My mom used to work at a bra packing facility in Ventura Ca. She told me the same bras that were being sent to Walmart were sent to Macy's. One time Macy requested a large order and the facility didn't have anymore so they removed the tags from bras that were going to Walmart and replaced them with Macy tags with a higher price tag. This is a fact with electronics, clothing and any other items. Most are made by the same company with different tags and labels that affect the price regardless of quality.

One thing about me as a Black man, I don't care what other people spend their money on. It's not my concern. It's their money, it's their decision. It's not my place to worry about who's driving what kind of car living in an apt, or who's wearing designer this or that while living with their mom. I don't care. Life is too short for me to sit around worrying about that stuff. As long as it's not my hard-earned money, I don't feel any type of way about what other people spend their money on. One thing about life is that life is a lesson. You live and you will most definitely learn from your mistakes. Especially when it comes to finances. How you get your money and spend your money is none of my business. Peace.

Like it’s 2024 going into 2025 and we still striving to be the first black to this and that when it’s come to their expectations not realizing that we are already doing everything and we don’t need to be considered the first of nothing when we can do it all in our own community amongst our own people and receive the same accolades and rewards

READ: The Millionaire Next Door and The Millionaire Mind. Here's a summary of the book: Seven common denominators among those who successfully built wealth: 1) They live well below their means. 2) They allocate their time, energy, and money efficiently, in ways conducive to building wealth. 3) They believe that financial independence is more important than displaying high social status. 4) Their parents did not provide economic outpatient care. 5) Their adult children are economically self-sufficient. 6) They are proficient in targeting market opportunities. 7) They chose the right occupation.

This is true. My friend worked in a factory in Mexico. He said that they put different tags on the same jeans. depending on the buyers order. I thought he was lying until I was the stockroom supervisor at the Gap and I opened a shipment of jeans that had both Gap and JCPenny tags. $60 price point difference!!!

A cwry important conversation that needs to be had on a larger scale. But i think the issue that's overlooked is "integration" was detrimental to Black people. Once we were allowed in those once "forbidden" places we stopped circulating our money in our communities. We thought we were missing out. But within our own neighborhoods we had amazing craftsman , seamstress, dress makers, builders , grocers and the list can go on and on. Our neighborhoods turned into abandoned ghettos and here we are! Sad.

When my family and me came to this country when I was young. All I knew being in Brooklyn and spending summers in Miami was to look good and be successful it was based on what you wore and drove. In my teens saw many of us Latinos and Blacks in Brooklyn always flashing around with our name brand things. Especially on my Cuban (mom)side but also was told make sure you buy a home and having nice things make you important. My dad side(Panamanian) always felt what you wore and drove doesn't define you. When I went into the military (Army) and moved in Army Spec Ops I was taught about different type of investment for long-term returns and for my future family and I was in my early 20's. When I brought that information back to friends in Brooklyn some reject that knowledge. I retired from the military but now working as a federal gov. employee and I am in my early 40's and thankful that I understood that having luxurious things doesn't define you because. This world is designed to keep people in debt based on pushing the idea that what you buy make you someone of importance to others.

I’m very proud to say as a black male I do not follow this trend, I can care less about name brand clothing no Jordans, Nike, etc to me all that stuff is overhyped, overpriced, and some of those Jordan’s are ugly. I save thousands of dollars a year because I only shop for clothes twice a year and when I do I always buy the off brand stuff, if it is name brand it’s cheap like adidas, vans, polo, etc. What people don’t understand is you don’t need to spend a fortune to look “nice” I get compliments day by day from people “Wow love your outfit!” Yet the entire outfit was well under $100 people can’t even tell the difference so what the girl said is right you’re paying for the label/logo/brand whatever you want to call it.

Im only 45 so let me start by saying that growing up in the 80s, the corner stores were run by Arabs mostly named Sam😅 and they were cool hard working people who would have their children at the cash register ringing us up at 8-10 years old. Now that im older, i often wonder what kind of agreement did the US have with these other countries to allow middle easterns to come in to the country in specifically blk neighborhoods. And i wonder where was the cbc, naacp, al Sharpton and jesse Jackson during these times. Where were they? And where were blk foke over the years as the Chinese came in and did the same thing, ironically in blk neighborhoods. Ask yourself why would a blk person regardless of political party advocate for "other" to come to their home on account in spite of proclaiming to have BUILT this home but because the yt man stole it, you can't tell "other" to stay out. Hopefully you get where im going with this. If my comment can be summed up it would be THIS, Blk pepo were sold to the highest bidder a long time ago and watched it happen but because a certain party can get a certain group of people to be in their feelings and be distracted by the carrot "they" replaced you. Being bad with money is actually the least of your worries. As I drive through the inner city from the suburbs i see "other" running the gas station to the mini grocery, to the corner store, liquor store etc. And "they've" been buying up entire neighborhoods. And here we are taking about Debbie Allen not being recognized in a department store 😅

Not to mention the ones that bought new attire(hats, suits, shoes, purses, ties, jackets, scarves, hair in a new do, nails done, probably new makeup too) just for holidays and church anniversaries. For what purpose though? I have had the same nice dresses and heels for years. They still look nice and new and nobody will know the difference if i go somewhere with one of my old dresses on.

I remember when I first saw a black person with a “LV” logo tatted on their flesh, then I saw another with “GUCCI”, “CC” etc., mind was rocked. I knew then that we have a problem. When it comes to brand names. Let’s keep things in the proper perspective. I don’t see anything wrong with luxury name brands & ppl spend their money on what they see fit. This is what put things in perspective for me: I’ve always wanted a Louis Vuitton bag. I’ve had the money to treat myself to one many times but I’ve never been able to take the plunge on a mental level. This year, my husband told me he’d buy me my dream bag, a bag I’ve been eyeing for YEARS. I then looked up how much it costs them to manufacture the bag and found out that while it would cost me $1800 plus tax to purchase the bag, it costs Louis Vuitton $150-$180 to manufacture it. I said “OH HECK NO!” It’s not just Louis, it’s all of the designers. Jordan profit margin per pair is ridiculous as well. You’re paying for the name, do you wanna pay for some strangers name who would treat you like a diseased rodent if you walked up to speak to them? I don’t. I settled on a very lovely Michael Kors bag I got on sale for less than $80 and bought a new MacBook(also on sale) for less than I would’ve spent on that one stupid high end bag, . It’s still beautiful, still timeless, still great quality. To heck with those labels. Imagine being so shallow that you tie someone’s worth to their ability to make frivolous purchases. Keep them lifted up in prayer.
