An awesome bargain. in the used luxury sedan market, the Lexus LS430 is arguably the best sedan made for its time. Here is my take on the (UCF 30) LS430. These cars are known for their excellent reliability and build quality, you won't be disappointed by this car.

I own an 04 ls430 black on black with sport tuned suspension option. I really love this car. The attention to detail is incredible. I am a professional mechanic and have been able to drive almost every car out there. Nothing compares to the ls430 not even the ls460. The peace, quiet, and comfort is unmatched. And the resale value has gone up in the past year that I have owned her. Love this car.

Window malfunctions/regulators, control arm bushings go bad, terrible shock absorbers/suspension issues. Valve cover gaskets begin to leak at over 100K miles especially in warm dry climates no different than any German brand. VSC/Check engine lights up, the head unit keeps malfunctioning which keeps you from controlling the radio/climate control buttons with an error message (internal system not connected). The Mark Levinson audio system is garbage which includes the amplifier that doesn't last very long and costs over $1400 to replace. @FOOQ GAMING compared to what? Regular dealer service is much cheaper than regular service at Mercedes or BMW. At 105K miles all my electrics work. I’ve had to deal with the stupid control arms (it’s a bad design) but the air suspension hasn’t been replaced yet. Unlike pure GDI engines you don’t need a carbon cleanout at 100K miles (because it still has port injection). The 8 speed Direct Shift transmission from Aisin is dead reliable. Compared to running an S-class it’s cheap. In 56K miles over the last 29 months the total maintenance and repairs (with tires and oil changes and brake pads and a battery of course) have cost me about 3600 USD. What luxury car do you drive that’s cheaper?

I've had my 2004 LS430 for 16 years. Other than replacing the alternator & one electric door lock, the car has had nothing but routine maintenance. One of the things I like most about the LS430 is the simplicity -- my 88 year old mother borrowed my car, and in about 2 minutes I was able to explain to her how everything works. If i had to, I could work every control with my eyes closed. You'd never be able to this in a car with a touch screen.
@southerncharity7928

@kendallfields
@kendallfields 2 жыл бұрын
@@southerncharity7928 The base model 2004 LS430 doesn't have a touch screen. If I remember correctly, the screen, which included navigation, added about $4,500 to the price of the car. I was already stretching to buy the Lexus, so I didn't choose one with the screen and navigation. 18 years later, it seems I made the right choice: the 2004 screen is now outdated, but my non-screen car is as good as the day I bought it. 😀

@@kendallfields probably a moot point since you can't change it, but the screen is still supported(updated) by Toyota. The refinement always blows me away compared with google maps/Waze. Example, it doesn't tell you to turn if the turn is obvious. The voice is more pleasant and the tones sound like a Boeing airplane. Pure class. Does your model keep track of maintenance items? Congrats anyway with your purchase.

That's funny..I've also had my 04 for 16 years now and have only needed to replaced my alternator and pass/front door lock mechanism. although I did need to replace 2nd gear solenoid around 200k miles. The car shifted just fine but threw a code permanently. Im at 255k currently and I still love driving it. My wife drives a 2010 460L we've owned 9 years and it's definitely been much more expensive to own. All of the control arms and related linked bushings. Timing chain guides and tensioners. 1 wheel bearing. 1 air strut. I still like the car but its not even on the same level as the ls430. I also still own a 2000 ls400 with 300k that my kids share(and tear up) 04-06 ls430 is a very special car and an unmatched used value for your dollar.

@@southerncharity7928 You actually can change the screen. Not necessarily referring to the cheapo Chinese touch screens but there is a company that just updates the screen. It retains all of the original touch screen interface but is a slightly higher resolution and incorporates more modern bluetooth capabilities. A little pricey at $600-$700 but could be worth it depending on wants and needs. Cant remember the manufacturer off the top of my head but there are a couple KZbin videos demonstrating it.

This is hands down the best used car that $10k can buy, in balance of extremely build quality/reliability with nearly as many features as a new car. The engine and transmission are just buttery smooth, and the car itself just feels more substantial and weighty in a good way. It's great to experience a time gone by when cars were really made to last, not hollowed out pieces of aluminum you can throw out in a few years. The back seat is by far the best place to be in this car, clearly meant for executives to be comfortable back there.

I added a grom bluetooth in the cd input so use with phone and answer calls on steering wheel but for music too. Put the mid and treble knobs basically to zero and the sub down a bit. The mark Levinson wakes up and sounds fantastic. The car has a coefficiency of drag of .25 which betters almost all super cars. The drive "fun" in it is what I love. It torques very well much faster than a is300 2jz same year. I have tried a is250 2012 and what a yawn. It manoeuvres incredibly well and I love cornering with it especially with 17" 225 55 if I recall. It is a total constant adrenaline rush especially going on the highway. It is incredibly safe and a solid car and has a firewall in the back so no fold seats. Just a monocoque of safe. My doors close by themselves once you closed to first click then it pulls shut in 2002! Black leather interior with 6 fans in the seats and back, w red wine wood trim. I love it for many things you don't or don't mention but I thought you would do a 0-60 because it is surprising and that V8 sounds glorious. For winter the vsc is incredible. I admit though I paid 1200 for mine.

Mine is considered the modern package and i love it. I’m more happy my 430 is running OEM coilovers instead of the air suspension so I saved another 1000 or so on making it brand new if that ever broke. Overall I put about 1000 total with water pump/timing change and tires/brakes. Just picked up a 2002 LS430 with the UL package. It has 280k miles but holy cow it drives so smooth. And I was averaging about 27mpg on my 200miles road trip back home. I’m very impressed with this car.

In 2012, i bought a lexus Ls 400 with 172k miles on board for $1100. This car served me for almost four years and i drove it for an additional 45k miles with no issues untill i blew the head as i failed to check the coolant level. Since that day, i miss this ls 400 soo bad, its a true legend.

Great video mate, you're refreshingly unannoying for young chap! I'm looking forward to getting either the 400 or the 430 as my first Lexus but I'm dreading the repair bills seeing as here in the UK we only get the top spec UL with the problem screen, problem air ride and problem soft closing door mechanisms and the list goes on!! It's still gonna happen though!

I am surprised at the criticism levied at Mark Levinson audio. I have an 05 LS430 and am delighted with the quality of the CD system. Back in the 80s and 90s I had a music studio and did a lot of recording with Nakamichi equipment, which was expensive in those days. Some of those early cassettes and CDs sound better in the car than they did in the studio. (unless my hearing has deteriorated, which it probably has). Love your video, and yes, it is the best built car in my eyes.

I own 2 RX's and the Mark Levinson stereo is most definitely an upgrade from the premium audio system from Lexus. A stereo that is professionally designed to accommodate the driver, when no one else is in the vehicle, that's the latest and greatest Gold RX 350 in my drive way. A stereo on wheels. It took me a full year of waiting and searching before I got my new baby - Goldie. I'm laughing my head off every day, as this was the only expensive thing on my bucket list.

Bought my first official car got an 03 ls430 with 176.5k when I got it rn it’s sitting at 178.2 smoothest sedan I’ve ever been in. Beats any of the cars we’ve had in the family whether they were newer or older. Wanted to buy a car that’d last a long time. I’m glad I chose the LS . Wanna buy a burner to baby her and keep the miles low and have the other one as a build for drifting possibly (maybe an older is300)

I had a 2005 jaguar XJ8 for yrs, I loved it but just wanted something new ...I looked at one of these on several occasions ...I’d only consider a 04-06 ...they are gorgeous ...more so over the following generations ...my only objection was that it’s only avbl in RWD ...I ended up going w/ a Mercedes s class v8 4matic! They look very similar! I’m a Mercedes and jaguar kind of girl ....this Lexus model is the only Lexus I’d ever get!

bought a 2006 a few months ago and love it. took it on a road trip last weekend and got like 26-27mpg on the highway. I decided to get that greenish-gray color, because I have had nothing but black, gray, and white vehicles pretty much my entire life. it looks good in just about every color though. I got the base-ish trim. I wanted the good rims, but did not want the infotainment because I didn't want to deal with the ML stereo and old screen. I assume I will upgrade the head unity and install a backup camera, and then I will have all the tech I need for my daily commute.

On my third LS. The only car I would ever consider purchasing. Just picked up an ‘02 Ultra Luxury Edition. It’s glorious. Only gripe is that the LS UL air suspension shocks have a life span of about 120k. Then they begin to leak at the seals. Replacement is very expensive.

No code is produced. You can see that the wheel will sit deeper in the wheel well on the affected shock and the air pump runs more that usual.

@@medicalnegligence I've never noticed my air pump running and have 116k. I did notice a code while using the Techstream software, I'll look into it more, I had the perception it was a pending code as no code appears on the dash. My car is very comfortable, I'll research this more, thank you. Would you recommend I pay the dealer to diagnose it? If they are just going to read the codes, it wouldn't be worthwhile. I am thrifty, but have moeny.

Every mechanic says that my car can go over 500000 miles easy if l keep up the maintenance. The best ls430 year is 2005 last year they were made.

This is a great car, and an excellent review! You can clearly see that you have obviously done plenty of research by the comments made about this car, To date I wholeheartedly agree this is the BEST car I have EVER owned, and I intend to keep mine until it fades into the sunset or things finally start breaking. It has always been looked after as the ULTRA - (Ultimate Edition) and in my opinion is THE version to go for, It has always started first time, and has been honestly 100% reliable. I enjoyed your summation of this car, please keep reviewing , as they are informative and non-biased if you need confirmation from anyone, - then please use me. Great build quality, ride and dependability. My wife's '04 Ultra has 76K miles and has never failed us, but it is not without its faults. It is the usual suspects you may find online. Peltier unit, amplifier, a/c compressor and a "gooey" trunk release button. Other than that, we have only done routine maintenance. Dealership is attentive and responsible. Air suspension has given us no issues. Lack of use means frequent battery changes. It does not handle or steer in the manner of a German car. Our S-Class was a better highway vehicle, but a maintenance nightmare. If someone offered me $40K for my LS 430, I would respectfully decline.

Congratulations on your beautiful car. Succinct and comprehensive. Thank you. [ Compare sports car for fun] Research and discuss the drag coefficient of wind resistance of the LS 430 design. The Japanese bullet train windtunnel was utilize to achieve an aerodynamic drag coefficient of .25. Facilitating fuel efficiency and class leading quietness on the highway. Notwithstanding, it’s a large sedan with a tall greenhouse. Recently I have learned about x-ray scanning of the engines for Precision casting inspection on top-of-the-line Lexus engines.
