Another great video as usual ! Hey quick story for all of you guitar players out there. So ever since I was old enough to put the needle of a record player arm onto a record. I LOVED music! Then at around age 10 I got my first guitar and have been playing 50 plus years now and I LOVE that more than I can tell you. So about a year ago I broke my left wrist bad and had to have surgery. I am playing again but it looks like my playing will never ever be quite what it was. MY POINT- NEVER take for granted what you have, love it more than you did before you read this and for the love of Pete-be careful because an accident can happen in the blink of an eye!

This is an awesome lesson, Guthrie. I got a lot out of it. Thanks. These licks contain every note at some point including the root, flat 9, 9, flat 3rd, 3rd, fourth, tritone, fifth, flat 13, 6th, 7th, and major 7th. Many of the notes are passing tones but they're there. So cool. I really dig superimposing the minor 5 (B minor) chord over the E chord. This really brings out the 9th of the E chord. Very helpful.

This is all I was asking for when I got raked on a different post. You show us exactly how the lick you play at the beginning emerges from and relates to the way you understand the grips. This way we see how the theory of the shapes yields something improvisational. I never asked for it to be free or always showing us how you get from the shapes to the improv. I merely asked that you try and help us see how your improv is rooted. It’s understanding why the improv is what the improv is. CAGE and triad on, but thanks for doing this thing here. It’s so good and clear and helps to see things new. For what it’s worth I have your lessons and happy to pay.

Guthrie, thank you for this. This is great to watch. Sometimes some of us are stuck in a wall and we’re trying to break out of it and it seems like the pros never really show us intermediate guys how to break past that pentatonic box and start playing some of those neat phrases and it’s nice to see you break them down so we can work on it and then maybe hopefully expand our library as well as be able to replicate some of what you’re doing!

I gotta say the new Truefire course is great, But what makes it I think is you get the old Jamplay video with it. Which gives you good insight into GTs playing. I took it years ago. But the Jamplay is loaded with valuable info. So helps with Truefire course Huge. Brilliant idea.
