welcome back to The Listening Room, the second episode of this uncut, no-talking series where I create ambient sketches and loops in Ableton, inviting you to immerse in the creative process and see where the idea wants to go
whether you're here to relax with sound or gain insight into ambient production, I hope this video provides both a calming experience and valuable inspiration. Like before, feel free to share your questions or thoughts in the comments-I’m happy to engage and explore the process with you, no matter your level of experience. Let’s keep building a positive space for creativity and kindness.
the unexpected positive response to the first episode was incredibly heartwarming, and I’m so grateful it resonated with many of you. I hope this second installment continues to serve that same intention.
Peace,
//amv

This is a cool Concept. I really like how Ableton works as an improvisational instrument.

I'm very glad you enjoy it! I fully agree, we mustn't forget that in the end the software started as a live tool! -if i'm not wrong Ableton didn't integrated a DAW timelane until version 7(?

this is insanely cool i love ambient music but sometimes struggle finding ways to make it other than stretching audio files. what sounds do you feel work best in granulizer? also i sadly do not have slink midi but it looks insanely cool. from my understanding it seems to play random notes in a key at random times which you edit correct? id love to know if theres anything else that does a similar effect cause i love it. great video

Thanks for watching! With the granulizer is surprising how many different sounds will led you to a cool result. It's a total trial / error experimentation, but here are some "guidelines" I find myself doing: -full tracks rather than short samples if you wanna come up with unexpected motives / endless progression when pairing an LFO to the grain position. -tracks with mid-high melodic / harmonious content, since I always tend to pitch down whatever sample i put. Those high melodies will turn into warmer, deep bodies of sound, wit a lot of texture to sculp. -normally tracks without constant drums. Although sometimes depend on the genre and the track could let to some interesting soundscapes. For example I wouldn't try to put a techno track but I had better results with dubstep or downtempo. But in this video (and lately) I'm most of the time using ambient / drone / experimental or folk!! (super cool) any kind of instrumental genre i guess ;) and yeah man, the Slink is a blast of a tool, and super affordable. I use it as a "random" midi generator yes. You basically have two independent waves. One will trigger triggers and the other one pitch. It's an insane combination of modulation that in this case, serves me as a way to find indinte melodic motives in a very accidental playaround! I'll be happy to do in the future some dedicated videos to my favorite davices, like the Slink. Thank for stopping and sharing your questions. This is exactly the point of these videos!

what is that "pop" device?

Pop is a small FM synthesizer made by Fors. -the company is founded by Ess, the creator of the Digitone. Indredible plugins and instruments, one of the most creatives options imo. Check them out at fors.fm/
