I have a pair exactly like the second pair. No patch, scrubbed inner label, and super super long. I was being to think maybe they were fake, or maybe seconds.

I think a sample. At that time lvc was being pushed hard and I guess there were a lot out there.

Thanks Emil. Mate, normally I would but these were an eBay purchase and I probably asked the girl for the measurements but nothing came through. Was a while ago so I can't really remember. It was a punt, but given that 32 have been quite standard for me in Levi's I was hopefully confident. Overall, I much prefer to buy in store as it is tho.

Question, since I am a noob in the denim game. I have selvedge denim jacket. And I watched it because reasons 😂 too dirty. I washed it in the bathtub after washing how to do it from one of your videos. I am wondering if there is a way to get the jacket stiff again like how it was before washing? Thank you!

You could use some starch. Same stuff they use to make shirts crispy. But I’ve never tried it before. Not sure of the outcome.

I just came into a pair of "sample" 1890s like your second pair here. Much heavier and darker rinse denim compared to the 9 oz used for the production model. They too were oversized but thankfully shrunk to a decent fit after a soak and a hot wash. Mine have 2 back pockets though, and the arcuate is different on each pocket, two variations on vintage style arcuates. In a world of fakes I think these ae legitimate and likely samples. They still have the leather patch to.

What suspenders ir braces will you be wearing with those. I want to wear suspenders with my STF 501's which I intend to install suspender studs to. I'm thinking about Cohart aftermarket suspender studs.

Don’t wear suspenders with them. They are tight enough to stay up without them. Too tight in fact 😕

@@CeeAreDee Yes that is true for you but I wear them loose and comfy like they did in the 1800's. I've always worn suspenders for work as an electrician. And I wear "HoldUPS" brand suspenders. They have alligator clips. I really want to try the old style suspenders. I know I will find them, I just wanted to know if you knew of any good quality ones, that you might recommend. Thanks. I machine washed in warm water and machine dried my shrink to fit Levi’s 501. Not good inseam shrunk 3 inches. The waist shrunk so much I couldn’t breathe. 😞

@@CeeAreDee Haha, nah, just reveling in its persistence. I must ask though, I bought some Tavik selvedge jeans, thought it was Japanese, but says "Made in Egypt". I haven't really heard anyone online talk about them, but I know Egyptian cotton is suppose to be decent. Thoughts?

Haha. It’s true. Nothing dies harder than a bad idea ;) But Tavik jeans, that’s a new one on me. But yeah, Egyptian cotton is actually just the particular species of cotton plant, it’s not to do with the country of origin. However there is some decent garment manufacturing in North Africa and I’m always open minded to new brands. How do they hold up in your opinion?

@@CeeAreDee Well, honestly I'm a total noob when it comes to raw selvedge, these are my first pair, so I have nothing to compare them to. I love the color (deep indigo) and the selvedge edge is white with a red line through it. I can't find anything indicating the weight, but I would assume mid-weight. They're great for riding (motorcycle) but I haven't really broke them in yet. I grew up as a poor kid in the 80's, so I'm well versed in stiff Wranglers though, so I feel I have a leg up on the rest, haha.

New, that's hard. You might find a pair on ebay or the other second hand market places.

I used to have a pair of Lutece MFG Co. It has cinch back but no suspender buttons. And I paid 80 for it brand new but I got it from a surplus shop in Europe. It may be more expensive elsewhere. My suggestion is to find a surplus shop near you or online ones. I think I've seen some nice affordable pairs with cinch back and/or suspender buttons on ebay.

Hmm, this was my first thought too, but I actually don't think so. Faking jeans is still a costly business and these denims are just a little too niche to be worth it to fake them. Also, doesn't explain why the inside stamp is crossed out and the leather patch removed. I think it is much more likely that these were samples or seconds that were sold off.

@@CeeAreDee You are probably correct. Back in the 1970s reject Levi's were sold in workwear stores at half price. The patch was removed and the red tag cut off. They were excellent value for money.
