(Visit: www.uctv.tv/) Host Harry Kreisler welcomes William Cronon, Research Professor of History, Geography, and Environmental Studies at the University of Wisconsin, for a discussion of the challenges of historical scholarship. Reflecting on his formative experiences, Cronon, a former President of the American Historical Association, discusses the influence of his parents, his education, and the culture and environment of Wisconsin. He analyzes the essential features of a liberal arts education, the importance of storytelling in history, the implications of the digital revolution for research and teaching, and the contribution of environmental history to the environmental movement. He concludes with advice to students as they prepare for the future.

I had the pleasure of attending Prof. Bill Cronon's classes at Madison. A great professor, lecturer, storyteller and inspiration of history.

Came here after hearing about “The Trouble With Wilderness” on the podcast Outside / In. Instantly obsessed and can’t wait to read that essay, his books (or blogs, or tweets, or whatever length form is out there)

Read Changes in the Land. You can open anywhere in it and learn so much! The bibliography is 29 pages. Then you got your reading cut out for you.

Amazing, stuff about Lincoln is poignant. In some sense all documents are just stories……about stories

Lincoln is a fraud. The South did not need to be destroyed nor did 500,000 men. Lots more to that story.
