It feels so strange hearing someone go in depth to this case, when i was younger my mom would always tell me and my sister that no matter how mad we are, and no matter how bad the argument is, do not leave your sister, because there was a brother and sister who separated and the sister was kidnapped, we would walk to school everyday, and first time my sister got mad enough to run ahead of me i cant even explain to you the panic i felt and how fast I ran after her.

Unfortunately, I lost my sister in 2015. We are both adults, but the last face to face conversation was was a very bad arguement. I said some things that I regret daily. I had sent her a text about my youngest niece turning 18 and finding decorations & said I love you in the text, but it doesn't replace our last conversation. I feel sorry for her entire family, friends, & this town but especially feel for her brother.

It was a small town and everyone knew everyone, so her parents felt comfortable letting her walk alone. I've read in a comment above, that was written by someone who lived nearby, that it was normal for the people there, to let children go anywhere alone and not to lock the doors of their houses until this case happened. So please, don't blame the parents for being apparently negligent when they were not.

@@laura-sandy1492 before this video I've watched another one of hers, and kids weren't questioned because of the same reason, and the monster who sexually assaulted them wasn't even charged for what he did, so unfortunately it's not always the case that the kids can be used as witnesses, even the ones which endured the abuse or whatever, which is weird, why would they listen to kids in some cases, but not all of them? Police has a strange logic

I just finished watching the video. Once again thank you SO much, Eleanor for covering this case. As I was around Lindsey’s age when she disappeared and lived in the next town over (my family goes through there all the time for the Drive In) I would like to quickly say how this case affected the community as a whole. Grays Harbor, especially East County where McCleary is, was always “safe.” We of course have all the drugs but there was never a case like this! Before this no one locked their doors and kids walked everywhere by alone. After this everyone was to stay close and people actually locked their doors for once. I can recall many times 10 year old me fighting with my parents about wanting to walk alone to my friend’s house. Every time they’d break down into almost tears saying “we don’t need you ending up like the McCleary.” My dad has lived here his whole almost 55 years of life and nothing scared him more than the Lindsey Baum case. Lindsey’s missing posters were plastered everywhere in East County and stayed there until they found her body. It’s little to say it shook the community. On the I guess brighter side they just finished a memorial garden In Lindsey’s name for the 10 year anniversary of her disappearance. It’s quite beautiful; it has a bench in the shape of a butterfly and a plaque with her name and face on it. On a side note this case is what got me into true crime. And I’ll stop now but thank you again Eleanor for covering her case!

This is what I always think with cases like this, when I was 10 I would never ever EVER imagine walking somewhere on my own. I just didn't even want to, and if I did I was with friends. I will not allow my step sons to walk alone until they are 16 or 17 (as they are twins and stick together thankfully) and when I have my own kids in the future I'm going to be overprotective, in regards to public travel or walking somewhere and online safety etc.

My dad didnt have a car to pick me up from places but he would always walk or take the bus to those locations just to pick me up so i didnt have to walk home alone. He always did that. Parents pleaseeeee dont let ya kids walk home alone if they under the age of 18.

Taken was one of the first big movies (at least in the U.S.) that brought sex trafficking into everyone's mind. It showed a side of it that does happen but is not as common as people think. Unfortunately when people think of sex trafficking, thats what they think it is. Its actually MUCH more common with more "normal" circumstances such as strip clubs, prostitution, girls who are manipulated or use drugs, etc. Its not always like the movies.

Even at 10, I wasn't allowed to leave my yard or eyesight of the door. The idea of a 10 year old walking 15 minutes to their friend's house is insane to me.
