Thank you for making these video's Phil. I was a daily gambler for years, fully aware of being an addict. I didn't make up a lot of excuses or lies to myself, but instead became a very desperate man hoping to catch a break at one point. I hid the addiction from friends and family and became lonely, anxious and even more selfdestructive. I'm a year gambling free now, I managed to make a payment for a house with the money I saved and I'm happier than ever. But I'm still a gambling addict. And whenever I feel the urge, or I need some reassurement, I watch your video's. Again, thank you very much.

The 'it's only money' thing is the worst, because aside from the other things you could do with that money - irrespective of the financial element - you're also losing your time. I remember realising that even if I didn't have significant financial losses, I'd still spent almost every evening for a few years gambling - and it wasn't that I could point at any particularly meaningful evenings over that span. And obviously by doing that you're also costing yourself the friends you could go out and make / keep too. That was pretty powerful for me - even if I 'won', I was still losing at the same time.

I really can't thank you enough for producing these videos. I typed 'I can't stop gambling' into KZbin and have discovered your channel. I am the man with all the excuses you're describing. The last point you make I've always said is like pressing the 'f--k it' switch that we all have - that resignation that this is just how it is and not caring any more. Watching these videos is the first positive step I've taken to try to resolve this problem and I feel much more confident of making a success of it after being able to relate to so much of what you're saying. Thanks again x

After subscribing to gamstop in may for a 5 year period.. it's been both good and bad, days where I really feel like gambling I can't and on my strong days I'm so grateful for it. The only temptations I've got are the machines in pubs... I don't go to the bookies and I haven't actually gambled any money about 2 months straight. It's a very weird journey I'm on and it feels good to not lose my money all the time instead I'm investing in other parts of my life. Cheers for the videos mate

Hi Phil, ive been a subscriber of your channel for years, youve hit so many nerves of mine that i buried deep, this video explaining the desperation of "oh well ive lost so much that i might as well lose it all thats just me" i was in deep financial debt, 4 years later, ive adjusted my ways and my attitude, now i can give my kids and grandkids what they want, with your help ive managed to recognise whats important to me, not how important gambling is to me, you gave me space and clarity based upon your pain you have shared with so many, gambling addiction is such a lonely place to be. No more excuses, no more lies, im back in the real world watching what i earn making the lives of who i love better, thankyou Phil x

I’m not a gambler, but I find your thoughts really interesting and helpful. You are very eloquent and your words I believe are impacting (in a positive way) more than just people with gambling problems. The philosophies around gambling can be applied to so many other areas of life. I went through many years of depression and low self esteem. We can wallow in the “loser” belief when things turn against us. Whether that’s a machine saying you lost money, or you don’t get a job or partner or whatever, it’s a similar feeling. Gamblers have psychological issues that so many non-gamblers have too. It’s just that the non-gamblers are using / abusing other ways to deal with them.

I think I'm the worst gambler there is. Never been in debt. Together me and the missus will bring about £3,000 in per month. Say £700 left after all bills and nessisities are paid. So what do I do every month? I gamble around £500 of the £700 with out fail. Sounds ok to everyone else, bills are paid etc .. But we never have money to do things like normal families because my gambling. I hate myself so much for it. All it takes is a puncture £65 spend. Or washing machine goes down and I gamble more to try to win that money. Hate myself so much.

@@JP-ln4ue thank you for the reply and you're right. But the tools are one thing. Sadly in my head there are two of me. My Brain always loses the battle to control my Mind. I can't get my Brain to stop my mind before walking in. Only once I've lost or won does my brain either tell me off for losing or tell me I was lucky now don't ever do that again! But tomorrow is always when the mind takes over. Sadly, when I have money I can afford to spend my mind controls me, I can't control my mind. When, like now being the 12th Nov I have no funds until payday on 26th, My Brain kicks my mind in touch and sadly I push myself and my family into survival mode for the next 2 weeks. Pathetic I know. Harder still with Christmas next month all my fault I know It's just something I have to work out and quick. Thanks again for the comment.

Can I have some advice, I'm not dishonest as a rule, but I've been lying to someone who I respect just to get money for gambling due to addiction. How should I approach them to explain? I will pay back obviously I owe them a grand and I'm going to pay them 100 tomorrow for a start. How does one get over the shame of behaving in a dishonest way? Does it just take time? I don't believe people without addiction genuinely understand why one has behaved in such a way.. its so demeaning...thanks

You are a nice person Phil. You could be a mate of mine and I would be happy to call you that. Really hope you can get on top of your addiction. Although I never got into any debt because of my gambling addiction. I know only too well how it is to be skint all the time because of it. The UK is one of the worst places to get a gambling addiction as there are ''bookies'' on practically every street as well as online gambling. I spent 15 years trying to stop gambling and could only do so in the end when I moved to Brazil to start a new life with my dear wife here. I am still a gambler but not to the same way and I think I always will be. Although anyone that knows me here would just know me as a successful business person who did well in life. Hope you get a handle on this and move onto better things. Maybe start a business......it's a gamble.
