Performance wasn't THAT "great" a far older Mclaren F1 or a CGT is more than 10 seconds faster than the regular LFA on the ring on a manual and older recalled tires for the CGT, is also faster on Morocco, Hockenheim, etc. As a drivers car the F1, CGT and the famous analogs car does a better job. Wanna go for a quick spin?” I handed my bags off to the concierge and went for a rip. Absolutely intoxicating sounds. Just brilliant. You forgot to mention one of, if not the coolest, facts about the LFA. The “Yamaha” brand that develops guitar’s and actually constructed this custom exhaust themselves and that’s why it sounds so good. To this day it blows my mind! You will never seen that again. Couple that with the fact that this car has one of the highest Redline’s of any production cars, you’re making magic happen. Something else I forget to mention, this car has the fastest rev’s of any car at the time.That’s why it sounds like a Superbike or F1 car. They had to construct the engine a precise and very painstaking way to get the rev’s to work that way. This is and always will be a dream car of mine. I want to say that Lexus spent more on production than what they could reasonably sell the cars for. So they essentially lost money making these and that’s another reason why they made so few. These are a pinnacle of man’s greatest achievements. And before someone asks, yes Jay Leno has one lol. Ohh what it must be like to be rich…
@apurbaghosh58782 жыл бұрын
The sound is contributed by the most important factor i.e the LFA has 10 cylinders thats a known fact but whats interesting is that it has 10 individual throttle bodies which is one for each cylinder hence the 9000 rpm redline and 9500 rpm fuel shutoff

Fun fact: Lexus had no choice but to go with a digital tachometer. When the car upshifts, it does so so quickly that a physical tachometer needle (which was still pretty common in exotic cars back in 2011) can't move fast enough to remain in sync with the engine speed during shifts. It's an amazing engine.
@mr.e03112 жыл бұрын

upshifting fast is the transmission's job not the engine's job
@ba5aran Жыл бұрын
it isn't about the upshifts, in fact the gearbox of lfa is just a single clutch and the shifts are quite slow compared to dual clutch gearboxes. the reason for digital tachometer is that lfa engine can gain and lose revs real fast. it's apparent when you watch another supercar's tachometer and lfa's side by side. lfa's tachometer needle is almost jittery, while others are quite stable. the engine is just too sensitive to throttle input that physical tachometers cannot display it

@getmeouttahere76384 жыл бұрын
Packaging should definitely be a priority when designing sports cars. Proportions and weight distribution matter, and V6 engines can put out quite a bit of power relative to their size (especially with forced induction). As for balance issues, those are corrected with shafts. The people behind formula 1 aren't idiots. They know how to design a performance car.

People are complaining about the skyrocketing price, and the rather "mediocre" specifications. The thing is, people don't buy this because of specifications, but rather the experience. The sound itself is orgasmic, emitting a lower, refined soprano, which is something that say, a V10 M5 could only ever come close to. However, the exclusivity of the vehicle, with production numbers matching the Bugatti Veyron (450). The LFA also has to live the legacy of Japan's first "Super" car, the Toyota 2000GT. It had to live up to it's reputation, although it never starred in a Bond movie, nor was it so exclusive to get it's top off, it still won the heart of Jeremy Clarkson, the orangutan itself. The LFA is a car that will be very hard to replicate for the many years to come, with it's discrete looks and unparalleled sound, it truly is the 2000GT of the Digital Age. Many can build a straight-line rocket, but only Lexus can build an LFA.

The backstory of the lfa transmission is that when in development the designer wanted the LFA to have more of an old-school manual transmission feeling so they also included a dial to adjust how aggressive you wanted the shifting to be from a casual shift to a very speedy shift

Yes, back in 2011 the "smart key" had issues, and well it took a while to work the bugs out of them.. This car is a Masterpiece. The Nurburgring Edition was even better. So many people see 552HP or 562HP say that's not enough. It's plenty to go around the Ring in 7:14 Sec. On Bridgestones tires. I'm not saying there bad but slap a set of Michelins or Pirelli or Dunlops. That time would be faster. If any person was a real fan of this car would know. That the single clutch gearbox they used was used for a reason. The best feel you could have without having a manual transmission. The price is rising on these cars. A Nurburgring Edition sold for 770,000 dollars on Barrett Jackson with over 1000 miles on it. I haven't even gotten to the sound of this thing. Its quick enough to get you in serious trouble. The sound can get you in trouble. The looks will break necks especially in my town. It will last forever. It's the perfect Masterpiece of a car.

The creation of the V10 was lead by Lexus' chief engine designer Okamoto Takamitsu. The engine starts life at Toyota's Myochi plant. It is at this plant that the engine block is made from molted aluminium. The block is then sent to Toyota's Honsha factory. The same factory that used to be Toyota's F1 engine facility. The block will get milled, drilled and polished and emerges as a precise engine block. In a sealed room Takumi’s (Master Craftsmen) hone every sharp edge using precision polishing tools. After this a highly skilled Takumi pre-assembles the finished engine blocks to check if they fit precisely. Disassembled they travel as unit to Yamaha’s Iwata city plant. It is at this plant that 4 highly skilled Yamaha Takumi’s fully assemble V10. A process that takes 2,5 days for one engine. Before the engine gets put into an LFA, it undergoes a half day of exhaustive testing.

Talk all you want about that lack of "immediate upshift", that little upgrade from a pure manual stickshift system to a paddle controlled sequential transmission is absolutely perfect. That lack of dual clutch forces you to still be completely in touch with the car, and the quicker shifts compared to a manual really adds to usability of the power and sound of the car. You still have to work for the power, but it probably still feels so futuristic. This car is absolutely insane and I understand what Jeremy Clarkson was saying. They simply cannot replicate this!

Not just the exhaust system, the whole engine is co-made by Yamaha. Toyota's had a lot of help from Yamaha over the years, usually cylinder heads. Personally, I love the looks as well, and I applaud Lexus for the fairly conservative design. People who buy cars like this just to show off don't deserve them!

Jeremy Clarkson said it was the best car he's ever driven in his life there's only one other car that can hold a torch to it which being a Ferrari. the LFA Nurburgring Edition had the Nurburgring record for production cars at the time of its release.

7:14 for the track version. 7:30 or 7:22 with the standard LFA. Time difference was due to race--slicks vs OEM. This thing is monster fast. Even today.

this NEEDS to be an engine option on other Toyota/Lexus cars. Like.... a Camry. I4/V6? or, do you want to choose the 4.8l V10 option.

@@Shepard_AU I say Toyota should make it an engine option in their ENTIRE lineup. From the Prius, to the Tundra, to everything between. Soccer dads shouldn't be regulated to boredom, come, have yee hither the Toyota Sienna with the V10 wail! The Toyota Supra with the... egads, DAS Motor auf keinen Fall, das können wir nicht haben! The lfa is soooo good that not event the people who made it don’t know how to make it again and never will - Jeremy Clarkson. Proof: Toyota can’t even make the new Supra.

The biggest difference between the 2 cars is that Toyota was willing to spend billions developing the LFA and not the Supra. That's it.
@cupholders4 жыл бұрын
@@Michael_Schm Yeah the LFA was created to showcase the brand's capability in making a performance car first, money second. The new Supra is just supposed to be a mass-produced sports car, so they would want to cut down on costs.

Lexus: Ok we have all the specs done now, how should we make this thing look? Employee: Toyota has 500 old Supra chassis laying around, we could use those. Lexus: Well I guess we aren't making 10,000 of these then. If you haven't taken the meaning from this, The LFA looks exactly like a Supra.

you are correct. Yamaha music division worked directly with the engine designers to tune the intake manifold to a specific frequency for combustion.

There's a secondary problem. Due to the halo status and limited production, a lot of dealerships bought it and kept it. Very few in the US made it to the public. In fact, dealers are screaming for a follow up which is higher volume to attract people in showrooms. Lexus is supposed to be working on one but the LCF will come first.
