As a person who works in a lab with North American pest moths, such as Corn ear worms, fall armyworms, southern armyworms, european corn borers, and soybean loopers, just be careful with how many you release. We cannot legally release any and ours must be frozen at -20 C, but if they are native, releasing one or three isnt going to harm much as long as the relases are fairly spaced out. Dont want to causing a pest infestation in others garden and them resorting to pesticide.

I hope anyone seeing his video doesn't copy the same ideas. Most of the species in petstores are sold purely for feeding animals, so hatching and releasing them is dangerous on an entire ecosystem depending on where you live. Some bugs will even kill trees or important species that biodiversity in the ecosystem depend on to stay alive, so it can litterally wipe out entire ecosytems. Not to mention it seems like it's life was pretty depressing regaurdless of not getting eaten by a lizard, whether she was trying to help or not. Even buying from petstores in general, if you truly care about a species leave them be. The petstore will profit from your purchase and buy more after. Don't buy from a petstore if you don't believe in their black market pets or keeping a species thriving. Humans have ruined entire species derived from the rainforest due to the buying and selling of certain species in petstores, because they are so sought after. Just for the animals to be put in cages and terrariums for most of their lives, many of them dying either on their way to the petstore through shipping or before they have even been purchased because they aren't properly able to care for them all.

Even worse that she’s posting it to a relatively large following of people which entices people to want to do what she is doing. If you want to hatch butterflies, you can buy actual butterfly caterpillars online. These moths are invasive and could bring unbalance to the ecosystem in your area. Please don't go back to the pet store and buy more if you plan to release them. They're also pests. They obviously like eating crops, so that wouldn't be good for local farmers if they get into their yard. People don't buy these blue caterpillars to feed to their dogs or cats. They feed them to their reptiles, like lizards and snakes, or they even feed them to their tarantulas. I don't think a cat or dog would want to eat a caterpillar. They might, but idk if they'd benefit from them...

Butterflies and moths are covered in very fine tiny wing scales , which most people think is powder, and while petting them very gently once in awhile isn't harmful, you have to keep in mind that if too many of their scales are disturbed it can lead to their wing tearing and then an inability to fly.

Not dogs and cats… My son feeds them to his bearded dragon. My mom used to pick them off the tomato plants in the garden and smash them between two rocks to prevent them from eating the plants. They’re very destructive to gardens. Interesting to see them hatch, though, and they make for quite an attractive moth.

Do they not mind the mold?

The innocence of this video is cute! I don't think a few moths is what some of you should be worried about.

Isn’t petting their wings bad for them?
@Mila_Brearey4 ай бұрын
Yes, you should NEVER touch the wings, even brush up against one. Also, I'm pretty sure that they have a proboscis (tube) and they drink nectar and other fluid for survival.

One time at my mom’s friend garden I found a green caterpillar and begged my mom to take it home, a matter of days and it turned into a chrysalis, turned out to be an amazing butterfly. I freed it almost immediately after we saw it hatched, flew away with no problems. I know butterflies don’t live that long but I hope it had an amazing life, even if short.

The sad part is I have a leopard gecko. I’m not feeding her hornworms every day just once a while and I’m sad. I can’t turn them into butterflies/moth because my gecko needs something to eat
