The comment about consequences being down the line is SO on the money! As much as the first two episodes seems quick paced and concise, it sets up a LOT for future events which we may not see immediately. Can't wait for you guys to witness them!

Fun fact: The smut book in Gilmore's shop - "Tusk Love" - is a reference to Campaign 2. The characters go shopping at a bookstore and Laura's character Jester buys that book and they encounter it multiple times throughout the campaign lol.

I think there are 2 major things that make a story based on an actual D&D campaign incredibly special compared to a completely scripted story. 1. The depth and complexity of every main character. As the crew of the show pointed out, each member of the main party was a PC and therefore effectively had a writer entirely dedicated to that one character's actions, motivations, and development. It means that none of the main characters feel like they're secondary or passed over because they are literally each a main protagonist given the time, attention, and care that a main protagonist requires. 2. Spontaneity. This story, while generally directed by the GM (one of the absolute greatest of all time), was not scripted. The original "writers" of the main characters, nor the secondary characters and antagonists, knew what the other protagonists were going to do. Add in the fact that many key events are literally determined by the roll of the dice and it creates a story that is less predictable and feels more organic than one that was completely scripted. Of course this is an adaptation of the original campaign, so the creative team has license to change things here and there to streamline narrative flow and fit the pacing and time constraints of an animated TV show, and the DM does have the ability to reign in certain things to keep the story coherent and moving forward. But the nuts and bolts, the major plot elements and pivotal decisions, the character development, all benefit from the chaos that is a TTRPG.

Very nice. The first two episodes are based upon the game before they started streaming. The Krieg story was referenced in the stream, but we got no clear details so even fans are experiencing this for the first time. Keep it up. You two are going to love this. Thanks for your thoughts.

Campaign 3 has a TON of spoilers for campaign 1. It's safer to watch campaign 2, but there are still references that they make (the cast talk to each other out of character all the time) about campaign 1. I watched the campaigns out of order so I ran into a few spoilers. I'm not sure how much smut will be in later episodes. Things got a bit less silly at around this part of the campaign. But who knows. This version isn't an exact copy of the live stream. Maybe they'll add it in where it makes sense.

​@@markpayne8004 ​Spoilers warning for anyone who hasn't seen C1: Scanlan didn't have much time during the Briarwood arc to get up to much more than aggressive flirting and innuendo. Then he found out about Kaylie after they got back to Emon and that kicked off a shift in his behavior. There were lots of references to things that happened before they started streaming, but I don't remember Scanlan getting laid a single time after the Briarwood arc starts. Honestly, I'm hoping they add in stuff he might have gotten up to during their downtime episodes.

To get into the full game versions you can find the podcasts that you can listen to when traveling or working. If you find an episode you are really fond of it is worth a rewatch on KZbin to catch all the facial expressions and subtle context that is not always audible. Unexplained laughter is one of the tip offs to something you want to see. Sam has a HUGE drinking stein that he tapes funny things to the bottom and he also starts wearing T-shirts with funny stills of Matt Mercer's face printed on them. He will let the game get started and then take the long sleeved shirt off to reveal the T-shirt and everybody dissolves into giggles while Matt say's "Fuck you Sam". If you don't watch any other of the videos you should find the ones done for live audiences. They are all spectacular and hearing 5,000+ people sing the intro to the show is awesome.

The Kickstarter campaign was for the 2 episodes you've just watched - they wanted to do a short movie / hour show with Brimstone (the dragon). However, the goal of £750k was obliterated by fans, and the £11 million they raised was enough to do a whole series - letting them have the opportunity to do Brimstone AND the Briarwood Arc - one of the most loved arcs in the entire franchise.
