Congratulations on one year! So much of what you said in your intro rings true and hits home, in that I was never one for ‘big money’ purchases growing up, and that frugal nature stayed with me into adulthood. So over the years, in the various times where I would find myself with the means to build on what became a slowly-evolving comic book collection, it was always through perusing bargain bins, or finding random troves at markets... ever trying to add to what was a very personal collection. That intimate and very personal mentality that I see in your videos, alongside the ‘hunting in unusual places’ vibe that I fully relate to, is what drew me to become a subscriber fairly recently, having once again picked up the collector’s mantle (after something of a break from doing so), and looking for like minds on KZbin. And, as much as my tastes are wide and varied, I’ll always be a Marvel kid at heart - and specifically an X-Men one 😅 So there’s no question as to which prize I’d go for. Like a lot of people, I read and collected comics as a kid in the 90s, but eventually drifted away from the hobby as I got older and fatigue set in from all the shenanigans in the industry at the end of the decade. I really only bought TPBs here and there for the next 2 decades to keep up on certain stories. Well, I recently dragged out my old short boxes and fell back in love with my collection. Hey Mike, Love the channel! Congrats on 1 year. I've been watching from the start. My wife and I have a blended family with 4 boys ages 10, 11, 12 and 19. Like you, I have a small disposable income to spend on comic books. Typically my cash goes towards registering the kids for sports, paying for hotels/dinners, or celebrating one of the many birthdays we have in our household. Moreover, my time is usually spent at work, coaching at the hockey rink or on the soccer field, helping with homework, etc. So I guess what I'm trying to say is.. I find your channel very relatable. It's refreshing and keeps me from getting discouraged that I can't always go out and get key grail books, even at a low grade. Brandon and Jeff are super cool. Surely friends for a lifetime. So, I've been wanting to write this for a while and some of your comments here give me the perfect excuse. Mike, what you do "right" is that you are sincere. The natural joy that you get from this hobby just SHINES from you during each video and that's what engaged me and my son. We only just started watching a couple of months ago (with the video where you talk about being so honest with the guy selling comics at a garage sale), but your channel has quickly become one of the few that we look forward to the most. We talk all the time about how much your enthusiasm shines through. You don't care so much about value (like me), and (much like me) don't care too much for slabs, you just collect what you like. And that infuses a love for the hobby and the hunt that exudes from the screen. I don't watch, much less subscribe to, many other comics channels regularly because they often focus too much on the investment aspect of the hobby and that's of little interest to me. I only just started paying attention to Alex's channel mainly because, even though he spends a LOT more money than I could, his style emulates yours enough that I can enjoy his channel to. I also found out that he's actually in the same area of Missouri that I am, so I can easily hit some of the shops that he mentions. Anyway, I mainly want to thank you for giving my son and I something that we can look forward to together. Congratulations on your success with this little channel. Really, you deserve it.

Mike, I wanted to comment but not because of the giveaway. Instead, I wanted to thank you, good sir. Recently, I watched your video discussing the Top 5 Most PERSONAL comics in your collection. As a lifelong collector, I thought it would be fun to have the same discussion with my older cousin, who initially got me into superheroes/comics. A massive realization hit me during that discussion--almost like being struck by a bolt of lightning. Super Powers #1 (1986) was the very first comic I ever remember buying off the rack when I was five years old (ironically, I'm not a DC guy, either). I was able to purchase that comic, because my grandfather handed me a dollar and allowed me to run into the local store, pick out a book and buy it. Why is this a big deal? I always think of that book as the first official purchase to the start of my collection. Yet I never previously made the connection regarding one specific reason why comic books mean SO much to me. My grandfather passed away two weeks later. As far as I remember, it's the last thing he ever got me. I was dumbstruck upon making the realization. To this day, I'm still an avid collector and comics have long defined part of my life. My oldest son and I now collect together. (For him, I'll throw in a hashtag since he's a Spidey fan.) Otherwise, I wanted to sincerely THANK YOU, because your video sparked something that had long been lost and meant the world to me upon experiencing this epiphany. #7000

Hey Mike, congrats on your anniversary! Been watching from the very start and can't believe it's been a year already. It's been great to watch your channel, collection and following grow over the last 12 months, but the one thing that's remained constant and kept me looking forward to each new video is your brilliant attitude and outlook on comics (and life!). You've got such an infectious and affirming and upbeat approach that stands out on here (and pretty great taste too!) Love that you've (mostly) reduced the financial aspect of the hobby, and keep it more about love, and fun and nostalgia.
