You can start with Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure without problem and then continue with Trails of Cold Steel 3 and 4. You will understand everything, the problem is more about the emotional impact with the reappearance of old characters than a real difficulty to understand the story

I don’t think it’s a prequel, judging by Fie’s design, Agnes who we met in Cold Steel III, them mentioning the Arcus and combat links in the demo/game - which only was introduced in the first Cold Steel arc, there’s no way this is a prequel.

Possibly? From what I'm seeing other people say about it is that you theoretically could start here. You'll be missing callbacks to the previous arcs, but you'll still be able to understand what's happening in the story. The sky trilogy will probably always be considered the best place to start if you're interested in trails, but I don't think they're on switch.

@Night-ec7ef reverie is the only one between these two. Lloyd's games released before cs1 and take place during cs1 and 2. They didnt make it to the states until last year though...but theyre like 10 years old at this point. Reverie in a lot of ways is cs5 but also Lloyd's (Crossbell) 3. With emphasis on Llyod.

Start with the Sky Trilogy (Sky FC, Sky SC & 3rd) which is on Steam, then the Crossbell duology (Zero & Azure) which is on Steam/PS4/Switch and then the Cold Steel Tetralogy (CS1-CS4 are all on Steam/PS4, CS3-CS4 are on Switch), then there's Reverie to cap off the latter arc and then move into Daybreak and its sequels

The legend of heroes is the main series that Falcom started back in 1989. It currently has 3 different subseries, which all have their own lore / story. Games 1 & 2 are in the Dragon Slayer series. Games 3 - 5 are in the Gagharv series. Games 6 - 18 are in the Trails series. (Yes, the plots of all 13 of these games are connected, with this title being the 11th title.)

It has both a Turn Based & Action RPG modes. Here I'll do this for help. The game's combat system is divided into two modes: real-time action battles similar to Falcom's Ys series and traditional turn-based combat featured in the series' past. The game encourages the player to use both modes, which can be freely switched between outside of boss fights, which are exclusively turn-based
