Grafton Alto Sax was certainly designed for Bird and Ornette Coleman

Ornette wasn't that much in love with the Grafton - caused him no end of mechanical problems. He only got one to start with because it was all he could afford after his tenor got stolen.

Least did I know he lost his Tenor....but he really had a beautiful sound from that plastic! I wish Trane, Bird, Dolphy and Ornette could have Bopped together 😊

@@ThomasMonese-rw6pcYeah, blowing through that piece of plastic didn't produce any loss of tone for either Ornette or Bird. The problem really was that the mechanism was unreliable and Ornette's spent almost as much time being fixed as it was being played. Apparently they're a repairman's nightmare. They started work on a tenor version but it presented manufacturing problems they couldn't overcome so they scrapped the project.
