That little exchange where they talk over each other while playing chess was one of my favorite parts. It really highlighted their development. The disdain and contempt they both had. Louis tried to ignore and pacify the tension, but she pulled and played on them however she liked.

I have so many praises and critical issues for the new Anne Rice series. But so far in season 1 Sam Reid has portrayed Lestat from the book better than Tom Cruise did. Tom Cruise didn't have the threat of unexpected, walking-on-unpredictable-eggshells that Sam projects. Overall, as much as I have issue with the abandonment of the original story events and the interpersonal, domestic horror is spot on. I dont think Anne Rice really meant for her story to be romanticized. She was high lighting the worse of domestic abuse depravity using vampirism as the method to have the reader removed from it just enough to actually accept it.
