I liked the overall theme of redemption with him. He went from being a bloody serial killer with a hair trigger temper to being humbled while becoming a better person while putting away his anger. His arc was true development.

Bro his "eye shadow" is from his being a jinchuriki to shukaku. He could never sleep more than a couple of hours at most leading to permant sunken eyes. I've also debated that this added to his unstable nature for most of his life in tandum to his abuse from the sand village. It's not eye shadow.

Also Gaara; repeatedly tries to kill Naruto and only starts being nice when he realizes that’s what makes Naruto strong. One a side note, Gaara does actually become a better person but his initial kindness after the battle against Naruto was because he thought it would make him stronger. He also became Kazekage cause he thought protecting everyone would make him stronger.

Gaara for me is one the most interesting character from this series that everytime surprises me. It's so joyful to see how Gaara from his early life changed to be a great father and hero. Making Naruto as his hero and showing him love as he grew up with no biological parents and was rejected just like how Gaara was.
