Walked into Tower Records in Shibuya, Tokyo and they were playing this track. Brand new album. I knew in a Stone Roses instant that this was the new sound I didn’t know I had been waiting for. I bought the cd and ran back to my hotel(Toku Excel) and played it over and over on this dvd/cd player I had while looking out over Shibuya station crossing at night. Looked like a scene from Blade Runner. My friend, Mayumi came over with tempura and we ate in the neon light filled hotel room with The Libertines playing and looking at Tokyo rush by. Magic time.

This song reminds me of London 2002, mates lost, and the carefree nature of youth that can never be reclaimed. While I'm normally the sort that wishes all bands would exist in perpetuity, and reunite once they've broken up, I do believe The Libertines should remain in the past, as all our youths must.

@r3waaa8 ай бұрын
i love it too but i dont know what it means , anybody care to help me out?
@tmsztrsz8 ай бұрын
@@r3waaa I thinks it's a social and also existential commentary. At the beginning of the song, he mentioned the riots that happened in London, and in the ending he summarizes that regardless of everything, there is a very low chance of social advance, and you are most likely to die in the same social class that you were born in (e.g. as a guy from working class you'll die being a guy from working class). But at the same time, it's ok because it's YOUR class, with your people, your family, your ways of living, and everytyhing that you are familiar with, and also it's perfectly fine to die in this class, as social advance isn't the sole purpose of life and your class is just as good as any other. (But please note I'm not from UK, and I'm not an English native speaker, so I may get this whole song wrong.)

I do appreciate most music from all genres and I realise music, and fashion etc etc move on with the times evolve but people like Pete Doherty just has that thing about them. Yes he’s had drug problems but that’s none of our business. He’s so talented and people relate to him. I really do believe that people with internal pain produce the most beautiful music! Course I'm no Einstein, but I'm struggling to figure out how countless British rockstars, that have openly admitted to taking smack n' crack, get away with it, yet Doherty was cruelly hounded, and castigated, and uiltimately, torn to fucking shreds by the good ol' British media... How can certain British rockstars, such as: Eric Clapton, Shaun Rhyder, Ian Brown, Mani, Keith Flint, Keith Richards, and Ozzy, how were these rockstars left to revel in their notoriety, and go on to milk their lurid tales of drugs and debauchery, yet Peter was hounded... and all because he took drugs... Drugs? In the world of rock n' roll? Never.
@esraayousef564310 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you, despite his sins he was treated with great prejudice, it wasn't fair the way he was portrayed and viewed, he sank into darkness more and more because the ugly eye blinding media lights were burning him and tearing him down to pieces, Kurt Cobain turned into a hero alongside his drug full life, while Pete, was portrayed as the devil's face..

It was the era Docherty was born into. In years gone by the media would in the most part excuse in drug abuse in the face of genius but in internet era the press hound down anyone who is slightly famous for literally anything they can. Thus Pete Docherty has been made a shameful example of with so many people ignoring the genius of his music and the greatest songwriter of his generation. As a consequence of the this change whilst many good new rock n'roll bands are breaking through no real rock n'roll characters a breaking through. In every sense of the phrase Pete Docherty is Britain's last true rockstar.
