Poor Carl. Loving someone is painful. What I love about the Libertines is that their songs are so real and honest, watching this the only thing I could think about was "how is he able not to burst into tears while singing it?"

wow, you noticed that too? I thought i was crazy, but that's all i can fcus on. this is just depressing as a whole. list of things they could have done tomorrow... i love the new libs, but man, think about if they broke thru to the us and how big they could have been? Just as tight as Oasis if you can look past the sloppy playing on pete's end, i suppose?.... like a comment in here mentions. they do just sound a bit like any other britpop band here. Pete and Carl helped make the libs what they were. it's like john and paul.... one without the other was never the same. not that this is bad, but it isn't the libertines; it's carl, gary, and adam playing What Became of the Likely Lads and looking like 3 sad blokes while doing so....
@computersnevergoonstrike8 жыл бұрын
and someone else i didn't even notice. so weird not to hear/see pete with them here. i havent exposed myself to many libs videos or performances after Pete. They werent the same band, even if he was as dumb as Keef to show up in court with drugs. I just hope even this new incarnation can tour the u.s. maybe ONCE before I die, or pete dies, or the band dies. their CBGB show alone can just go to show how big they COULD have been on this side of the pond if they broke the states.... truly broke the states. I'd still like to see them live if they ever make it over here, even if they're all pushing 45 now and i'm in my 30s and feel like 80 from my own "bad old ways" and falling back on them far too many times for my body's good. i still hope i get to see them at least once with this lineup, though..... better than the shit in the states right now.

Although there are no "Libertines" without Pete, this performance would've been completely different with him in the lineup.. and this is actually superb. Carl is great and hopefully their reunion last year will lead to something unexpected.. The least we can do is hope.

Carl playing this tune without Pete means so much, even tho i know that the Libertines were the libertines because of Pete, but yeah, looking further than to what they Sound like with this other guitarrist or Whatever, Each time i see this vid What comes to my mind is that: Pete was dropped out of the band because of his drug problems, the band then went to fullfill the schedule without him before actually spliting, while promoting an album that basically tell us the story of Pete and Carl and how their relation went from love to hate, with a second single that goes 'What became of the likely lads? What became of the Dreams we had? What became of forever?' Which is the song that they are playing here without Pete, which is something as beautiful as tragic, and that's What i like and rescue from this performance, It turns Into something really poetic

They don't do this song on Jonathon Ross -- that is Can't Stand Me Now. And, in my opinion, this is one of the most touching performances Barat's ever done. If this doesn't have heart, then I'm afraid everything I've ever thought I put my heart into was nothing.

Any performance without Pete Doherty shouldn't be branded as 'the Libertines', IMO. It was Pete's band, and they are still making a living playing Pete's material.
@bwaybabyrose7 жыл бұрын
While I totally agree The Libertines aren't The Libertines without Pete, that's a bit unfair. Carl made almost as large of a songwriting contribution to the band as Pete. You can clearly hear the different influences they both brought to The Libs when you listen to their solo stuff.

This is NOT the Libertines its Carl Barat solo. It is amzing how different the music sounds without pete's out of time sloppy rhythm playing. He made it work he played behind the beat, in front of it, very much like Keef. Besides his vocals his guitar playing is very good and unconventional. The Libs are an unhinged band that verge of falling apart made it so fucking great. This sounds like a karaoke version.

Okej, jag kan ta några exempel: Ta The Masters Apprentices - War or Hands Of Time (från 1967), Last Post on the Bugle är i princip en exakt replika av den låten.

Cut The Rope är tagen från Time For Heroes - Libertines. Killer Kaczynski är tagen från What A Waster - The Libertines Idén om Mr Moon är taget från Mrs Jackson - The Vines Textidén till Long Before Rock'N'Roll är taget från Can't Stand me Now - Libertines Gitarrmelodin i Gloria är taget från He's a Rocker - The Vines

@The1977Punk Vissa saker är i princip snott rätt av (texten från Chas and Dave samt Last Post on the Bugle).
