Damn... i don't have a legacy story... i bought an OB because i had kids in car seats and wanted the wagon for hauling crap... now that they're older, i was thinking my next car should be the Legacy.... guess not... I do like the extra ground clearance of the OB... maybe i'll look at a used legacy and a lift kit....

the last legacy was around 2015 new only the touring in 2012 no sedan from 2012-2015 this was the end of the legacy in the Netherlands. Only the XV(crosstrek in the USA) Forester and Outback the Impreza last model 2012 came back around 2017-2020

I love my 2001 Subaru Legacy GT Limited 5MT; it was the first Subaru to come into our family. In 2002, my father and I found ourselves at Subaru of Santa Monica in California and he asked me what car I liked. I saw the Legacy with the spoiler and said, "that one." He ended up buying it. My step mother & both of my Aunts loved it so much that they all got Foresters. In 2006, my father ended up giving the Legacy to me. I lost him in 2021, so the car has so much sentimental value to me.

My mother is giving me her 2001 Subaru Liberty (Legacy in the US) sedan 2.5 RX. Kept in a garage, 54k km on the clock, serviced yearly. I really like it, but everyone around me is telling me the head gasket will go and to get rid of it as it will cost upwards of $2000 to replace it, while the car itself is only worth $6000. Not sure if you can put a dollar figure on a car this well kept though, nor how this business with the head gasket works and whether it is something to be concerned about.

My first car is a 98 legacy wagon, I purchased right after I graduated from high school for 500$ off from an old man. It has about 210k miles on the clock and I love that car, gets me from point A to B and lasted me about 2 years and never gave me any issue till I got hit by a car cross the red light and total it. After this accident makes me want to stick with another legacy, and I bought the fifth gen H6 Ez36 legacy off from a really nice old lady. It has about 60k miles and she took care of it, and this is the car that I start to learn how to work on the car and makes me enjoy the subaru car community, and I found your video when I start to learn to do the maintenance and become your subscriber because non of the people will do the video for the EZ36 at that time! This year marks the 8 years of ownership, I've been drive the car since I was in college and I still drive this car with about 140k miles. It's really sad that subaru discontinue the legacy, but as you said the legacy is a legendary car and will live on forever.

I purchased a one owner 2000 Legacy Outback sedan for our son's first car. He was seventeen and we sold it after he had turned twenty-five. It got him through high school, college, and his first real paying job. Other than routine maintenance and a few niggling parts here and there, it was trouble-free. Because it was a dark forest green color, we nicknamed it "Dundee" after the Paul Hogan movies, "Crocodile Dundee". The buyers of Dundee had twin sixteen year old girls who would share the car. Dundee is a real trooper because we still see it on the road in our home town. As a result of owning Dundee and given how reliable the car was, our family has since purchased nine new Subarus.

The Legacy was also a tech showcase for Subaru and the build quality was phenomenal even compared to the top Japanese manufacturers at the time. The EJ engine itself was ahead of most mainstream budget options in tech. It's really a shame that people are now obsessed with riding up high and having way more room than they need.

I owned a 2010 Legacy GT up here in Canada. It had a 2.5 L Turbo 267 HP with a 6 speed MT and only came one way....fully loaded. Except for replacing ignition coils, muffler system and the clutch, and some tires, it was a great car. I recently sold it and bought a 2024 Subaru WRX Sport Tech model. It should be noted, that the Legacy GT with MT was only made in 2010 and 2011 If they had made a Legacy with a 6SP MT, I would have certainly bought another one. It was a truly great car!

I think my 2008 Legacy was the last body style that still had frameless windows on all 4 doors. It looks so weird if you open all 4 doors with the windows down. I still have it. The hood line was also the lowest around at the time because all other vehicles were already elevating their hoods and belt lines due to pedestrian safety regulations.

I have a 2015 Legacy 2.5 6th gen. It was a company car and my first Subaru; purchased it when it came off lease. Currently has 256k miles and I've put nearly all the miles on it. I've deemed it the "Road Warrior" because we've covered so many miles for work. It's proven to be a very reliable vehicle, that with the help of your channel is very easy to work on for those jobs I don't want to pay the dealer to perform. One of my favorite characteristics of my Subaru is how well it performs in the snow and ice. In the rare instances that we get that kind of weather in north Texas, I'm out and about just driving on like normal while jacked up trucks are tip toeing around. It's the one time I can actually flex on them.

We have a 2020 Legacy Limited. Bought it Certified Preowned with 2 yrs and 2,040 miles on it - it had been a Pandemic lease. Our Gold Plan covered the Amplifier replacement, and the window channel guides, and we also had a cracked windshield. We are very happy with it and I would buy another Legacy (if it was an XT), but prefer my '21 Outback, which IS an XT.

The first new car I ever purchased was a black 2000 Legacy GT. I drove it for 20 years and 332,000 miles before donating it to charity. It was a great car and fun to drive. It had gray cloth seats and the simulated walnut trim, automatic transmission. I did the head gaskets, timing belt, and water pump once each in all that time, never had a transmission problem. The car was rock solid and never let me down. I finally purchased a new Legacy in 2018, but it took me two more years before I could part with the old 2000. The 2018 has more modern features, and I’ve driven it 40,000 miles with zero problems, so I’ll probably just keep it running as long as I can. I’m sad to see the Legacy go.

97 Legacy GT with EJ25D. bought it used from a friend who taught me to work on Subaru's. Drove it from Idaho where I purchased it; drove to Colorado Springs. Originally picked it up for my son. One year later drove it to Leavenworth, KS and finally after several years and teaching my son how to drive a manual, drove it Maryland. As he grew older, he fell out of love with it. I kept it. Spun a bearing in MD.....argh. Original EJ25D replaced with a hybrid EJ22 mated to the EJ25D heads. Love the car. Still driving it today. Fast forward and I acquired a 99 Legacy GT Wagon with a blown EJ25D that I bought for $600. Working to get another EJ22D hybrid built. She will see the road again. Such great cars. Classics.

Sad to see them go. My first Legacy (4th Subaru) was an 08 LGT in deep bronze and a manual. At the time, I roadraced with a prepared Honda CRX and when the season was too early or late for Hoosier race tires where it might have snow on the sides of the track, I'd run the LGT where I was instructing. The other 2 we got were for the wife with a 17 Limited and then one from my mom who I helped pick out with her at the dealer new. Mom's realized she's no longer able to drive so gave the 18 Premium to us and the wife is driving it. I might pick up a 25 sport to get the turbo 2.4 before they go. We'll see.

My first 'roo was a 1987 GL Wagon (EA82) followed by a 1993 Loyale Sedan. (Also EA82 - best part there is the engines were virtually identical.) The wagon ran for 250,000 miles (until about 2000) when my wife was involved in an accident, the fuel line ruptured and the car caught fire - literally 2 months after I had pulled the engine and replaced all the gaskets and seals 😮 I kept the Loyale until 2013, when I accepted a job the was a 90 mile round trip to and from. With 340,000 miles and parts getting harder to source, I traded it in for a gently used 2007 Outback. I'm still driving that one, with 335,000 miles still going strong (with Robert's "help" via his videos, I replaced the timing chains 18 months ago.)

Currently own a 2013 Legacy I bought used in 2020. Had 56K at the time (now has close to 119k). It's our third Subaru (the first was a 2002 WRX bought new in 2001 and a 2008 WRX, also bought new). Unfortunately, I did not do my home homework before I bought the Legacy. I have an oil consumption issue. Have also had several issues with sensors going out, and had the cam carrier seals go bad shortly after I bought it. I still have the car and plan on keeping it for a while, but it did put me off on wanting another Subaru (unless it's a WRX, of course ). We now have two Toyotas, one with 270K miles on the ODO and NO issues. My Legacy will be replaced with a Camry when I replace it.

We bought a 1st gen 94 2.2L EJ Legacy L sedan that was used with love well before we got it. As my first time in a Subaru i was blown away by how pleasant the driving experience was. I dont know if it was the comfortable seats or the smooth suspension but everything i had driven before this felt like garbage. i'm about as old as that car too but it didn't take long for me to become a fan of its weird yet practical features. Today, i daily an unmolested 08 narrowbody WRX sedan with just bigger tires to enjoy the hillside wavy roads of VA. Ironically, I've never blown up a subaru but I've had several times when life just didn't want me to have a Subaru. Had a giant tree branch fall on the windshield and hood of that aforementioned Legacy, someone ran a red light and totaled my 05 impreza, worked on and sold an 04 impreza that got wreck by that guy. and if something happens to my current WRX, i'll get another subaru! 🤣

July 2021 I bought an '09 with 135k miles. It was not in great shape. I have an 88 mile commute. 17 miles mountan road, 71 miles freeway, 3x a week. I learned how to work on it watching MrSubaru videos. What a fun car to drive and work on! Seriously, it has been so satifying to fix the problems it had before I purchased it and to address normal age/maintanace issues. Unfortunately at 210k its got a rattle that I thought was rod knock, (I inspected the bottom end, no loose bearings, and no metal in the oil or pan). Maybe its piston slap, but is not smoking or burning oil. (It is seeping oil from the head gaskets). The rattling sound is "tinny" or "ringing" like hitting sheet metal with a box wrench. Which makes me wonder if it is a broken or loose flywheel. I don't have time to pull the engine and do a complete rebuild. So now I think it is destine for scrap or as someone elses project car. Now I'm driving a 13 year old Outback. Having a hard time letting go of the Legacy.

my family had a gen 2 legacy when i was young and it was a brief moment in the sun followed by a sea of terrible cars (buick rendezvous, kia rio, buick le sabre etc). i loved it right up until the point when my parents didnt stop for it overheating on a bridge (some radiator issue its been too long to remember now) and drove it til the end and siezed the engine. they sold it after that and i miss it every day. now we have a 2008 outback 2.5xt and its a real return to form for our car luck.

My family has owned many Legacy and Legacy Outback vehicles. I actually learned to drive in a stick shift Loyale, but the first car that was "mine" to drive was a sky blue 1992 Legacy wagon, stick shift AWD with the EJ22. Unfortunately I had an accident in the vehicle and it flipped over on its side in a ditch. When the tow company pulled it out, they said it started, but smoke like crazy, and the engine was done. We realized it was probably just that oil had collected in cylinders while it was on its side. We bought it back from the junkyard, it fired right up, and we drove it home. My dad was going to fix the damage, but the clutch went out shortly after, and sadly it was deemed not worth fixing anymore. Great car though. Also my sister's first daily driver. She and her friends called it "Super Blue" the Subaru. My friend Kyle also borrowed it for a while when his car was down, and sadly he was part of the demise of the clutch, hahaha. My sister ended up getting an early 90s Legacy sedan, maroon, FWD, which she drove around for a while. This was around 2012 too, so it was no spring chicken. She drove it across the country, over the Rocky Mountains, and around California for a while before it was retired due to their stringent laws and her inability to fix it herself or on a budget. It was Problem free otherwise and even survived a moose hit. Great looking car in the deep sort of burgundy color. I now have a 1991 Legacy wagon I bought for $100. It has 342,000 miles and runs and drives great other than now needing brake lines and some other repairs. A bit rusty, but solid. It has an EJ22 and I'm going to install a twin scroll turbo setup from a mid 2000s JDM Legacy GT on it and run low boost. The first car I owned personally was a 1996 Impreza AWD with the EJ22, but I have a real soft spot for the Legacy. I almost bought a 1994 red stick shift turbo sedan for $2200 a few years back, but it was in Philadelphia. It was a bit too far and I was a bit too broke, but I'll always regret not getting that one.

My first Subaru is actually the gen 5 2010 Legacy 2.0i...also my first AWD vehicle ever own now, and she had me totally blown away with the handling in dry and wet conditions, compared to any other front wheel drive vehicles that I've owned. No sweat if the Legacy has finally pulled the plug as we still have the outback which still retains the Legacy's DNA! But still sad to hear the news... 😞

I had a 1989 Legacy RS and I miss that thing like crazy. I ended up removing the engine and dropped a friends 98 Sti engine in it because he got rear ended. The TDO5H turbo was definitely a step up from the VF8. I just wished I could've kept the legacys cooling system for the turbo as they were hands down some of the best but the pumps kept shitting out. I put a 3inch straight through exhaust and maaan that thing was quick and damn loud 😂

Have a 91 Legacy Sport Sedan with the 22T and a 5 spd. Always wanted one since they came out and finally got one in 2006. Had to fly to Washington state to get it and drive back to Kansas City. Met a Subaru tech who was into the older cars and he ended up getting one with a 5 spd also. He's still a good friend. Collect all I can find on the 100,000 kilometer world record they set with the first gen Legacy.

I owned a 1994 Legacy L sedan. Bought it used from a former Subaru salesperson, it had 58,700 miles on it when I bought it. He'd added a few options but it was his family car until he had a third kid. I drove that car everywhere. Had the head gasket issue on the 2.2L EJ engine, had it fixed. Eventually drove it to 200,000 miles when the transmission and clutch (it was a 5-speed manual) detonated simultaneously. Donated it to a local charity. I'm now driving a 2023 Crosstrek base model with the 6-speed manual from the WRX. It's perfect for what I need these days, tho I miss the simplicity and lack of drama from my Legacy.

My wife has a 2016 Legacy Ltd with 2.5 engine. She bought it new after trading her 2001 Outback Sedan Ltd with just 52K miles over the 14 years she owned it. She wanted another Outback Sedan, but Subaru discontinued them and she was so disappointed. But reluctantly, she bought the new 2016 Legacy even though it had lower ride height than her beloved Outback sedan. Well, she loved her new Legacy and keeps it in pristine condition in our garage with just over 18K original miles since new. I keep it on a battery tender and she drives it once in a while since we usually take my 2023 Outback Onyx since it sits outside the garage. Since she has owned that Legacy, I am on my third Outback since 2016. I only drive the Legacy when it's time for service at the Subaru dealer. That Legacy is a sweet driving car when I take it in for service every six months or so. I am a stickler for service and keep detailed service records on both our Subarus. With just 18K miles on that Legacy, I doubt we will ever trade that in as it is still like new and stays off the salt covered winter roads here in New England. My Outback, that is the family "truckster" and the one we take everywhere and will keep replacing when we wear it out. When I told my wife that Subaru will discontinue the Legacy after 2025, her comment was "that sucks, what Subaru will I ever want to buy now?" My sweet wife was upset (pissed off) when Subaru discontinued the Outback sedans and now the Legacy... She has been a Subaru owner for over 25 years.

I recently bought a 2017 Legacy Premium with 76000 miles on it. Great Car! First thing I did was brought it to the local Subaru dealership and had the CVT and the F and R diffs drained and refilled. I also have a 2017 Outback Premium I bought new. The Legacy feels 'different' because it sits lower to the ground, and it sounds somewhat different, probably due to the fact it's closer to the pavement. The mileage is excellent - the Outback is very good, but the Legacy gets 5 to 7 mpg more on the highway, which is awesome! Subaru's are great cars. I'm tempted to look at a 2025 while they're still available - then again maybe I'll wait and find a low mileage used one in a year or two.

My old 3.0r from 2009 was perhaps the best car I’ve ever had. Unfortunately, got rid of it due to pesky electrical issues I couldn’t afford to fix at the time. Had the superior VTD awd system with the planetary center diff that was slightly rear-biased. It just handled fantastic and would kick out the rear end while hooning in the snow. Smooth power band, incredible sound, and fantastic handling. Trucked through 16” of powder here in Utah on my way to go snowboarding without blinking. Remember being the only car that made it one day up the mountain and all the truck owners were shocked. The EZ30 engine is like a mini Porsche (mounted up front, of course). There was a rumor that the heads and cams were co-developed in Stugart but I cannot confirm that. Honestly sounded like my brother’s old Cayman. Pulled well up in the high rev range and the paddle shifters were column mounted like a proper sports car. Definitely not fast by today’s standards but felt incredible compared to my newer 2.0 Impreza Sport, lol. Subaru has really deviated from sports cars and the old Legacy GTs and 3.0rs were like a gentleman’s WRX.

I drove the ‘06 Legacy wagon for many years. I added lowering coils and aftermarket sway bars which made it look good and added some fun to the handling. Head gaskets failed and replaced at the dealer at 120K. Those failed within inches of their warranty. An independent shop did them again with no problems until I sold it at 190K. I’m now in a 2018 Outback. Much better fuel economy and efficient space to haul toys etc. In a word it’s functional. Not flashy, not fun. The buying public is fickle. I feel sympathy for any manufacturer trying to predict trends, much less keep pace with them.

Our first car right after getting married was a 1991 Legacy with front wheel drive. At the time, it was about $2k cheaper in this configuration than the comparable Accord or Camry. Had the motorized shoulder belts that were "handed" to you as the front doors were opened. Brought our first child home from the hospital in that car a few years later. Sold it to a cousin after 100K trouble free miles, and she got at least another 100k out of it. Still have a 2012 Legacy in the fleet; I'm convined that many of the components such as wheel bearings, ball joints, struts, exhaust, etc. (not to mention the transmission) are nowhere near as durable in the newer ones.

Bought a 2018 Legacy 3.6. Had a Forester and an Impreza Outback Sport previously but after many years of driving 4 cylinder vehicles with just adequate power, I wanted something faster. I am a bit disappointed that it could not be bought with a manual transmission which I had in my other Subarus and the 4 Saabs I had before them. But I have no problem with the CVT that mimics a regular 6 speed auto and that others complain about. After 6 years, I have only put 26.000 miles on it because I now work at home. It is still all original except for the battery. Just change the oil and the brake fluid and inspect everything. The only problems were with the electronics and they were fixed under warranty. It handles surprisingly well. It seems to have stiffer shocks than the 2.5 I tried out and it has larger, lower profile tires. I love it, but sometimes I wish I had bought an Outback because I do need to haul things occasionally.
