I used to work at the casino in Adelaide... got asked to cover the premium rooms and got really good feedback... they asked me to come back and cover them a bunch of times... I was keen cos the tips were amazing... one time I was talking to one of the regulars and she broke down and told me that she was spending all her money at the high limit pokies just so she didn't lose access to the room and that her kids had cut ties with her because of her gambling.... I reported it as a welfare check cos we were trained to do that.... I never got asked back to premium again after that - how bizarre, right? 🙄

@Kronin The club has a responsibility for it's customers, it does not have a right to exploit problem gamblers. By punishing and removing a room attendant that does the right thing to both look after people and as the law requires is blatant non-compliance with gambling laws. Said club not only did the objectiviely wrong thing in their endless pursuit of profit even justifying life ruining exploitation, they need to be shut down and it's owners jailed. Or what, do you think seeking profit is a justification for literally anything? That'd be messed up, and also completely wrong.

This man is an actual, literal hero. Consider this, too. While money laundering is obviously rampant, this is likely one of the least damaging aspects of poker machines. It's damaging society itself, both at a local and national level. For example. Think about how great, and in fact large, the club and hospitality industry was in the 90s if you can still remember back that far, especially in Adelaide. An actual industry, employing thousands, and reaching far outside vanues with music production, label distribution, street magazines, performance arts, record shops, etc, etc. It was a true industry. Poker machines killed that off in less than 12 months. Adelaide, for example, is now basically a ghost town. I can't even imagine the amount of money that has been lost because of this, both from a media industry point of view, and tourism. We used to get busloads of Melbourne ravers rolling up here every week to go to places like Le Rox. All dead. Gone. Nothing here now but tumbleweeds and broken gambling zombies staggering out of venues at 2am in the morning. Also, suicide. How come there hasn't been any published research into gambling associated suicide in Australia? Just how much does it actually cost us? Nobody knows, and those who want to find out, get stomped. That there isn't a royal commission into all this is astounding.

I rather have more cash transactions though. There are benefits to informal transactions, perhaps kids can buy sweets without parental interference, or the poor can buy oranges from a farmer at a lower price. Dirty money is also good as it allows people who are dire situations to get assets to start living.

I'm sure I'm not alone here as one of countless kids who had their early life ruined by a problem gambler parent. Shit needs to be dealt with sooner or later, even something like a non-reversible self-ban would help. Everytime my mum banned herseld she'd last like 2 weeks and simply un-ban herself starting all over again.

This is shocking how these Casino Boards Arsholes can use the Courts to shut the truth down. They use all manner of acts of Terrorism and get away with it, as they can afford high paying lawyers and the courts to do their dirty work. Yet the Government is supposed to provide protection for the communities against these self serving businesses who don't give a damn about the communities in which they are pray on. There is huge gambling problems within so many communities in so many countries. Yet why Governments close their eyes is unfathomable. It is an addiction for many and a source for criminal activity. To deny this is having your head in the sand. I suppose why should anything be really any different money can buy anything can't it, but the truth?????

Wow, reminds me of the private prisons here in Vic. I don't know how they stand now as it has been years, but back a few years ago I knew someone who worked in one that was sextually assaulted by another staffer. She reported it nearly immediately but the prison managers harassed all witnesses into silence and covered up evidence. The Police were forced to drop the case and she was left with severe mental trauma. She tried at the very least to get onto workers compensation but the damned fought tooth an nail to not get her on. But PTSD was evident to the doctors so they had to give her money. Luckily she is doing much better now but she was never the same after that...
