There's a video of basketball player Klay Thompson shooting 3-pointers in the dark and I always thought that was a great metaphor for spiritual disciplines-- what you practice in the light, you'll be able to do in the dark.

This is so timely! Yesterday while out with my daughter. She said “mom you were so nice to the clerk on the register “, in fact you are nice to everybody “. I said “do you know what?” “Once my boss called me aside and asked me “is it important for you to try and make peoples day?” Like it was a bad thing! I answered “ yes! “ it is ! She said “WHY?” I said “because I asked Jesus to teach me how to be nice, and how to be his hands and feet”. She’s also a catholic lol. She let me go and I don’t know if anything became of our conversation. I still try to look for opportunities to meet Jesus. This meant so much to me this”little talk”, “these little things “!

My husband & best friend does all of the 'little things', and I see them and appreciate them & him. He's my sweetheart! A 'little' thank you Father for pointing out sometimes things that are overlooked day by day. Mam's too do the 'little' things everyday...and it means so much to be acknowledged. I guess we need to keep ourselves singularly in a moment, but also see each other too from a distance. Even the smile or word from a stranger...they're all little legos in our life. One Direction to Heaven: "Oh it's you they add up to...all these little things." 🙄😊🙏 One thing I've been thinking about lately is how people grow in morality (I learned this years ago). If we can think of an area in which we do act morally, such as with our family, and then see that others we know less well are equally worthy of moral consideration, our moral community thereby grows (cf. Lk 6: 32 & Mt 5: 46). Specifically, I think about people online. Somehow, often people do not see one another as being worthy of respect so long as they are "online" and not in our "real life." So, we can think of those close to us in real life, and how we would like to treat them. Then, consider that others, including those online are our neighbors, and treat them accordingly. God bless, Fr. Mike✝

Thank you Fr Mike!! I have found little things lead you the Sacred Heart of Jesus ❤️ especially when someone does something little for us. It is humbling when someone shows you Jesus’ Mercy through forgiveness or a kind act. We immediately feel Jesus and Papa present and watching over us through the Holy Spirit,. These little acts of God’s love (through The Trinity) help us to want to pass this love onto someone else… passing little things on day by day snowballs into a big thing. It units up to God and units us as God’s children - now that is so beautiful and humbling. O how wonderful is our Beloved God. Amen!! 😊❤️

It's amazing how much those little things can hurt. I do not go to either one of my sisters houses anymore because of 2 "little things". I'm talking about Holdays, Birthdays, etc... I'm sure when they said those "little things" they knew I would hear. I can forgive them, but not forget. I'm really not welcome at their homes. Now Thanksgiving, Christmas and any time I am invited over, I say no. So I wind up alone. I would rather be alone than to put up a pretense of acting like everything is okay. I will still get them both gifts, that are something that I see that I know they will like. The last time I went to my Sister's house for Christmas, she took my gift, me and her daughter into the back room to open it. I had bought her a jewelry box that was very beautiful and she said she loved it. Something's like that hurt deeply. So I still buy them gifts and have it delivered to their homes. I don't even know why I am writing this.

Agree. The little things add up and are also self propagating. There’s stories that when police in a city crack down on the the petty crimes then people are more afraid to go for the big ones so crime drops. I used to work with some pretty awful people; dishonest, petty, loved to make up false stories to hurt others. I always let the little things go to not appear too rigid. I was trying to choose my battles wisely. I found out the hard way that letting the little things go only emboldens bad people to act worse. So I began questioning every lie they told; every dishonest way they tried to hurt someone. I didn’t get mad. I just asked questions. They immediately hated me because they couldn’t defend themselves. They knew I was right. But this significantly decreased their bad behavior. You gotta always trust God and do what’s right - come what may. Bad people hating you because you cramp their style is a good indication your doing the right thing and pleasing God. I wish they didn’t get mad at me for pointing out the bad things they do. They should just change or get mad at themselves, not the messenger.

There's a distinction you may have forgotten to make, in the walk with Christ, the little things have a completely different set of concerns. In the terms set forth by human relationships which entail positive regard, respect for other, niceties, thoughtfulness, supporting others' emotional needs, encouraging being taken for granted, and/or creating dependency the little things matter when we want to feel like we're a good human being, and/or when we want to do all things as good human beings, and/or when we want to be considered thoughtful, and/or when we want to set a good example, and/or when we want...yep, when WE WANT to accomplish something. In the walk with God, we sometimes have to leave a scrap of paper on the ground because God has a reason for it being there. We sometimes have to walk passed the person who needs change and just nod an acknowledgement of their suffering with a silent prayer. We sometimes have to not do a specified little thing because we obey and trust that when God says He has a purpose for some undone thing that He means it and has reason for it. Being faithful in little things to be trusted with faithfulness in big things depends on if you're listening to yourself or God and who it is you're trying to demonstrate what to. Ask Him for direction in the little things. Anyways, thank you for letting us in on the eyeroll and sigh thing, I had no idea it affected men in such a way. I don't eyeroll cause I think that's rude as a general rule but I have often sighed cause I'm seriously irritated by the initial interruption. Oops. Sorry, Fellas.

Hello father, I have a question. Why is it that sometimes one feels so disconnected from God? Concomitantly, a feeling of being a feckless person stuck in the head. Moreover, when the person prays, it is like nothing is happening. why does that occur. Also I have to say, it is the worst experience ever. You can feel like no one is at your back. I want to know why does this happen. Thanks in advance

Fr. Mike, I'm returning to the church after 25 years away (I'm 35 for context haha). To get a feel for my local (Novus) Parish I checked out a recent Sunday Mass video but everything from the homily, to the "Donation Card" discussion by a lay person made me pull a face without meaning too. This particular pastor is in charge of 5 local Catholic communities all within 10-20 miles. Am I out of line for wanting to drive an hour and forty five minutes to an FSSP Mass? Or should I just "Grin and bear it" so to speak since the whole point of Mass is giving to God what he deserves from, at the very least, myself.
@wms723 жыл бұрын
No, I live right across the street from a Novus Ordo church,but I drive to another city for FSSP holy Mass because it's more worshipful and exorcist Fr Ripperger says the devil hates Latin because it is a sacred language from having been nailed to the holy Cross of Christ. Latin prayers are more powerful against the demons.
