This game suffers from the Wind Walker and Majoras Mask syndrome. Where when it is released most people hate it. But after a few years go by, you notice that it really stood the test of time. Most people at Gamespot hate this game (They hate every Zelda game) But they suffer from the Zero Punctuation syndrome, where it is cool to hate video games.

Probably one of the most underrated Zelda games in all honesty. It has one of my favourite soundtracks and my favourite depiction of Zelda as a character. The whole idea of her possessing Phantoms was so cool.

After finishing Breath of the Wild I purchased Spirit Tracks and Phantom Hourglass for my old DSiXL. So far these are great Zelda titles that deserves more credit. They definitely bring the fun factor . With a Zelda game touch. If they decide to port an updated version to the Switch they would sell like crazy.

Im a pretty big fan of the series, and im getting sick of all the diehard fanboys hating this game. Of coarse its not the best but its a great game in its own right and while i really dont think of it as one of my favorites, its a great handheld experience. Thats another thing, this is handheld. This is awsome for a handheld game! This was the closest it got to console quality at the time. Id say it was just as good when it came out, as the gameboy titles when they came out. Of coarse now that we have the 3ds titles, theyre better. But if you judged links awakening considering when it was released, why not this and phantom hour glass?

Spirit Tracks was my first LOZ game. I instantly fell in love, I mean, it was hard not to! But it made me sad later on, when I played others (like Twilight Princess and Wind Waker) and found the lack of Zelda's presence overall. She was by your side constantly in SP, and I find the distance between Link and the other incarnations of Zelda heart-breaking!

I also understand pacing and timing in music. I used to play a /flute/, which is a real wind instrument. Trying to blow into a mic which had a lot of trouble registering it is not a proper instrument that works well. What the mic did was stutter when I blew a steady stream into it. Due to the way it was programmed, it registered this as me trying to play the note several times in a second. It became impossible.

I'm so done with big game review conglomerates overlooking huge errors. When you're talking about Majora's Mask, Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, and Link to the Past, saying this game is even close to in the running for being among greatest Zeldas is insulting. This is a series I hold very dear, and these games are ok at best. They discourage exploration and blatantly shoehorn DS features into the gameplay for no good reason. I don't want to be screaming at the top of my lungs in public or blowing my DS until my lungs explode. The worst is having to return to the exact same temple time and time again. Nothing kills the feeling of beating a good temple like having to solve a bland and uninteresting temple you've already solved 6 times. The puzzles are gimmicky and unrewarding and don't come close to the other games in the series. Zelda is a titanic franchise. I really don't think these conglomerates get the sheer magnitude of some franchises. I swear, IGN and these other companies must get paid under the table by every game developer in the industry, because they never say anything bad about anything, and give ridiculous ratings like 9+ for a 5 game at best. 9+ is near flawless, it has to be absolute gold to get that kind of rating. Nowadays people throw 9s and 10s about like they're handing out spoons of peanut butter at the puppet show for the local psychiatric ward.

It's the first zelda game ive ever played and what finally enticed me into playing this series was the prospect of teaming up with zelda herself and the idea of her controlling suits of armor. To this day the only zelda companion that comes close to topping zelda herself is midna and no other game in the series had such a unique and interesting mechanic in my eyes.

Do you have to walk with the touchpad in this game? Nowadays with consoles that involve interaction in the gameplay like the wii and ds, we're seeing a complete lack of button use. I love the idea of using the touchscreen for things like the flute and boomerang, and even zelda's ghost thingy-ma-jig, however 25 hours of touchscreen movement and attacking puts me off the game entirely. I love the themes in this game, but... optional directional buttons, please?

Why not? It has a unique story, world, and characters. The touch screen controls are a new and great idea and they work fine. The Spirit Flute is a great idea and adds a fun aspect to the game. Despite what other people say, a train is not too "modern" as Hyrule is not set in any specific time period. They also say that the steam ships in Phantom hourglass is NOT too modern when in reality, steam ships were invented decades after trains. You are the kind of fake Zelda fan who hates all innovative Zelda games like Zelda: Adventure of like and Skyward Sword because they are too "different".

@TehLazaMan hmm well when i get stuck on that temple its because of the keys........ where you raise the water to the middle level, there should be a red block that floats up. put your iron boots on the there is a room down there with a key......i've gotten stuck on that bit so many times its embarassing lol, hope this helped!!!

@roymaster45 Actually, this is probably not the case. Take a very close look at the Overworld Map and you may notice something... The georgraphy is almost the same as in the very first Zelda game. Meaning that "New" Hyrule is the Hyrule where the first and second game took place. Which again means that Ganon(dorf) will eventually figgure out how to get that oversized kitchen-knife out of his skull... in one or two millenia...

ah! the spirit flute never worked properly for me, because my mic on my old ds is a bit fucked up.. I took like 30 mins to complete every musical session and when I found out that the final thing you had to do to kill the final boss was playing a song I raged so much the game froze and I had to do the final boss all over again :S

@MrTobinian I dont think it took away the personality. I think showed a different side on LOZ. A darker side considering you are dealing with twilight realms and what not a darker scheme seems sensible.

It's a marvelous game, in my opinion, with good music, easily handled controls, a somewhat generic but engaging story-line, a good mix of comedy and drama in the cinematics, and takes away the long hours spent on the your tiny little boat with set tracks for your train, and several hazards that keep you engages, not to mention tons of side-quests. I absolutely adore this game, and I've recommended it to all my friends.

Phantom Hourglass was better. Spirit Tracks may have had a better music and story, but its gameplay is repetitive, the characters bland remakes of PH's characters, the train is restrictive and takes away all of the adventure. There are serious difficulty spikes in the boss fights and Zelda is a pain to move around. Spirit Tracks is a good game, but I hate it when people say that it's better than Phantom Hourglass. There is also as SERIOUS lack of exploration and that wandering around like in PH that we all love with all of the gigantic islands. ST may have its moments, but it's nothing like the beautiful classic that did it first. Spirit Tracks: 6/10 Phantom Hourglass. 8/10

@MrAlekz Its not the same. There is new dungenons, areas and items, and if thats not a big enough change for you, then all the Zelda games is totally alike for you. Yes, i agree that the graphics havent changed at all.
