Fast forward to this day, we are giving Boko Haram amnesty and trying to reintegrate them back into society after they have murdered many🤯🤯🤯🤬🤬🤬.

I wud ve begged like him. Mustapha shud be ashamed of himself, for a far senior officer to be begging him like this. This underscore de immensity of power in his hands. He can order adisa death and nothing will. Thank God, mustapha is a better person now.
