I've been a lifelong single digit handicapper. For the last few years have been playing TM irons. First the 09 burners, then the PSIs, and finally the P790 irons. My index was steadily rising up to over 10 and I was contemplating giving up the game, primarily cause I couldn't hit irons with a crap anymore. My club pro gave me a set of these to demo. By the 10th hole I called the pro shop and told him to order me a set. My index is back down into the 5's. Golf is fun again. These things are scary.

Great video Al. I'm usually not a big loft guy, a number one the bottom is a reference for you for what club for which distance. However, every once in awhile the "that's not a X iron that's a Z iron!" Thought pops into my head, that was happening at the end and your "who cares?!" put it in perspective again. The fact is even though these are strong lofted, they have the flight and they are stopping.
@timbrown81704 жыл бұрын
I don’t think Titleist is being deceptive as they are disclosing the lofts. I agree that the number on the club is not comparable but these clubs are serving a different market and golfer. I watched a fitting for this iron for a senior golfer and it made a huge difference in distance and dispersion. Yeah, it’s not for everyone but no need to dismiss it. BTW, I think Al could hit the 5 iron close to 300 if fitted properly!

I play Titleist 695 MB irons. My 6 iron is 32 degrees. In fact the 3 iron is only one degree stronger than the 6 iron in T400. Nowadays they might as well just stamp the loft degree on the iron instead of assigning an iron number like with wedges.

Rickie Fowler had 2 of these 'types' of irons in his bag during the skins game this weekend. 3 rusty Cobra wedges, Copper PW - 5 iron blades, and then another 6 & 5 in these types of monsters as his 4 & 3 iron type lofted clubs - so even the greatest golfers in the world are doing it - nevermind that Rory and DJ are both playing the Sim Hybrid this year

Would be interesting to see a comparison do a similar and "traditional" lofted iron to see what the differences in ball flights are. Eg: why would you use a traditional lofted 3 iron vs this 6 iron.

Mark Crossfield recently did that test, strong lofted game improvement vs blade, same loft, same shaft length etc. Got 2 degrees more launch with the Game Improvement vs the blade, which is a club difference.

The PW is 38*. That's crazy. If you want to cover your gaps properly you may need to carry 5 wedges in total.(PW, 44/45*, 50-52*, 54-56*, 60*) I guess it could be feasible if you hit the 5 iron long and good enough that you can cover the gap between your 3W and 5I with just one club. Driver, 3W, 5w/4H, 5-9I, 5 wedges and a putter puts you at 14 clubs. So I guess it's feasible but you could be sacrificing alot of potential gapping problems to chase the extra distance. Could be worth it for the right player that really needs help with distance but I think unfortunately many of the people that buy these aren't necessarily that "right player" but instead people that just want to stroke their egos and "out iron" their friends when in reality they would've been better served with weaker lofts.

Gonna have to start carrying 5-6 wedges to fill in the gaps as these irons keep getting stronger! First gap wedge will start around 40*, but people will be able to say they hit their gap 140...and isn’t that what it’s all about!
@joshlynch56764 жыл бұрын
People have the ego sickness. Can't be hitting their 7 iron 150-160 anymore, it has to be 185 minimum to brag to their friends even though they swing their 7 iron 78 mph and can't hit their driver more than 220 carry. They'll pull out that 5 iron every time off the tee and talk about how they smash it 235.
@brianh88014 жыл бұрын
Josh Lynch I still play an old set of Titliest 735CM’s with more traditional lofts. I’ve lost some distance over the years, but still hit them pretty well and score ok with them. Don’t see a need to change and don’t want or need to be able to say I hit my 7 iron 185. I’d just be lying to myself if I was hitting it further than 20 years ago. Take Care
@joshlynch56764 жыл бұрын
@@brianh8801 Definitely. If you need more distance then club up! I've played Wilson FG Tour V4's for a while and I would take them 10/10 times over a massive, strong lofted cavity that hits it 20 yards further a club. Glad to see that people still value playing normally lofted clubs. Take care as well.
@brianh88014 жыл бұрын
Josh Lynch I start clubbing up automatically around the 9th hole, and it’s helped me hit more consistently to the yardages I’m targeting. It was a pro tip I picked up on the Golf Channel in regard to one of the most common mistakes amateurs make, which was us not taking enough club as the round progresses. So I’ll go up 1-2 clubs depending on how late I am in the round, and overall fatigue. By doing so, my worst mistakes are usually close to pin high just off the green, versus 30 yards short and looking at my club like it’s at fault...like I see so many do! Ha!
