Heard this song while in line at the grocery store, liked it at first during the verse, then absolutely loved it once it got to the chorus. This song is so fucking sad. My father and I went fly fishing up in the Smokey Mountains a few years before we lost him. We were all alone in the woods, but around the fire that night, we ate the day's catch in the awkward silence. My father and I had very little in common. He was a WWII vet, and I escaped getting drafted into the Vietnam war by the skin of my teeth, choosing afterward to become a songwriter. I still go and visit him at the National Cemetery, but to this day, am unable to cry at my loss. This tune really hits me hard.

I work at Johnston and Murphy and this song plays constantly on our radio and its SO ANNOYING PLSSSSS IDC THAT U DID STUPID STUFF AS A KID AND SANG SOME SONG AT THE TOP OF UR LUNGS I DONT CAAAAREEEE if i hear this song again imma finna throw a shoebox at the radio I understand that the song is supposed to be relatable on a personal level but i can promise u there are other songs that do that way better. U could also like. Oh idk. Be creative and make a cool narrative instead of "blah blah blah we didnt know better waaawawaaa". My favorite songs create amazing narratives about unique fantastical events, for example Touch Tone Telephone, the entirety of Hawaii Part ii, etc. So maybe im biased.
