Most people know Sukhumvit road as a Bangkok Road, but it doesn't just exist in Bangkok. Sukhumvit road runs from Bangkok to the Cambodian border in Trat. I wanted to explore the whole of Sukhumvit and to do this I reached out to my friend Chris from Retired Working For You to join me on a Thailand motorbike trip from end to end on Sukhumvit road. Chris and I spent two days driving down Sukhumvit, exploring end to end. Both of us had only been as far south as Pattaya on the eastern seaboard of the Gulf of Thailand, so every kilometer south of Pattaya was breaking new ground for both of us. The open road in Thailand is unlike any other, and something you have to experience for yourself.
We start this journey in the Nana neighborhood of Bangkok at Sukhumvit Soi 1 and end at the Klong Yai border checkpoint in Trat Province.

@@IdeaStudioBKK I have worked in the pipe trades as a refrigeration mechanic and pipefitter for about 30 years. I have made many. I had one running in middle eastern country in a non-permissive environment for about two years. I was using an evacuated tube solar hot water heater with a heat exchanger to boil and a small re-purposed ice cream dipping station as the condenser. You just turned the valve on the hot water tank and it was a hot water heater again. Pretty low key.

Those long bike trips are a blast, me and a friend drove our harleys from a town just south of Boston up to Montreal Canada and then down to Lake George Ny and back , we had a great time in Montreal, while in Lake George we were woken up by the alarm on my friends Harley only to find two guys trying to steal our bikes, some bouncers from a nearby bar that just closed heard the alarm and ran over and helped us hold these clowns until the police showed up, as one of the bouncers had one guy tied up in some kind of wrestling move on the ground my friend said “ I’m going back to the room to get my boots “, I said “ why,… are ya feet cold or something “,.. he said “ No, I’m gonna cave his head in “,.. lol ,… I said “ you do that and you’ll be going in the cruiser right behind him “….. long bike rides can produce some great memories ,.. thanks for making the video !

Hi Dana, Unless the Thais have changed their minds, last time l was there, Sukumvit ended at Laem Ngop, near where the ferries leave for Koh Chang. There's a plaque near the Lighthouse at the base of the pier. You & Chris definitely went to the end of Rte 3 & Cambodia however!
@IdeaStudioBKK
@IdeaStudioBKK 2 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure about the plaque you’re talking about, but Sukhumvit and Rt 3 are the same road for their entirety and end at that border. There are significant locations along the way, perhaps that plaque signified one of those.

Hi again Dana, Was able to get a nephew to check it out. The plaque has been changed since my last visit (19+ years ago) although he couldn't remember when. IMHO calling all of Rte 3 Sukumvit Rd makes much more sense. 👍 Rte 3148 (where you made a hard left at Tesco) runs through Trat & dead ends at the pier. He said the locals still call it Sukumvit Rd & I imagine they will for some time to come. Very sorry for any confusion caused, in hindsight, l should have checked it out before posting.

Dana, you outdid yourself with this. After watching Chris' video earlier today, I knew I had to watch the "documentary" version. Outstanding -- I really enjoyed this. One question, because I don't see in the description, did you fly a drone for the aerial footage? Some of that looked incredible too. Like so many have said, I love the collaboration videos. You and Chris both share such a great passion for Thailand, Thai people and culture -- it's evident in this video and Chris's too. I'm looking forward to the sequel -- the ride down 41/43/42 from Surat Thani to border crossing at Rantau Panjang, Malaysia! #KeepTakingAction

Thanks Jake. appreciate it. I had been planning this for months. And I have lot's more routes planned for the future, I found a lot of interesting rummaging through the map. But I will wait until I upgrade the bike before I jump into any more long haul rides, While I love my scooter and will continue to use it for more local bike trip videos, something slightly larger would make the hauls a bit easier, and likely safer. The drone footage was mostly stock video, or from a friend of mine, some were not drone at all and just me with a gopro and a long stick putting myself in a stupid situation lol. We were supposed to use Chris's drone on the trip, but his nephew Adam lost it to the sea while he was at Kho Pi Pi a few week prior. I never got one because the vast majority of what I shoot is in Bangkok where drones are heavily restricted. But that might change if I am going to keep exploring roads. Let's see.
@GatorJake
@GatorJake 2 жыл бұрын
@@IdeaStudioBKK When you plan more bike trip videos, let's try to promote those ahead of them airing. The videography was very good -- more people should view those. That's too bad about Adam and the drone. If you decide to get one, I hear there is a shop in Pattaya that will do all the licensing and paperwork for you. Might be the same in BKK. Keep the content coming -- I'll keep watching. Cheers!

Hey Steve, I have used LS2 Modular helmets for years, they fit well for me and come with all the safety ratings you would want. They also make a 3XL which fits my pumpkin of a head. The reason I had a helmet to give Paddy was because I got it online and it didn't fit me. A bit part of this for us was doing the route itself, that was the fun. It is strange how different it looks at 25 compared to 24. I would much rather shoot 30fps but Thailand is a 50hz power system so you get a lot of strange flashing on frame whenever there is a light. @@IdeaStudioBKK - yes. This is a great time to focus on infrastructure when there is less traffic. When we last spoke with Prayut and some of his staff, they did mention that even with all of the bad things going on with COVID, that this was an opportunity they wanted to take to focus on infrastructure advancement. They have taken several infrastructure loans to really approach this in earnest. They are also focussing a lot of effort on developing exports of Thai made products and finding ways for Thai citizens to work overseas and bring money back into Thailand. We are doing what we can to help on some of those fronts.
