On April 11th, Yoly and I traveled up to Columbia, TN to pick up our custom built Eureka truck camper. Ours had quite a few special options including 2 bi-directional Fantastic Fans, larger than standard side windows, slide to open cab-over windows, extra powerstrips, a custom made reclining couch base and a custom extended bed to accommodate an RV "short queen" mattress orientated for "north/south" sleeping. All these things added to the cost which still came in for less than $9K. The base price can be as low as $8K or less. We carefully weighed the truck unloaded on our way to pick up Nate and then weighed the truck with the camper at the same scale on the same day after topping off fuel each time. The camper weight as calculated from the Cat scale certificates was exactly 1220 lbs. This makes this truck camper the least expensive and most lightweight production truck camper on the planet :-)
Since there is no propane system, while traveling we will be running the compressor 110 volt fridge from a 1500 watt inverter that I will be installing . Our fridge will be a 2 door model with a larger than standard freezer. We will be adding a 24 inch LED flat screen and a PS4 and an adjustable dinette table large enough for our laptops etc. When hooked up to shore power or generator, we'll be cooking on an induction cooktop and on a Coleman camp stove otherwise. This slightly smaller than average camper will still have the essentials for camping comfort including a comfortable couch, entertainment center, beautiful views out large windows and blissful sleep on a 5 inch tri-fold memory foam mattress.
Use the links above follow-up videos displaying all the upgrades and niceties added since taking delivery.

Congrats, Neil and Yoly, on Nate the Eighth! It's funny you mentioned the Ranger Runner in a comment below....when I saw the vid it looked like the RR sitting atop your truck. Win-win! Thanks again Petra .... Blue River CG was one of the strangest we'd ever stayed at. Each site had it's own sewer hose already connected in ground and all you had to do was connect it to your outlet. Only problem was that the hoses were like 30 feet long ! We were excited because this was the gateway to the really beautiful areas of Jasper & Banff that we'd be visiting in the days ahead :-)

I had two bumper pool travel trailers last year. A small Rockwood and a large Coleman. Found that simpler is better for wife and I. Went looking for a small truck camper and saw your video. Really helpful in learning about Eureka. Placed our order last week for a non-cabover model with the queen size dinette option. This also lowered the weight. Thanks for all of the useful information you posted and in the replies. Based on your video's we also ordered the oversize windows.

Lovely camper.. I had never heard of them before. Are they aluminium framed with codeboard insulation? I would likely install a roof rack type wind deflector in the front to make it even more aerodynamic and maybe gain an extra mpg on long high speed freeway drives. Anyway I like your approach to simplicity. Happy travels!
@TravelswithYoly
@TravelswithYoly 6 жыл бұрын
They are made with 1 inch square aluminum frame members with painted aluminum skin on the outside and not sure about the internal skin material. Every section between the frame struts is filled with a very high density foam block for strength and R9 insulation value. You can get a glimpse of the bare frame construction in my previous video "Searching for Camper #8"

The only thing I'd do is splurge on some auto electric jacks, will make loading and unloading so much easier. Other than that. Looks fun!
@TravelswithYoly
@TravelswithYoly 6 жыл бұрын
Interesting topic actually ..... I've had both and have noticed something distinguishing the manual and electric jack systems. Due to the need to preserve the electric motors, the gear ratios in the electric jacks actually run the jacks very slowly. It's easier but takes forever sometimes. With manual jacks and a good cordless drill, you can run those puppies up and down in about 1/4 the time. Granted, you have to keep walking around the camper doing each one in equal increments, but I always had to do that with the electric jacks also since they don't extend or contract the legs at the same rate. To my mind, there's not much advantage to electric jacks, unless you're faced with hand cranking the manual jacks. As another consideration, the complexity of the electric jack system leaves it open to issues not found in the plain manual system. I have a good cordless drill to run them up and down and I like the simplicity and reliability of the manual jacks. I'm almost finished with the interior mods and will be making a follow-up video :-)

@TravelswithYoly
@TravelswithYoly 6 жыл бұрын
Hey LOLA ..... the concept behind this camper is similar to the Range Runner that we had ..... that being a way to camp comfortably without the complexity and cost of elaborate and unreliable systems. Propane wasn't really an option so it wasn't actually a choice. Like many things in life, there are always pros and cons to everything. The only thing propane did that I can't do with this set up is provide heat from a forced air furnace. I contemplated getting a Wave 3 heater but really don't want the weight (and bulk) of a large propane bottle. I plan on carrying our Coleman camp stove and a couple one pound bottles (as well as our Coleman grill) so I might just run the Wave 3 from one of those in the rare times when it might be needed. When connected to power we can use the induction cook-top and when boondocking we can use the Coleman. We also have the Honda EU2000 if we're in a position to use it. I like the idea of keeping it simple, no real winterization necessary and no real plumbing to worry about. This move was all about downsizing to save money and I think it's succeeded. If we could be comfortable in the little Range Runner (which we were) we can be comfortable in Nate also :-)

@TravelswithYoly
@TravelswithYoly 6 жыл бұрын
This is the 4th truck camper we've had and in most cases the tie downs stick out the side of the truck at the bottom or they use Brophy mounts that attach at the top of the bedrails and also stick out. Both options are gangly looking but necessary. But because this camper is so light, it can easily be secured using the rings that the factory installs in the bed by using simple turnbuckles. I really do like the clean look compared to the alternatives :-)

We have a lot in common .... we're former Ecodiesel owners as well as former Runaway Range Runner owners :-) kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4nPlquwasqbirM I'm still outfitting the Eureka and will have a full walk-thru video when it's completed. I've got the inverter all hooked up, the 24 inch flat screen and PS3 mounted, a step riser for our feet since the seat base is so high and currently working on a table for our laptops. We also have a nice induction cook-top that fits the counter space perfectly. I'd be curious what your actual weight is on a Cat scale. We weighed ours on the way home and without the fridge it weighed 1220 lbs. That would mean that the extra 24 inches of cab-over weighs 320 plus lbs (hard to believe). I'd also recommend checking the area where the turnbuckles make slight contact with the aluminum siding. Ours had a spot wearing through the aluminum after towing it home 265 miles. I made small wooden inserts to keep that contact from happening in the future.
@MrDrews50
@MrDrews50 6 жыл бұрын
Travels with Yoly I weighed it at Loves, before and after. Mine came in at 1080 pounds with the refrigerator. It’s like having a well furnished Runaway on your truck, plus the headroom, plus the cab over bed. My stove is a 15,000btu dual fuel, butane or 1#propane bottles. I have an induction unit in my other RV. I haven’t figured out heating yet and hope not to for a few more months.

That's funny ... we keep making comparisons to the Range Runner also. One of our subscribers even commented that it looked like our Range Runner on the back of the truck. We still have all our camp cooking gear from the Range Runner also .... a Coleman stove and grill that we run off the 1lb bottles also. I'm fascinated by how fast the induction cook-top can cook ! We have a 1 Gal refillable propane tank (9 inch diameter and 12 inches high) and a regulated hose for a Wave 3 in our Amazon "wish list" if we decide we need to camp this winter :-) So where are you headed for your first Eureka trip ?

I am assuming that you're going by the CAT scale weight certificate at the end of the video and I also then assume that you are referencing the total weight of the truck and camper. The video is about the lightest hard side camper and at 1220 lbs, this is the fact. The truck is a 3/4 ton truck and based upon the CAT Scale certificates, if you subtract the unloaded weight from the loaded weight, you get the camper weigh by itself (1220 lbs).

Sorry for the late reply ... just saw your comment today. The 1220 lb weight is the dry weight of the camper as it came from the factory. That does include the weight of the house battery. We added our own fridge which brought the weight to 1274 lbs. The fresh water tank when full will add another 40 lbs. @TravelswithYoly
@TravelswithYoly 6 жыл бұрын
All electrical in the camper is routed through a standard Progressive Dynamics 30 Amp converter much like most of the RV industry. This includes a main breaker as well as individual breakers for all circuits. The small 5,000 BTU window units have been used successfully this way in the industry for years. The powerstrip itself has a 15 Amp built in breaker as well (as many of them do). Then again, the 30 Amp shore power cord is plugged into a house circuit with its own breaker as well, just as the pedestal post at a campground would.

@TravelswithYoly
@TravelswithYoly 4 жыл бұрын
Considering that I sold it about a year ago, I don't do anything :-) But frankly, the unit was so basic and utilitarian there wasn't much to fail especially considering a comparison to conventional RV products. In the year that we had it I only had to fix one small item and the rest of the time was spent upgrading for our particular application. The couple that purchased it from us continued to send us photos and updates of their adventures over the next 6 months claiming to absolutely love it. They pull a horse trailer around the country to horse events and their truck couldn't handle the weight of conventional truck campers considering the load involved. As for warranty, many of the well established RV manufacturers blew me off and denied claims when I had issues and the ones that did authorize their dealer to make the repair put me on a 4 to 6 month waiting list. Nothing is perfect.

Nice camper. Not the least expensive but not the most expensive.Also the weight... I have a lance 805 "designed " for 1/2 ton truck. Loaded with water,propane and one battery it's about 1500 lbs. No personal gear loaded. I got it on a 3/4 ton dodge ram with airbags. There are lighter truck campers out there. Maybe not built as well or equipped as well.
@TravelswithYoly
@TravelswithYoly 4 жыл бұрын
The Eureka out the door as delivered to us with many options was $8900. I think that makes it the least expensive especially if you subtract the cost of the optional A/C and microwave and upgraded windows. It was weighed on a CAT scale on the way home and it topped out as 1220 lbs. (including 100 AH AGM battery). I believe that makes it the lightest. I don't believe most of the advertised weights from manufacturers and unless you have a CAT scale receipt showing the weight, I'm always going to be skeptical. I upgraded the camper with a 1500 watt inverter, 26 inch flat screen and a PS4. Added the tri-fold mattress and couch mattress. Also added a porta-potti with a 5.3 gal black tank. The 1600 lbs I referenced as fully loaded included all our clothing, gear, food, water, generator, generator fuel, 10x10 pop-up, reclining camp chairs, camera and drone gear. In other words, that was our truck weighed as a complete set up. There is no doubt in my mind that this truck camper is the lightest and least expensive hard side you could buy new. Even bare bones pop-up truck campers are more expensive and heavier. This was definitely a niche market camper and a shame they had to close their doors.

Hi, I am one of your subscribers and enjoy your videos! 👍 I have a couple questions for you. I noticed on your last truck camper, you used Brophy tie down mounts. Could you give me your insight on them? Also, what are you using to tie this camper down? Thank you, Joe
@TravelswithYoly
@TravelswithYoly 5 жыл бұрын
The Brophy mounts worked perfectly for our relatively lightweight Adventurer 80RB. The dry weight of the camper was around 1,880 and loaded about 2,400 lbs (it only had a 10 gallon fresh water tank as they did that to keep weight down). For a camper in that weight range, I think the Brophy mounts were totally sufficient. If your camper is over 3,000 lbs, I'd get another opinion. We traveled over 9,000 miles with them (GA to Western Canada and back) as well as rough, hilly, rutted narrow forest roads here in Georgia. We never had a single issue with anything on our trips. Mind you, we have a 3/4 ton Ram with a Helwig rear sway bar to keep lean angles to a minimum. However, if you study the videos carefully you will see one additional mod I made to them. Depending on where the attachment points are on the camper, you may need to make similar adjustments. Ideally, the tie downs should be as vertical as possible to keep the camper held down to the bed but most do have some angularity to them. There are 3 kinds of Brophy mounts ... old style that are bolted to the bed, newer ones that locate in the stake pockets and the best ones that use clamps from the underside which makes them much more adjustable which allows them to be mounted further apart and closer to the mounting points on the camper. My problem was that because the camper was an 8 foot box on a 6'-5" inch bed, the camper had about 18 inches of overhang which put the attachment point quite a ways behind the Brophy mount attachment point which resulted in the chain and turnbuckle to be more horizontal than vertical. The Brophy mounts are designed to have the load pulled vertically. Pulling on the mount horizontally cause the mount to twist out of position somewhat. I ran an additional length of chain with smaller turnbuckles between the Brophy mounts and tightened it. Basically, the front mount was pulled forward and the rear mounts were pulled rearward but the connecting chain between them cancelled out these forces so that they pulled against each other and they stayed perfectly aligned. This kept the camper snug in the forward position but much like a motorcycle swingarm, it allowed the rear of the camper to bounce upwards especially on separation joints and rough roads. I took an old short draw bar and had a welder weld a 2 inch square steel tube across it. It was 5 feet long so it didn't stick out anywhere. This went into the stock receiver since it wasn't being used. I used eyebolts on the ends and ran them up to the rear mounts on the camper with additional turnbuckles and chain. These connections pulled down and in on the rear of the camper and the bouncing and rocking was completely eliminated. Both of these modifications were paramount in our success and the total cost was well below 50% of the traditional tie down kits. All of this can be seen in many of Canada Bound 2017 Playlist videos. Our previous Travel Lite 770 had the tie down mounts attached about a foot inward from each corner which really helped with the angularity issue. Most campers have the mounts at the corners however. Our current Eureka camper at 1,600 lbs fully loaded has minimal requirements. We use a simple turnbuckle and short length of chain to attach the camper to the stock bed rings at the bottom corners of the truck bed ...... at the 7:16 minute mark in the above video you can see one very clearly :-) The forward mounts are accessed by little port openings (with removable inserts) on the lower wall of the camper. You can also see the additional eye bolts I added to the rear corners of the camper so that I can use the receiver mount that I made previously .... not because the camper needs it but because I also have a bracket welded to it that I carry my generator gas on.

We wintered in Florida in it last winter and after spending many hours confined to the inside due to the polar vortex freezing temperatures, we decided that it was just a bit small for extended periods inside. We normally spend a lot of time outside the camper during the day and early evening but the weather just didn't permit it. We decided to put it up for sale and wait until we had saved enough to purchase another camper like the one we had previously. A nice couple who pull a horse trailer and travel the country going to horse show events fell in love with the idea of being able to live in the camper at events instead of the horse trailer. Because the horse trailer was so heavy, the hitch weight limited their payload capacity so a regular truck camper was too heavy. Because this one was so light, it fit their application perfectly. We sold it last February and I'd have to guess it's still serving them well. It's definitely a shame that Bill died and the company folded. They had a unique product in a niche market and there was nothing quite like it. You can see videos of our time in it in the Wintering in Florida Playlist as well as many other local camping trips in it here on the channel.

Look at the sticker on the door jam for the rated payload. Add all your gear and passenger weight to the camper weight and see if that number is more or less than the number on the door jam sticker. The V-6 Pentastar engine is the lightest engine in the Ram lineup so it's payload capacity is higher than the larger engines (we've owned 2 of them over the years). If you have a quad cab with 2WD then the payload capacity is about 1800 lbs I believe. A regular cab will have a larger capacity than the quad and a 4WD will have less. I'm pretty sure that you could easily carry one if you didn't load the camper down with too much gear (and weight). As for the engine and drivetrain, no problems whatsoever ..... we pulled a 3500 and 6000 lb travel trailer with ours. However, having the payload at or near its full capacity might require the addition of airbags in the Ram's rear coil springs just to reduce sag and keep the rig level. If you have the factory air-ride, then no problem.

@TravelswithYoly
@TravelswithYoly 4 жыл бұрын
The Ram trucks that we've owned this decade also have had the rear camera in the tailgate. Most truck campers overhang the truck bed, unless you have one of the long 8 foot beds. Tailgates in general are not designed to support the load of a truck camper at the rear so they should be removed anyway. Previously with another Ram and truck camper, I removed the camera from the tailgate and mounted it on a bracket that I made that attached to the license plate mount. It worked well as it just plugged into the original plug in the truck harness. It was quite a bit of work and I chose not to bother with it with our current rig. If we ever have the money to do it, I'd like to install a wireless back up camera on the camper. Ironically, this manufacturer was one of the very few that actually made a 6 foot cabin model made to fit a standard short bed truck and still be able to utilize the tail gate, but as I stated, they are no longer in business.

Is your Dodge a 4x2 or 4x4? I am thinking about going from a Ford F150 4x4 Stepcab to an affordable F250 Regular Cab 4x2. Biggest issue is losing the space and then the 4x4 capability. Appreciate your input.
@TravelswithYoly
@TravelswithYoly 6 жыл бұрын
Our Ram is a 4x2 Crew cab Larry and the cargo space is critical to us. The only downside to a truck camper over the conventional travel trailer is diminished storage space. I have removed the rear seat including the seat belt retractor box from the back wall. I put a piece of plywood down and have a large rectangular open area now to carry our gear. We carry a lot of stuff .... because we can :-) We carry 2 zero gravity lounge chairs, 2 folding chairs, 3 small camp tables, a 10x10 pop-up canopy, a Honda EU2000 and 3 milk crates with levelers, water hose, surge protector etc and depending on the length of the trip, lots of dry foods. We also carry a collapsible Little Giant ladder as a step system to get in and out of the camper. Our first Ram was a regular cab, the others were quad cabs and this 2500 is our first crew cab and we love that. I actually wanted to go back to the 1500 Pentastar V-6 with the Eureka but you can't buy that truck (and engine) with a 6'-4" bed in a crew cab, only quad and regular. That's the reason we decided to stay with the 2500 in spite of the additional fuel costs. Most people with 4x4s never actually drive them off road. They add cost, weight (less payload capacity), complexity and decreased fuel economy. My opinion is that I don't need 4x4 as long as the rear axle has "anti-slip" (or what is also called limited-slip) so that both rear wheels can drive at the same time when one wheel loses traction. The one Ram that we had without it couldn't pull the 6,000 lb travel trailer up our steep driveway because it would only drive one rear wheel at a time. It had "traction control" which applies brake force to the spinning wheel and transfers drive to the other side. In our case, the truck just sat there spinning one wheel and then the other, back and forth. There was no problem with that set up with the previous travel trailer at 3,500 lbs. We go off road if you consider dirt forest roads off road. Dirt and gravel roads are fine with with 2WD :-)

Thanks for your input. We just changed our order from a box to a 24" cabover for additional storage and a possible third person. It did add 200 pounds which reduces my payload margin on our F150. We are discussing our truck options. In our case we plan to sleep using the queen dinette option so the 48" was not needed. Back knees and back precludes much climbing.
@TravelswithYoly
@TravelswithYoly 6 жыл бұрын
The queen dinette is definitely a good option. The cab-over does require some dexterity and effort to access. I worry about Yoly getting down at night if she's half asleep .... it would be very easy to fall. One thing I would mention though is that you should determine the weight of the gear you plan on carrying in the cab-over and talk to Eureka about the physics involved. Ours has a warning label on the edge of the bed extension that says not to occupy the cab-over area while the truck is in motion. I am guessing that it's a weight issue with the integrity of the structure since it's cantilevered off the main structure. Obviously, ours is a 48 inch cab-over so the leverage on the structure is greater than with the 24 inch cab-over. Just something you might want to discuss with Monte (production manager).

We've had 4 campers with the A/C on the roof and 4 with it on one of the walls. The ceiling units are MUCH louder and restrict your overhead clearance much more so. I like the installations where they hang off the side (or back) because the downward tilt of the installation guarantees that no condensate water will ever get into the camper. The roof mounted units have collection trays that drain directly onto the roof but they require maintenance and cleaning or they can clog and saturate the roof material. Pros and cons to everything I guess :-)

Just by coincidence, earlier today I watched a video made by the manufacturers of an Arctic Fox truck bed camper, which commentors said cost $40,000. It had an electric motor on each jack, potable water tank, grey water tank, black water tank, hot water heater, water pump, bathroom sink, toilet, shower, kitchen sink, heater, microwave, stove, refrigerator, two batteries, and a generator. With the propane running the generator, water heater, refrigerator, and the generator charging the batteries, which run the jacks, the lights, and the water pump, the thing was about as complicated as a submarine or space capsule. I don't know how you would ever keep everything working on that. I thought that people went camping to get away from problems and frustration. I was thinking that campers should be simple.

This is our 8th camper .... 4 pull behinds and 4 TCs. We've had ultra simple rigs, moderately equipped rigs and some with all the bells and whistles including slide-outs. That being said, there is much truth to what you say. The more stuff we had, the more issues we had. The less stuff we had, the more reliable. There is more peace of mind and confidence with the basics. Granted creature comforts are nice and there are trade offs, but Yoly and I are fine with less equipped and smaller spaces as long as that space is comfortable :-)

What I realized, whether it is a cabin cruiser boat, a small yacht, a travel trailer, a motor home, a custom van, or a truck bed camper, there are some people, who have money, who have got to have the best of everything because it makes them feel good or they can brag about it. Things that should be irrelevant to the purpose, such as something like marble counter tops or tile floors in a motor home, which they may only use twice in five years because they don't really like "camping", but they enjoy having the best and most expensive motor home that money can buy, parked beside their house. The manufactures know this too, so they make it.

Ours IS simple. 1500 dollars, used. Aluminum, shell ONLY, 700 pounds. With careful planning, our "4 Wheel" camper IS within weight range of a 1/2 ton truck, but just two of us. Almost no camper, can truly be in weight range for their 1/2 ton truck, if you did not know--even though people double that and drive illegally. Our load rating is 1340 pounds, TOTAL. 700 for the shell, two people, average 300 pounds, now you are at--1/2 ton. 340 pounds to go, and that is for any/all gear, any other people (better not) Any fluids, point is, you can go over, very easy. We barely make it--no sink, no fridge, coolers, but empty for the trip, ice em when we get there and so on.

I bought a 1978 truck bed camper for $500 in 2011 to stay in while working in North Dakota. The interior looked great, because a retired couple had bought it when they were in their 50s, and they kept it super clean. There was some structural weakness here and there. I put a brace beam under the roof of the cab over section. I bolted chains to the jack stand connection points, as these were the most solid connections for the truck bed tie downs. Put it on a half-ton 1996 Dodge 1500 4x4, though it weighed about 1,500 to 1,700 lbs. Within a few days I had overload leaf springs installed for $275. Not only did I drive it 750 miles one way, back and forth to Idaho and North Dakota, but I also towed a Jeep wrangler behind it using a tow bar. Did not have too many problems, even going over the Continental Divide in the mountains.

@TravelswithYoly 6 жыл бұрын
I understand that it may be small for some people. This is our 8th camper and some were smaller than this one and some were much bigger. From our experience, bigger isn't always better. If the available space is comfortable and the simplicity of concept makes it more reliable, then there's merit in that. I don't understand what you mean "hate didn't see finished inside" ? As for a bathroom, small truck campers from most manufacturers do not include a bathroom. Of the 4 truck campers we've owned, only one had a bathroom and that rig was more than 3 times the cost of this one and twice as heavy. Having a bathroom requires a built in black tank that then needs a dump station to empty and dump stations can be hard to find in some places. The base unit comes with a Camco 2.2 gallon porta-potti. We opted for one with a 5.3 gallon storage tank that can be easily emptied in any toilet (such as at a rest area) or any vault toilet (like any forestry campground) or a dump station if one is available.

Travels with Yoly I saw them working inside but not the finished work! Oh I went back and saw some of inside ...never mind lol
@TravelswithYoly
@TravelswithYoly 6 жыл бұрын
The TravelLite 770R that we had came with a porta-potti but no wet bath or bathroom. This camper was much bigger and heavier than this one. The Adventurer 80RB that we had did have a wet bath but it was a $32,000 camper. Even then, the black tank only held 5 gallons whereas the porta-potti we have now actually holds 5.3 gallons. Obviously, it would be nice to have "all the things you'd like to have" but sometimes it's not practical for the resources at hand. And like many things in life, there are pros and cons. Carrying the tank a short distance to a toilet is ten times easier than finding a dump station (and in many cases, paying to use it), dragging out and connecting the sewer hose and then cleaning the hose and putting it away again. I doubt we'd ever have more than 20 lbs of waste between dumpings so it's no problem whatsoever for me. In some cases with the built in black tank, we've had to break camp just to drive to the dump station and then come back and set up again. As for the inside, I've been customizing it and making lots of upgrades so stay tuned for the next video with a complete walk-thru of the finished camper :-)

hmmm...only 5 gallons of fresh water? no water pump? a needlessly HUGE a/c unit? no heater? no toilet or shower? over half of the interior appliances provided by the customer? hmmm...i'd really have to think about this one, long and hard.

John, let's not get carried away :-) The 5000 BTU A/C unit is perfectly sized for this space. I have had two previous campers that were smaller and yet came equipped with the same unit. The unit does come with a toilet ... we chose to provide our own because we wanted a larger black tank. They gave us a credit for each item we chose to upgrade on our own, such as the fridge, toilet, table and couch/bed cushions. The base unit comes with a fridge, microwave and toilet so in fact, all of the interior appliances are included. You can get a shower as an option from the manufacturer. The fresh water tank as supplied is actually 6 gallons .... I just doubled it to 12 gallons by purchasing a second tank for $13. This is a larger capacity than our previous $30K truck camper :-) You are correct about the absence of a heater. We don't winter camp but have camped in the back of our truck previously for years in a 28 degree rated double sleeping bag in temps down to 34 degrees and been comfortable. If we find we absolutely need a heat source, then one can easily be added. This is our 8th camper and 4th truck camper. We've traveled over 100,000 miles since retiring and from our experience, this little camper gives the best bang for the buck that we can find. Check the channel again tomorrow ..... I'll be uploading a new video tonight that includes our Phase 2 upgrades including a pressurized water system with outdoor shower. The camper is finished now and is quite comfortable and functional for both RV parks and off-grid. All for a fraction over $10K. Please check out the video following this one (see link below the video) or click the box in the upper right hand corner of the screen at the 42 second mark (Phase 1 of the upgrades).

We had previously owned much heavier truck campers. The truck actually has nothing to do with how much this camper weighs which is the topic of this video.

How can it weight that much but nice job.

1220 lbs is not heavy for any hard sided truck camper. Most others weigh around 1700 to 1800 lbs for the lightest ones in the marketplace. We've owned 5 so we kinda know what we're talking about.

Could you please recommend the best truck for a 2013 Livin' Lite / Camp Lite CLTC10, 2,190 lbs/ slide in truck camper? Brochure requires a 3/4 ton (or higher) 8 foot bed and I’m partial to dually as the back end squats with full tanks. I would very much appreciate any help from anyone in the know. Thank you so much.

Most small truck campers do not have a "washroom". It does however come with a porti-potti that has a 2 gallon black tank. We opted to get one with a 5.3 gallon tank.

@TravelswithYoly
@TravelswithYoly 6 жыл бұрын
Well David, the price is quite variable due to the available customization. We chose to eliminate some of the standard options for a credit while adding several additional options that aren't standard at an additional expense. Our price is not likely the same as someone else's. That being said, I do discuss the price of the base unit as well as much more detail in the description below the video ... far too much information there to include in the actual video so please click on "Show More" for the information you're looking for :-)

People want everything in the world on their RVs. I go camping to get away from all that stuff. You build something simple and easy to maintain and not enough people want it.

People are usually different from each other and we all have different tastes, desires and needs. I also think that there are pros and cons to everything in life and we all have to decide for ourselves what works or not for us. I like simplicity and overkill when it comes to construction but I also like some level of creature comforts. In my youth I was perfectly happy motorcycle camping and sleeping on the ground in a sleeping bag but now in my 70s I find my desires have changed just a bit :-)

Says custom made but seems too long for the bed and too short for the roof!
@TravelswithYoly

Seems you don't know a lot about truck campers Milton. The cabin is 8 feet and this is one of the most common sizes in the industry. They are ALL made specifically for a conventional 8 foot & 6' - 5" in bed .... nothing unusual there at all. If you look at truck campers, many of them extend beyond the bed. The cabover is the size it is because that's the way the manufacturer makes them. Can you tell me "why it is too short" ?
