Most people are familiar with the Morgan Breed, which originated in 1789 as a young colt named "Figure" who became legendary in his time. Because of his prepotency, he was often crossed with other breeds, and the offspring were registered as Morgan horses. Around 1950 the Morgan Registry closed the book to cross breds, but the bloodlines had been diluted with other breeds for about 160 years.
Within the Morgan breed, there is a unique bloodline, identified as a LIPPITT MORGAN which identifies horses who can trace their sire and dam back to the original Justin Morgan horse, without any known outcrosses. There are approximately 1500 purebred Lippitt Morgans in North America.
Lippitt Morgans have exceptional minds, they rationalize rather than react to things, they are superb competitors and sport horses in just about every discipline imaginable. This video highlights several exceptional examples of Lippitt Morgans from around the world, who have captured a National or World Championship title in their respective discipline. Watch and learn about the treasure that is, a Lippitt Morgan.

I ' m the proud owner of a gorgeous Morab gelding (50/50 pure arab/morgan) He turns 23 next month and you'd never know it. With the quality of the straight Egyptian Arabians and Lippitt Morgans in his pedigree he's a gem. He's got so much HEART and I'm so lucky to have him. These 2 breeds make the Morab super versatile for anything!

The Lippett Morgans are just so gorgeous. They are what the breed should be. One of my very favorites, along with Arabians and Friesians.

I love Morgans, plus I love Arabians,….two of my favorite breeds. I rode a half Arab/half Morgan named Tony, he was the best horse I ever rode. Very responsive and willing to please, soft mouth, etc., and well trained…actually he taught me more about riding than any other horse. Tony had a rocking chair lope that was a dream to sit under….even though he wasn’t my horse, I rode him often and preferred him over other horses. He was a riding club horse. We became friends and companions when I was there to be with him. But He died one winter in the mountains (when over 20 below zero degrees), and refusing to go back to the barn with the other horses. He was mistreated and abused, too many unruly and uncaring riders, and didn’t want to live anymore, dying of a broken heart, he actually gave up living, I seen it in his eyes the last time I rode him. He needed someone like me, someone to love him for himself and care about him. Afterwards, I was told that I could have had him for $500. I wish I could have been able to have bought him, because he needed something more than what he was getting and bought for. I was a teenager then and we definitely connected as a rider and horse needed to be. I sure miss him…I will always remember him, I loved him dearly. 😥❤️

You are most welcome, glad you enjoyed it. Morgans, particularly the Lippitt bloodlines, have the most amazing minds, they rationalize rather than react to things. We've owned, bred and competed with them for many years. The Lippitt Morgan is something everyone should take a look at.

Texas A & M has proven the the Morgan breed started with the Canadian Horse! The Sun King Louis the 14th sent his French settlers a first shipment of horses in 1664-5 these horse were carefully bred and subsequent shipments of horses were raised in harsh conditions in virtual isolation for 100 years before the America's found them and started importing these incredible horses! Canadian Horses were the precursor to Morgan's, Saddlebreds, Narragansett Trotters (now extinct), Tennessee Walkers and many more!

I had gone to one of the shows in Vermont bought T.shirts but after spouse passed away someone destroyed mine thinking I was not deserving enough to own the shirts. I do not purchase any more we watched the horses as sister owned a Morgan. Kind of shared the experiences.

Of course Joanie knew what you wanted. If you've got a good connection w/ your horse, you connect on a deeper level than just the five senses. I've experienced this myself...

Lippitt Morgans have the most exceptional minds, and in competition, they understand the objective, you don't have to ask for everything you want, they get their head into the competition. Our stallion Madrona Rubicon aka "Mickey" loved Combined Driving Events- he understood the hazards and what was expected. While approaching a hazard at an extended trot, he would roll into a canter as he knew the object was to get through the hazard in as little time as possible. Once through it, he'd settle back to a trot to get to the next hazard. You cannot wear them out, the longer they go, the stronger they get, but competing with a Lippitt Morgan who gets its head into the game, is an amazing feeling. When "Joanie" approached the stair-step I saw her ears go up, she lowered her head and looked at it, and I knew we connected on what we were going to do, and she executed it perfectly. A Lippitt Morgan becomes your competitive partner, and it's nothing short of exciting to compete with a horse that understands the objective. Ask anyone who competes with a Lippitt Morgan and they will share the same experience.

A sport horse shines in competition, and for that reason is often absurdly large, to impress dressage judges and manage huge jumps. The classic universal horse for private use is a more suitable ideal for Morgan breeders.

What is the deal with tails dragging on thr ground, detracts from their beautiful confirmation,spoils the line and just looks like a copy of saddle bred style and they are so much more then that beautiful strong and elegant they don't need the fairy horse tail. Love the breed , Don,t ruin the image by making them tizzy, keep the tail long but just below the hock adds so much more balance, just my I'm p reunion ❤❤

I think Margurite Henry's book came first. And, as always, the book is much better. I wouldn't think Fresians were behind Figure...he wasn't big enough...
@HorseTVGlobal
@HorseTVGlobal Жыл бұрын
No one knows with certainty the lines and breeds behind Figure, I would tend to agree that Friesian is a longshot for size, endurance and other attributes. I love Friesians but don't believe they contributed much, if anything, to the Morgan breed. The Canadian Breed has been suggested and I would lean more towards the Canadian given its conformation and movement, as well as it's proximity to New England where figure was foaled.

There's a whole range of breeds that share the light-cob conformation, just as modern warmbloods resemble one another regardless of registry.

@@HorseTVGlobal you're aware that the original horse was the canadian horse (le cheval canadien), two genetics studies have confirmed this. this whole justin morgan and "figure" business is pure american mythology. meet figure - kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6LEnWVnntSNfbc

@@blackberrythorns True, but the Canadian is just a little sturdier than the modern Morgan. They were used as working farm horses long after Americans switched to tractors, so the Saddlebred infusions weren't desired.
