In this video, Chuck goes over the time and cost of cutting our own leather for lace, versus buying lace already cut. Cutting lace is quick and easy if you have a lace cutter, plus you get the benefit of choosing your leather, your weight and your lace thickness. You can't beat that!

I loved the concept of the round lace cutter when I furst discovered it, and I use a lot of lace for braiding. The one you used in the video is the one I have, and I have many issues with it. It breaks easily, the blade isn't as secure as I want it to be, and the plastic wears off after a while, forcing you to replace the tool entirely. It's also often a pain to start the cut unless you use a new blade every time, and I can't find the sort of blade it uses easily in my area. So I've got a 3D printer and I'm currently working on a more robust tool design, with more thickness and width options, and I also make it take standard break-off blades as I find them more readily availabe.

I picked up the small handheld lace cutter. Works great for 3/4oz suede but not so well on 2oz suede or 9/10 vegtan though I did not expect it to work on either of them so it was really just testing its abilities. Personally, I love it! Works great for making lace from the same suede Im using to make moccasins so it all matches.

I'm behind on the videos, so I didn't see this one until after I ordered my lace cutter, which is scheduled to arrive arrive today. More irony is that I was planning to use some water buffalo that I have for this new tool. I already have the little lace cutter, but I have yet to get the hang of it, and the short lengths I get from it don't justify the frustration. I have tried the double loop method using lace from remnant bags, and I can't wait to do something with results worth sharing on the fan page. Thanks again Chuck for another great video. This new tool will be crucial for my all leather projects that will use lace versus thread. Anxiously waiting for FedEx to get here.

Needed lace for a project and picked up a lace cutter with my last order. Started watching lace making videos and this one for tips. Then, I realized something was burning in my kitchen. Thought my elderly mother was burning down the house, but it turns out it was my husband forgetting he was making lunch. Guess I'll find videos on how to save a charred pot. 😵‍💫

A week ago I've seen the round-lace-tool in a video you made a few years ago. The same evening I ordered it and tried it on a piece of scrap. Honestly, I like it. I just have some problems with the handling, but that is because I used a quite thin and subtle piece of goat hide. So that's most likely the leather. Does anyone have tips regarding the consistency of the lace width with this tool? Sometimes it shifts a bit and goes thinner than I'd like.

I need to know how to sew two straps of leather together that will be bent, as in the poll of a horse bridle. The bend messes up my chisel hole alignment. Sewing flat and then bending causes ugly surface tension in the bridle.

Thanks for your video's, how would you go about cutting very straight lace from thinner leather?

The leather lace stopper at 5:13 mark in your video, can you put a 2 oz leather (softer and thinner than 4 oz) through that tool?

Thinner leathers shouldn’t be an issue, but new or sharp blades are absolutely necessary. It will help if you cut a wider piece than needed since the strap you’re pulling through may wag a bit left or right. A good 3” or 4” of leader (beyond what you need in length) would give you room to get the strap to “sit down” on the blades. Make sure you keep the strap taught by pulling on both ends as you pass the strap through the stripper as opposed to just pulling it from one end.(you’ll get the hang of that once you do it a few times).

You forgot to add colors in making your own lace. About six months ago I had to make a “PINK” child’s heart shaped pocket book and die it “PINK”. Try and find PINK Fiebing Pro Dye! The only way way to get the color and shade of PINK is to bye RED Pro Dye and reduce the color to the shade of Pink you need. Now let’s throw Lace into that picture. You would have to dye the leather the color to make the Pink Pocket Book and cut your own lace. Try to figure out how much that would cost if you had Weaver Leather do that for you! Best regards, Richard 9:26

I purchased one of these lace cutters....used it a handful of times and the mount broke right in half. The pot metal this cutter is made out of is terrible!!! I was only pulling 2 oz leather through it when it broke. I called Weaver's customer support. They indicated they had a good number of issues with the metal breaking. They were kind enough to refunded my money. The quality control in the manufacturing of this product is truly lacking...but that is a Chinese made product for you. Cheers

There is no good equipment in the country where I live. I make small things from leather. Check out your channel. Gain a lot of knowledge. But equipment is scarce. There is not even a shop to buy in the country. We are restricted from importing. I would like to buy some good equipment. Create leather designs.
