This was my first model kit ever and I even decided to paint the inner frame for an extra challenge getting into the hobby. It was expensive and hard to get in my country, but very much worth it. Besides some bad attachment points on the backpack, it's perfect to this day. Learned a lot from building it and it provided some great giant robot pictures. Basically the gateway drug into my current massive gunpla collection. lol

As an impulse fan i would like to point out that the shield also has an opening gimmick sideways for full aesthetic look of the force impulse transformation and it also prevents the top part from sliding d9wn

Am i the only one that likes the old MG Hands more? I actually have my impulse holding the massive double sword just with the posable hands, I think its way more fun to pose the fingers of your kit instead of switching out the hands.

IMO Sword Impulse should've been Shin's go-to mobile suit. Anything cool he did was in Sword Impulse. Relly would've differentiate the Impulse from the Strike.

Oooh there's a discussion/argument waiting to happen. Arguably the most iconic scene for the Impulse is in the fight against the Freedom. While he does wield of the swords, it's the Force Impulse, not the Sword Impulse. :D

I missed some clues because I'm too focused on the kit review. This MG line including Wing line has that solid inner frame makes you build it ever and ever again. It just won't age, besides the fact that it still uses polycap joints. But, it doesn't kill the deal. Still impressive kit upto now.

After putting water decals on my Tallgeese, I wanted some for this kit. I had trouble finding them for both this and the Force Impulse. I ended up ordering them directly from Delpi’s site and it didn’t take too long to get them. Would absolutely recommend Delpi’s decals.

I have the MG Force Impulse and it's great. Can confirm that the inner frame really makes it solid due to the ABS plastic. Judging by this review, I really think it's about time I get this Sword variant. Something about its coloring that really makes it look good. You know how some Gunpla doesn't really look great when you see pictures of it on the internet until you've actually built it yourself? That's how I felt with the Strike Freedom and Force Impulse until I've actually built them. However, for some reason, that's not the case here. The Sword Impulse already looks good just by looking at it based on pictures and in this review and I feel that it will look even better in person once I've actually built it myself.

Sword Impulse Gundam aged like fine wine, its one of the most solid kit and a must have if you wanna collect its variants. The only downside are the hands but 3rd party manipulators can fixed that.

Did it bother anyone else that the beam boomerangs were upside down on the Gundam? Glad they figured it out, it was really bugging me. The original MG Sword Impulse was my first ever MG Gunpla, I enjoyed making it but it always bugged me that the beam sabers it came with were bent and didn't come straight like the updated version.

Mines held up really well over the years, as it's more than 5 years old and held the same pose in all that time. The combined swords held up and pointed down, looking like it's lunging at a ship and aiming to stab down into it. On a base, for that mid air lunge.

the most impressive thing about gundam impulse in general, is some mofo in the future, made good enough automatic balancer for each parts during their detached form. I know Coordinator is a thing, but still that was impressive at heck.

This was also a kit Iv wanted for over a decade, and just never found the time to pick up. At the time Bandai was really shoveling loads of MG onto the market so I kept pushing it back. Fast forward to this year, I was really determined to pick it up and sure enough as if by destiny, the pbandai RG Sword Impulse was announced. Now Im patiently waiting until next month when that bad boy gets here along with the RG Crossbones X2

I recently built the MG Force Impulse. The only disappointing about it was the lack of color accuracy on the Core Splendor (some bits that need to be color-corrected with paint are visible even when docked in MS mode). Other than that it's indeed very solid for a one-and-a-half decade old kit, as you've said.

Finally I was waiting for you to review this kit! I’ve been thinking of getting it for a long time. The RG is whatever, it’s still kind of odd that this is regular release while the RG is P-Bandai. I wish there were more kits as old as this one that held up super well, unfortunately the MG Strike E+IWSP is super loose when you attach the backpack, and I’m not sure if any of you have built it but yhe MG Crossbone Full Cloth is a *shitshow.*

all my master grades from the mid 00s have all but crumbled to dust. Destiny, infinite justice, exia, the lot of them. the only ones that survive to this day are my original EW Wing zero, and old reliable Master and God Gundam. I never got this guy, but i might now, seeing as how he's emblematic of the only good part of Destiny.

Definitely holds up - The downside is what you mentioned, no real features and as MG's go they maybe don't have fantastic part separation or a wealth of moving parts. Just nice solid MG's, nothing special, nothing bad about them.

@@seanvanderstruys5196 When talking about Bandai gunpla, all quality is relative to a high standard - Practically there are no "bad" Bandai kits, there are just "less good" ones. For the MG Impulse specifically (any version), its purpose lies in two things; The equipment and the split-in-half transformation. The articulation is secondary and just needs its parts to not get in the way of themselves and it does that just great. It is also limited by its core fighter which prevents the model from having an ab-crunch (meaning be able to lean forwards, backwards or sideways at the stomach). The forearms don't rotate and the ankle pivots are fine but not great. As an example, the Impulse RG's are just better, despite being smaller. So, not bad, nothing special. Compared to a much older kit it's better, but other older kits are honestly just as fine like the early '00's G-Fighter screw kits. Could the Impulse have been better for its time? Not sure. I think the 2.0 kits that came at the same time were mostly the same. Knowing what we know now however, a few things could easily have been improved.

I've wanted to try a Master Grade but I haven't found one that really speaks to me, and the suits that I do like don't really have very good Master Grades as I understand it. Those suits being the Zeta and Unicorn(s). The Kämpfer heavy was one I was interested in but that's a P-bandai so it'll be difficult to grab now, I'm sure I'll find one eventually that speaks to me and won't be a terribly painful build or pain in the ass to pose

Funny enough, this is the same model kit that got me in to gunpla. Facebook randomly showed me a post from a gunpla group that I didn't follow at the time. Someone posted their Daban MG Sword Impulse tatted up with decals which actually looked really cool and they posed it so amazingly and made me fall in love with the kit instantly. However that being said, I still haven't bought it. I'm only 12 gunplas deep, still no MGs, and I'm still holding out on this kit. Idk why but I don't want to buy it yet and I've bought kits more expensive than this. I think this may be the sign. This is probably going to be my first MG kit.

I hate the Impulse Gundam (and its a-hole pilot) with a passion, but the RG is a legitimate flawless 10/10 kit and the 2008 (force) MG is also a solid build experience, a stand-out kit for a 3-piece Gundam, so there's no doubt that this version wouldn't be as well. Also The 'Sword' colors are far superior to the weird baby blue mix on the standard versions. The fact that I want the 'Sword' versions of both the (PB)RG and MG, despite my dislike, speaks to the quality Bandai put into these. I can't forgive the rocket pods dropping from the core fighter every time it combines however.

Honestly I don't consider the impulse as a transforming kit, it's just a mode/function of rapid aerial deployment, same as the gramps gundam, but designed in a way that makes sense in terms of actually maneuvering to combine in the air. It's not like a purpose-buult flight form, tho the insane rabid dog that pilots it does abuse the function to do crazy things like slitting the torso mid-combat, or launching the upper half as a diversion and blowing it up before a replacement is redeployed, again, mid-combat
