Great Video! On this note I had a couple of what if theories that you should consider: 1. What if Elendil survived the War of the Last Alliance? 2. What if Arnor never fell and never got divided? 3. What if the line of kings in Gondor never ended? 4. What if the Kinstrife of Gondor never happened?
@Tindog42656
@Tindog42656 Жыл бұрын
1. If Elendil had survived I imagine he could be fully capable of destroying the ring himself. It would have put greater strain on his mind and made him weaker but I think he could do it. If he had survived then Arnor and Gondor would have stayed united as sister kingdoms and they would both aid each other in their times of need. 2. If Arnor never went through a succession crisis and did not fight each other then they would have had the full capability to destroy the Witch King and Angmar casting him back to where he came from. This would eventually lead to Arnorians being present in the War of the Ring. 3. If Earnur had never gone into Minas Morgul then the kingdom of Gondor would have been more stable and ready for threats like the Balchoth meaning that Rohan is never formed and Calenhardon along with Angrenost (Isengard) would have stayed with Gondor instead of being given to Saruman letting the kingdom of Gondor only needing to focus on the East. 4. If the Kinstrife had never happened and nothing like it happened after Umbar would have stayed a part of Gondor and eventually be made into a Faithfull colony just like Pelargir or Dol Amroth. Osgilliath would still have all of its splendor and the Osgilliath Stone would still be above the Anduin used by the Kings of Gondor. With more Numenoreans and fewer losses even with the Great plague that could come in later years Gondor could and probably would maintain the watch on Mordor making it impossible for Sauron to return in either Mordor or Nurn allowing Minas Ithil to stay in Gondor's control. This is just what I thought would happen, based off of what I know.

@@istari0 True but if there could be anyone, especially among Men it would be Elendil. Because if Elendil survives and takes the ring the Gladden Fields is likely to happen again just with Elendil instead of Isildur.
@Tindog42656
@Tindog42656 Жыл бұрын
@@istari0 Your right if both Isildur and Elendil had survived I imagine Elendil would take Sauron's ring and have Isildur rule Gondor as the king of Gondor with Anarion's heir and would go north to rule Arnor. If nothing like the Gladden Fields happens then Elendil would rule Arnor for a long time. A few centuries would go by as Elendil outlives Isildur and some of his heirs. Eventually Elendil would become more evil in his reign as more of the middle men are enslaved and the Elven lands would be seized. I could see something like Gondor at its height refusing to bend the knee to Elendil and many rebelling against him as the southern kings try to free themselves from the high-kingship of Elendil. It could go like the Last Alliance with Annuminas falling as Elendil falls with the ring into the lake with the Annuminas stone. The kingdoms would be reunited again as the ring is eventually forgotten.

I often forget that Eldarion via Arwen restore so much blood of Elros to the line of kings via his twin brother Elrond. It is as if he is alllllmost the grandson of the first king of Numenor.

You make a great point, as Elros and Elrond were twins...Eldarion would have an even stronger heritage than many Kings of previous generations, even those of Numenor.

Why did the line of Kings in Gondor pass from male to male originally, when Numenor hadn’t done this? Numenor had several queens.

"There is one I could follow. There is one I could call king." I don't know why the linage of kings and the wise are so fascinating; by all accounts they're just human if long lived. Perhaps it's all that history, all that time put into a single purpose. To rule and guide so that the future can live on. Gives me strength to go on, knowing that all my ancestors survived so that I could continue on and hopefully pass on what I've learned and loved. ❤️

It's interesting to think what might have happened to the kingship of both Arnor and Gondor if Elendil had survived. We don't know what the plan was for succession in both kingdoms. Would the most senior in the line of succession always be King of Arnor and the second most senior be the king of Gondor? It's hard to see Gondor continuing to have two kings. Isildur and Anarion aside, that's a recipe for trouble.

As I thought you meant the descendants of Elendil (as I would have counted certain ancestors as well, but that might be due to being shaped by the Bible's lineage of certain people in both directions). Still a wonderful video :)

Do you think it matters which brother inherited Rhudaur? Did the "weak" brother, the least capable to resist the machinations of Angmar, rule Rhudaur? Or would the Witch King have had his way with Rhudaur even if the greatest-ruling brother had commanded it? Yes, the wars of the north lasted centuries but in Tolkein's lineages, apples do not fall far from their trees.

I'm noticing a lot of names from Tolkien show up in other fantasy novels. Castermere in A Song of Ice and Fire. Elhokar (not the same, but probably a nod to Tolkien) in A Stormlight Archive, and I'm sure there are others. I'm thinking this is intentional nods to Tolkien?
